(KGTV) - San Diego Police and Crime Stoppers requested the public’s help Thursday to find a man suspected of robbing an adult store in the Midway area. The man walked into the Adult Depot about 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 and pulled out a handgun, police said. He pointed the gun at the clerk’s head and demanded cash, then took money from the register. Police said the man fired one shot at the computer monitor above the cash register before running away. Investigators said the man was last seen walking north on Pacific Highway. The man is described as Hispanic and 5’4” to 5’6” tall. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, black bandana, black gloves, gray pants, and black and white tennis shoes. “Caught on camera” moments are fun to watch.  They can also be important evidence when they show people breaking the law.Radius Security in Vancouver, Canada, has developed new technology to help police catch suspected criminals in the act."Every single night we are getting one or two apprehensions on one of our sites across the country," said Joel Luyt, a site security specialist with Radius Security.“We have 15 computers inside our unit,” said Luyt.  Radius Security’s cameras use those computers to scan for humans.  The technology disregards other things that might move, like tree branches, animals and rain, that would normally set off a false alarm."So they're looking for oscillating arms. It seems that you know, having a full-time manned security would actually be better but it isn't because we're finding that we get guards that end up falling asleep on the job site. We actually had one job where the manned security was in cahoots with the people who were stealing the stuff off the job site," said Godler.A study said false alarms cost the U.S. nearly billion dollars.  94 percent of alarms turned out to be false, tying up valuable police time when there is no burglar.Radius says it helps police capture the bad guy, like one man who hid in a porta potty, about 60 percent of the time. This technology also lets the security company route a live feed from the security camera to law enforcement's cars."They can punch in a four-digit code into their vehicle while they're driving to the site and they can see live what our monitoring station is seeing so they'll know where the criminal is on the site and they'll see what he is doing live on video and get there in an even faster time.,” said Luyt.Right now, this technology runs upwards of ,000 a year, which is too expensive for many.  But, Luyt expects that eventually, the computer system will get smaller and be more cost-effective to keep your home safe.The company plans to expand this year to the United States, both in San Francisco and Chicago. 2639

A 13-year-old middle school student from Elkhorn, Nebraska was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of terroristic threats. According to a release, the student made non-specific threats on a national social media gaming website on Wednesday. After he was questioned Wednesday, he made similar non-specific threats again on Thursday on a different social media platform. The student was booked in the Douglas County Youth Center. Because of his age, his name was not released. Elkhorn Public Schools released a statement: "On Wednesday, law enforcement investigated an Elkhorn Valley View Middle School student regarding a nonspecific threat made on a national social media gaming website. Elkhorn Public Schools administration cooperated fully with local law enforcement throughout the investigation.  Elkhorn Public Schools takes all threats seriously, and in this situation, at no time did we feel students were in immediate danger. Parents of the student affected received an email on Wednesday afternoon, informing them of the situation." Captain Wayne Hudson with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said deputies will be patrolling schools more closely in upcoming days given the alleged threats. Hudson says law enforcement agencies across the nation are not taking any potential copycat shooting threats lightly and encourage people to report any suspicious activity. "The whole thing of, if you hear something, say something — we need that information. As we saw in Florida, it seems several kids had information," Hudson said. "They knew this individual had made certain comments and certain threats — especially kids.
