SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University released its plan Monday relating to holiday travel during the pandemic. It comes as students are getting ready to travel home for the holidays in a few weeks.The policies apply to students living on campus and those with in-person classes.Roughly 2,100 students live on-campus, and about 2,200 students are enrolled in an in-person class or participating in on-campus research, according to SDSU. There is a crossover between the groups.Students living on campus can choose to stay on campus over Thanksgiving. Meal plans and other student services will be available during the break.Students who choose to go home and see family have an option. The plan says they “may choose to remain at home for the rest of the fall semester and complete the last two weeks of the term remotely.”Those that travel and return to on-campus housing will be tested for COVID-19 immediately upon returning and then tested again, five to seven days later.Those taking in-person classes will be asked to test weekly upon returning; they are currently required to test every 14-days. Those taking in-person classes are being encouraged to avoid holiday travel.The notice to students goes on to say:"Each of us must continue to be very thoughtful and careful, even if the effects of COVID-19 seem invisible or have not touched some of us personally. Several religious and spiritual observations are before us in the months ahead, and it is disappointing that we will not be able to celebrate in person many of our traditions with our loved ones in ways we have in the past. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is suspending spring 2020 programs to Italy amid the spread of the novel coronavirus. The university said in an update to students Monday that it was calling all students studying abroad in Italy back to the United States. The decision was made due to the elevated level three travel advisories the CDC and State Department issued for the country. RELATED: UC San Diego, SDSU cancel South Korea study abroad programs due to coronavirus“With the exception of study abroad programs in China, South Korea and Italy, SDSU remains open and classes will continue as usual,” the university said. At the moment, the university doesn’t have any plans to cancel classes. University officials say they won’t make such plans unless directed by the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. In late February, both San Diego State University and UC San Diego canceled study abroad programs in South Korea amid the spread of coronavirus. 987

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some local Uber customers got a major case of sticker shock when they see just how much they were being charged for their rides.On Wednesday afternoon, Kelley Rowe and two others were trying to get from the airport to the convention center to get her Comic-Con badges. Rowe, who flew in from Wisconsin, clicked and approved an Uber ride for .08. Not long after, she got an alarming message. "I got a text from my credit card company asking if it was fraud. Uber tried to charge ,308 to my credit car," said Rowe.The pending charge on her credit card was 100 times the actual cost. "It was huge sticker shock. I'm sure I swore immediately," said Rowe.Her bank put a hold on the charge and the ride never happened. Her credit card was now suspended during a week she needed to use it. "I'm very lucky I had credit card attached and not a debit card," said Rowe. Others may not have been so lucky. Some customers tweeted the ride drained their accounts. According to the Washington Post, an unknown amount of riders in San Diego and Washington D.C. experienced what Uber calls a glitch from a 'known' issue.Uber called it a system error in a message sent to Rowe. The company saying the overcharges will be reversed, but Rowe says needs to be more forthcoming and apologize. "They should be explicit about what the problem was, the scope and what they're doing to prevent it in the future. An apology would demonstrate some form of accountability and remorse," said Rowe. 10news reached out to Uber to find out if the problem has been corrected for good, but have not gotten a response. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld's Tidal Twister roller coaster was open for roughly two weeks before an "operational issue" forced the ride to close.Friday, the park reopened the attraction to the public after repairs and has "passed inspection by the required agency," according to the park.In a statement to 10News, SeaWorld confirmed the ride passed inspection, adding, "The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority, and we are pleased to have resolved the issue in a short period of time."RELATED: SeaWorld unveils Tidal Twister thrill ride at San Diego parkThe ride had been shut down on June 1 over the mechanical issue, according to Cal/OSHA. Tidal Twister features duel track cars traveling at 30 mph around an infinite loop. The ride also features a research support aquarium that highlights sustainable aquaculture and coral reef protection.The ride comes on the heels of the wildly successful Electric Eel , which opened in May 2018. SeaWorld's next attraction is the Mako dive coaster, slated for a 2020 opening. 1045
