Complaints are growing nationwide about workplace safety issues related to coronavirus. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, has received more than 6,500 nationwide on a federal level since February. One trial lawyer who works in employment law says she expects the number of complains will keep going up.“Where I really think the numbers are going to escalate is in the retaliation world, where employees bring issues to their employers' attention about failing to implement appropriate administrative or engineering controls or social distancing measures and then they feel that they have suffered an adverse employment action as a result of bringing this to their employer's attention,” said trial lawyer Laura Lawless.OSHA recently updated its guidance on COVID-19-related workplace safety. It now suggests wherever possible and feasible employers should require masks at work. This guidance is something Lawless says everyone was waiting on. She says for states or cities that already had a mask mandate it was easier to enforce at work already, but for states that don't have this mandate, it was harder until now.“At least you can now turn to CDC guidance and OSHA guidance as an employer and say look even if you disagree with us for a political reason or personal expression reason, we're following the guidance from agencies that are meant to look out for your health and safety,” said Lawless.Still, there are concerns OSHA isn't going far enough in other areas. One big criticism among employee protective organizations, workers organizations and unions is that OSHA’s guidance on COVID-19 isn't a regulation and doesn't really have any teeth.Virginia and Oregon are two states looking to fill in the gap with their own worker protections. If you see issues in your workplace, the employment lawyer recommends being reasonable in your approach and not getting too emotional in your reaction. She says also keep careful documentation about who you spoke to and what you talked about. 2022

Coronavirus cases are surging across the US, and the timing for retailers could not be worse. With Thanksgiving and the start of the busy holiday shopping season less than 10 days away, there is obvious concern for retailers headed into the season. But a Washington State University survey shows shoppers find it is important to support businesses during the pandemic. The survey found that 71% of shoppers say shopping in-person is worth it when it's to help local businesses stay open. But it seems like the pandemic is discouraging some Americans from participating in Black Friday sales. The survey found that 76% of shoppers said they would rather do something else on Black Friday than shop, which is a 10% increase from a year ago.Unlike in years past, many major retailers are opting to close on Thanksgiving. The survey found that 71% of shoppers are more likely to support businesses that give their employees the day off on Thanksgiving."The pandemic will have a significant impact on shopping behaviors this year, with more consumers shopping online than ever before," said Joan Giese, CCB clinical associate professor of marketing. "However, despite these changes, we've found that many consumers feel that holiday shopping will provide a sense of normalcy during an unfamiliar holiday season."The National Retail Federation says that the industry has shown some resilience during the pandemic. The organization says that ,200 economic impact payments helped keep the industry afloat during the pandemic.“Strong growth in retail sales during the last few months points to the resiliency of consumers even in this disruptive pandemic environment,” National Retail Federation chief economist Jack Kleinhenz said. “Taking in all the evidence available, the U.S. economic recovery has progressed more quickly than generally expected.” 1850

CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) — Hotel Del's most notable resident may be the special guest of an event at the Coronado landmark this month. On Oct. 12, medium James Van Praagh will host a séance at the Hotel Del Coronado in which he will try to connect with the hotel's permanent guest, Kate Morgan, in addition to any others significant to those in attendance. But Morgan isn't the only thing drawing the medium to the iconic hotel. Van Praagh's first visit to the location left quite the impression.RELATED: Discovery the Star of India's ghostly past on special October tours"Well besides being gorgeous and completely unique, it’s extremely haunted," Van Praagh said in a release. "The lobby area has very heavy imprints of spirit. 10 years ago when I visited Hotel Del Coronado for the first time, I didn’t know it’s history. As soon as I walked in, I saw women in Victorian dresses all over the lobby."Morgan is known for her presence at the Hotel Del. According to the hotel, Morgan checked into the hotel alone under the name "Lottie A Bernard" from Detroit. Five days later, she was found dead on a hotel staircase leading to the beach. The San Diego County coroner determined she had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.RELATED: Halloween family fun, haunted houses, and parties in San DiegoOver time, guests say they have seen Morgan, felt breezes come from nowhere, and seen televisions turn on and off by themselves. But in order to have a successful reading, Van Praagh says he's going into the experience without any prior knowledge of Morgan."I don’t know enough about Kate to know if we’ve met. She might have been part of the crowd of spirits I saw hanging out in the hotel lobby the first time I visited the Del," Van Praagh said. "I don’t want to research her, because I want to hold the séance in October with a totally open mind so she can come through clearly."Tickets for the VIP seance are extremely limited and will cost 9 to join the group. Van Praagh is a New York Times best-selling author and known around the world for his readings. He's appeared on national television as well, including appearances on Oprah, Larry King, Dr. Phil, and more. 2225

CLEVELAND — On Friday, WEWS talked to Len Honacki, a Cleveland man who was waiting on his heart medication after a United States Postal Service delay.“I was a little worried how long I can go without before I call the doctor and say ‘Hey what’s going on and what do I need to do?'” he said.Tracking records show that his medicine had been to Cincinnati, Washington D.C., and Maryland.“The post office had a series of mishaps," he said. When Alicia Rauckhorst, the Northern Ohio marketing manager for USPS, learned of Honacki’s issue, she decided to take matters into her own hands.“Somewhere in there, inadvertently, it got sent to Maryland,” she said. “As soon as it got back, no matter where it was, I was going to let him know.”She called Honacki herself.“She called me just to apologize and she said ‘I will do whatever it takes to find your meds and I would get it to you,’” he said. “When someone says ‘I'll drive to Cincinnati 4 hours and pick it up and bring it 4 hours back.’ To me, I mean, come on, that’s above and beyond.”Luckily, Rauckhorst made sure his meds arrived in Cleveland Saturday night and Sunday morning she made a special delivery.“I went up there and picked up the package called it when I had it in hand and said ‘Hey, I’m on my way to your house to bring you this medicine.’”Honacki was shocked.“She comes to the front door and delivers the mail right to me. It was phenomenal,” he said. And while he was floored by the kindness, he still worries about other people who may not have their medication in time.“There are good people out there that do wonderful things,” he said.”Maybe they could come up with some sort of system where they had a priority-med service so that if they scan it, it would automatically say this is a medicine.”Rauckhorst said they know every second is important when delivering packages to people.“We don’t necessarily prioritize, in that regard, but we know that this time of year, especially being in a pandemic, everything is critical and we are doing everything we can to get every single package, letter to the customer,” she said.RELATED: Man's heart medication among deliveries impacted by USPS shipping delays, issuesThis story originally reported by Jessi Schultz on News5Cleveland.com. 2257
