CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - More than a dozen people were forced out their homes late Tuesday night after a driver crashed her car into a fire hydrant at an apartment complex in Chula Vista, causing water to be sent nearly 30 feet into the air.At around 11:45 p.m., Chula Vista police responded to reports of a geyser spewing water into the air on 3rd Avenue.The geyser, from a broken fire hydrant, flooded a nearby apartment complex, forcing the evacuation of 16 people from six units, four of which were heavily flooded.A black car that struck the hydrant tried to leave just after the wreck, but the car's female driver eventually came back to speak with officers. Police questioned the young driver, but she was released.City crews spent a few hours helping clear the water from the apartments. 807

(KGTV) - A Chula Vista high school student was arrested on suspicion of posting a threatening message on social media.Sweetwater Union High School District said they notified police Wednesday that a threat against Olympian High School was posted on social media. A student notified the administrators after school of the social media posting, according to Chula Vista Police.The threat was thought to be credible at the time, police said, and alluded to a student "becoming a school shooter."Chula Vista Police officers identified the poster as a 16-year-old 10th-grade student and took her into custody at her home Wednesday night. Police said the girl admitted to making the social media post "as a joke and thought it would be funny."Officers searched the students home but did not find any weapons. According to the district, officers do not believe any actual incident would have occurred.The student was arrested and taken to Juvenile Hall for making the threat.The Olympian High threat is the latest in a series of threats made against San Diego County schools in the weeks since the tragic high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14.RELATED STORIES: 1206

CINCINNATI -- Kroger Co. has joined Dick's Sporting Goods and Walmart in tightening its policy on gun sales after a school shooting killed 17 in Parkland, Florida. The Wall Street Journal reports the Cincinnati-based grocery chain will stop selling guns to anybody under 21 at 43 Fred Meyer locations, mostly located in western states."Recent events demonstrate the need for additional action on the part of responsible gun retailers," the company wrote in a statement to CNBC. (KGTV) - Southwestern College in Chula Vista was briefly put on lockdown Tuesday after a student reported hearing shots fired at the campus library.The student contacted officers about hearing two gunshots on the third floor of the library just before 1 p.m. at the college on 900 Otay Lakes Rd.Chula Vista Police responded to campus and evacuated the building, according to Southwestern officials.
