SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The elderly victim of a brutal home invasion in Clairemont last week is relieved two of the three suspects are in custody. John Slobig, 59 and Terry Jones, 53 are due in court Wednesday afternoon in connection with last Wednesday's home invasion in the 4600 block of Firestone Street.Eighty-seven-year-old Paul Schmidt suffered injuries to his head, arms, and wrist during the attack. "I was very grateful for the work that the police did, " said Schmidt. Schmidt said he's lived in the home for fifty-three years and never felt unsafe. "I know that drugs have been so dominant in our society lately that it's a whole different world that we're living in. Things we used to take for granted, you can't anymore," said Schmidt. Schmidt was installing a ceiling fan when he says three men burst through his front door."All of a sudden, these three guys come in and said this is a robbery and he grabbed scissors and walked up to me and said don't mess with us. I didn't want to die that day, and there was three. I'm one guy, I'm 87, I'm not as tough as I used to be," said Schmidt. He tried to pull one of the intruders by his beard, that's when Schmidt says one of the robbers hit him over the head with a ceiling fan blade."The one guy was higher than a kite; the one they have in custody, he was really a terrible person." Police say the trio ransacked the home and took off in the victim's truck, which was recovered. The suspects have lengthy criminal records. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The first round of artists for San Diego’s Wonderfront music festival, supported by the star power of Tony Hawk, Trevor Hoffman, and Rob Machado, was announced Monday. The event will take place on seven stages in parks and on piers along the Port of San Diego, from South Embarcadero up to Broadway Pier. Wonderfront is scheduled for Nov. 22-24, 2019, the weekend before Thanksgiving. Wonderfront organizers plan to mix well-known stars with local favorites and emerging artists. “Our goal with this lineup was to have it stacked from start to finish each day with great artists. It’s hard to really call any certain bands our so-called headliners as so many lines of bands on this festival are all headliners in their own right,” said Wonderfront co-founder Paul Thornton. The first round of artists, announced Monday, include Miguel, Slightly Stoopid, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, MGMT, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Nicky Jam, Don Omar, Vince Staples, Tyga, Los Angeles Azules, Tucanes de Tijuana, Walk the Moon, Phantogram, X Ambassadors, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Lil Dicky, Big Gigantic, and Pennywise. A second round of artists will be named later in the summer, organizers said. North County resident Tony Hawk will have a presence at the festival with the Huckjam stage for music and a skateboarding ramp, where he and other pro skaters will perform tricks. “I’m excited to bring back the Huckjam format (choreographed and freestyle skating with live music) after 10 years of hiatus, and there is no better place for it than my hometown. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sunday, San Diego Police will be enforcing scooter, bike and pedestrian safety at several beaches. Throughout the day, officers will be conducting the operation in unspecified areas of Pacific and Mission beaches between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.During the enforcement period, officers will be looking for traffic violations made by drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.RELATED: CA scraps helmet mandate for motorized scootersThe department says it will be paying special attention to drivers speeding, making illegal turns, failing to stop for signs and lights and failing to yield to pedestrians.Officers will also be watching when pedestrians cross streets illegally or fail to yield to drivers with the right of way.RELATED: Increase in child dockless scooter injuriesAccording to police, the number of pedestrian deaths is rising as more people use non-motorized transportation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of a man killed in 2013 is pleading with the community for new leads as the case has now been left unsolved for more than half a decade.Ralph Green was killed on October 20, 2013.  He was murdered on Jewell Street in the Mountain View neighborhood, on the porch of his daughter’s home while at her 32nd birthday party.His daughter, Chanel Green, says the shooting happened suddenly, catching everyone by surprise.“My mother was on her way outside, so it was a blessing I didn't lose both my parents that day,” Chanel said. “I remember (my mother) shrieking, ‘oh my god, Ralph’s been shot.’ And I ran to the door to see my dad walk holding his neck.”Green says he was shot three times, once through this throat.“My brother catches him, and I moved my brother out of the way, and I laid (my father) down on the ground, and I start screaming, “oh my god, my dad’s been shot, call the police,’” she said. “My dad bled out on the floor, and all I could hope was that he heard me when I told him I loved him.” Channel’s aunt, Jennetta Pierce, was also shot.  Pierce is Ralph’s cousin-in-law.Pierce says she was inside the house, by the window, when the bullets started flying. One of them hit her on the lower back.“I got hit, but I didn’t let anyone know I got hit because my kids were there, and I just told them to get up under the table,” Pierce recalled.  After that, emergency crews came inside the house and took her to the hospital, where she spent two weeks.  She says she spent the next five years focused on moving forward.Police have said the shooting was random.  Chanel says there have been tips, and potentially leads given to the police but none have panned out.  But she’s convinced that there are people out there that know something, that can give her and her family the closure they need.“For anybody who knows somebody that knows something to come forward, now is the time, to tell the truth,” Chanel said. Anyone with information can contact San Diego Police or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 2087
