Despite the president calling for a boycott of Goodyear tires, his campaign’s NASCAR vehicle must race with the tire this summer. The reason? NASCAR has an official partnership with Goodyear, as Goodyear is the “Official Tire of NASCAR.”Go Fas Racing general manager Mason St. Hilaire told Fox Business that the choice is either drive with Goodyear tires, or no tires at all.“We just have one way to run them,” St. Hilaire told FOX Business. “It’s either those tires or no tires. We don’t have much of a choice. There should be two. I don’t know if you should just have one. You’ve got to keep something for the competition, right? Putting another one in would probably be a little bit of fun, both for cost and competition.”The Trump 2020 car has been driven by Corey LaJoie this summer. The relationship with Go Fas Racing and the car’s sponsor, Patriots of America, is for nine races this season.Trump called for the boycott on Wednesday after reports accused Goodyear of banning hats with Trump’s campaign slogan from being worn by employees. Goodyear responded saying images purporting to be from Goodyear did not come from Goodyear’s corporate office. But the company did acknowledge, however, that employees are discouraged from supporting political campaigns while working.“The visual in question was not created or distributed by Goodyear corporate, nor was it part of a diversity training class,” Goodyear said in a statement. “To be clear on our longstanding corporate policy, Goodyear has zero tolerance for any forms of harassment or discrimination. To enable a work environment free of those, we ask that associates refrain from workplace expressions in support of political campaigning for any candidate or political party, as well as similar forms of advocacy that fall outside the scope of racial justice and equity issues.” 1848

DENVER — A Denver dad who witnessed a serious crash involving a pedestrian on Leetsdale Drive Thursday night says he wants to know why two paramedics, in a South Adams County - Northglenn ambulance, ignored his requests to help a young boy injured in that crash."I was heading to Cherry Creek reservoir with my dog," said the witness, who asked to remain anonymous. "The two little boys, one must not have been much over the age of 8, made their way across Leetsdale, several yards west of the Quebec intersection."He said the boys were crossing from north to south and had made it to the island in the middle of the street, and then began walking in front of cars that were stopped at the light. They were almost on the other side, when an eastbound car began approaching in the right turn lane. The boys darted in front of the car. The younger one took the brunt of the impact."He flew 20 yards and lost both of his shoes," the witness said. "I couldn't believe it."The witness added that what happened next was even more unbelievable. He spotted an ambulance waiting at the stoplight around the corner."By the Grace of God, there was a paramedic sitting...in traffic," he told Denver7. The witness said he approached the ambulance and knocked on the window."I told them, 'he's on the road, you've got to go help him,'" he said. But there was no response."I remember thinking they weren't understanding me. There's no reaction. I said, 'you have to go help him,'" he said. The witness, who has a 1-year old son, said he was talking to his wife on the phone and she told him to record the ambulance, so he did.He shared cell phone video of the ambulance, which was in the far-right southbound lane inching its way up to the intersection. After a brief toot of the siren, the ambulance entered the intersection and proceeded southbound without stopping, while the injured boy lay in the street a few yards away."It's sad," the witness said. "It's something that shouldn't happen in the United States."He said he wants to see some accountability.Ambulance Service ReactionKMGH reached out to South Adams County Paramedics-Northglenn Ambulance, a nonprofit service based in Northglenn.Initially, a director said she'd look into the claims, and then called back and said it was under investigation, so she couldn't comment. She cautioned that there "are two sides to every story."When asked about the nonprofit's protocol when paramedics are made aware of an accident outside their normal "coverage" area, the director said she couldn't answer that question while the incident is under investigation.KMGH checked with other paramedic services in metro Denver.A couple of them said they have no formal policy, but would stop and render aid, until local authorities arrived. One spokeswoman said without being there, it's hard to know whether there was a patient in the back of that ambulance, or whether it was on its way to pick one up."If there was a patient inside, the paramedics may not have been able to divert attention from the patient in the ambulance," she said.Serious ConditionDenver Police are still investigating the accident which happened around 6 p.m.They say the young victim remains in serious condition, but is stable. 3330

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser will investigate whether criminal charges are warranted against anyone involved in the death of Elijah McClain, Gov. Jared Polis announced Thursday afternoon.Polis designated Weiser as the state prosecutor through an executive order and said that if the attorney general’s investigation supports prosecution of anyone tied to McClain’s death, that Weiser would prosecute the case.“Elijah McClain should be alive today, and we owe it to his family to take this step and elevate the pursuit of justice in his name to a statewide concern,” Polis said in a statement.READ MORE: What we know about the death of Elijah McClainPolis’ announcement came less than a day after his office said he had told his legal counsel to determine if the state could step in and investigate the case surrounding McClain’s death, which has garnered national attention since demonstrations began after the death of George Floyd and other deaths of Black Americans at the hands of police have become more widely known.“Elijah McClain should be alive today. His life mattered and his death was tragic,” Weiser said in a statement. “The pain, frustration, and anger that his family and many Coloradans are feeling from his death is understandable and justified. Whenever someone dies after an encounter with law enforcement, the community deserves a thorough investigation. Our investigation will be thorough, guided by the facts, and worthy of public trust and confidence in the criminal justice system.”Polis’ announcement of a state investigation also comes as the members of the Aurora Public Safety Policy Committee seeks a list of potential outside investigators by the middle of next month, and as Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman seeks to have a vote at a council meeting on July 6 on whether to authorize another independent investigation into the case. The independent investigation has been fraught with controversy since many council members felt the original outside probe, led by a Connecticut-based attorney with ties to law enforcement, was not independent enough. That contract was terminated June 10 and Mayor Mike Coffman said in a tweet that “another individual will be selected by the Mayor and the City Council.”Though calls for an external review and independent investigation into McClain’s August 2019 death have been ongoing in Colorado since it happened, the heightened awareness regarding the case nationally has brought further pressure from the public for another investigation. The city has already changed department policies directly tied to McClain’s death.McClain suffered a heart attack on the way to a hospital after the Aug. 24 incident, which happened in the 1900 block of Billings Street. Officers had responded to a call about a suspicious man wearing a ski mask and waving his arms. When they arrived, they contacted McClain, who they claimed resisted when the officers tried to detain him, police said.A struggle ensued, and a responding officer requested that a paramedic give McClain a dose of ketamine "due to the level of physical force applied while restraining the subject and his agitated mental state," officials said. But in the department's review of the incident earlier this year, the board found that the officers "had a lawful reason to contact Mr. McClain."The board also found that the force applied by officers — which included a carotid control hold — during the incident was "within policy and consistent with training."The carotid hold has since been banned by the department. The Adams County Coroner conducted the autopsy on McClain and ruled that the manner of his death was "undetermined," saying it could not determine whether his death was an accident, due to natural causes or a homicide.District Attorney Dave Young said in an interview Wednesday he has been inundated with calls and some attacks on him and his family. He encouraged those sending emails to read his decision. He sent out a lengthy statement on Thursday morning reiterating that he had not “cleared the officers” involved in McClain’s death. Click here to read his full statement.“This statement is not only incorrect, it does not adequately convey the role of the district attorney or the decision I was called upon to make,” Young said. “Consequently, given the degree of public interest with this investigation, it is important for me to explain the process, along with my authority and decisions with respect to the case involving the death of Mr. McClain.”Polis said he was “moved” after speaking with McClain’s mother, Sheneen McClain, and his friends about Elijah.“As a father, my heart breaks for the McClain family. All Coloradans should be safe walking home from the convenience store, or just being in their own neighborhoods listening to headphones. Unfortunately, I know that is not how many people -- especially young people of color -- feel in our state today, because I’ve heard it from them directly. We need to do a better job, and at a bare minimum they deserve a thorough review of the case,” Polis said.“The cries for justice have gone unheard too long, but I am proud of Colorado for taking this step today. Walking home while black is not a crime and should never be a death sentence. No more excuses, it’s time to fire the officers and paramedics that were involved and prosecute them to the full extent of the law,” said Rep. Leslie Herod, D-Denver, in a statement. She has worked closely with the McClain family to bring justice in his case.Weiser said that he supports Aurora’s efforts to bring in another outside investigation and said that his office would work with them “to the extent possible to ensure accountability and so that important lessons are learned from this tragedy.”“In the coming months, we will work with the General Assembly on any resources needed to fulfill the Executive Order. In order to maintain impartiality and integrity in the process, we will not have further comment on this case until we announce our findings,” Weiser said. This story was originally published by Blair Miller at KMGH. 6099

Days after the election, the country is still in limbo wondering who our next president is. It can be stressful for adults, but we have to remember, our kids are watching, too."The divisiveness has gotten so significant, and we really can’t help prevent our kids from getting exposed to it," said Children's Hospital Colorado child and adolescent psychologist Dr. Jessica Hawks. For months before this polarized election, children have seen attack ads, rallies, and protests. Our country is so divided with this election, and it's still not over."It’s inevitable that they’re going to see it," said Dr. Hawks. So, Dr. Hawks says instead of trying to shield our children, we should be open and have age-appropriate conversations."A lot of times parents worry that approaching these sensitive topics can somehow be unhelpful, or maybe amplify the problem, but the opposite is true. Talking about it is really important," said Dr. Hawks. But it’s not just talking with our children. We have to be mindful of the conversations we have with the other adults in our house."As parents, we have to be really aware of how we’re showing up every day in front of our kids to make sure we’re doing the things we need to be doing to help promote our kids’ health and well-being," said Dr. Hawks. She says this is a great opportunity to teach our kids several lessons. One is how to be a critical thinker."One of the things parents can be doing right now is teaching their kids how do you evaluate the information out there in a critical way, look to trusted news sources to be able to inform people's opinions," said Dr. Hawks.Another thing you can teach your kids is how to have differing viewpoints."It’s important that kids learn how to stop, listen, ask questions, be open to other people’s perspectives, and be able to do that in a way that maybe at the end of that conversation, you don’t change your opinion, but you have the ability to engage in that important political discourse in a respectful way," said Hawks.Especially in this election that’s split so closely down the middle. 2081

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) — A three-year-old horse died after it broke down during training and had to be euthanized at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Saturday. The horse, named Koa, broke down during training, according to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC) confirmed. The extent of the horse's injury was unclear.Koa is the ninth horse to die while racing or training at Del Mar this year. RELATED: Horse injured at Del Mar euthanized following complicationsTwo days into Del Mar's summer season, two horses — two-year-old Charge A Bunch and three-year-old Carson Valley — collided head-on during training, killing both animals. Carson Valley's jockey, Assael Espinoza, suffered an injury to his back and was hospitalized.A third horse, Bowl of Soul, was euthanized less than two weeks after due to a fetlock joint injury. Bri Bri, an unraced three-year-old filly, was euthanized in August after suffering a serious injury during training. In November, two horses — three-year-olds Ghost Street and Prayer Warrior — died after serious injuries in separate races. A third horse, Princess Dorian, was also injured during a race and later euthanized after complications from surgery.Another horse, Slewgoodtobetrue, died in November after it collapsed in a barn after a workout.RELATED: Del Mar Thoroughbred Club upgrades horse safety for 2019 racing seasonIn response to the early horse deaths, DMTC said a series of safety reforms have been instituted to ensure horses are protected during races.“Del Mar has implemented a series of safety and welfare reforms over the last several racing seasons, including the creation of an independent five-member panel to review all entries. To date, there have been no fatal injuries during racing in the current summer meet,” club officials said at the time.If a horse's injury is catastrophic enough, it may be nearly impossible to rehabilitate them, leading to euthanization, according to veterinarians. 1944
