SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County environmental health officials issued a water contact closure Friday along the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Border Field State Park due to sewage-contaminated water. The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health issued the closure Friday afternoon following rainfall this week that caused contaminated water in the Tijuana River to flow into U.S. waterways. County officials regularly issue beach closures after rainstorms due to contaminated flows from the river. The closure extends along the shoreline from the U.S.-Mexico border to the southern end of Seacoast Drive. County officials have placed water contact closure signs to alert beachgoers of the water's contamination. The signs will remain in place until water sampling meets state health standards. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who was sentenced to nearly a decade in state prison for crashing a pickup truck over the side of a transition ramp to the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, killing four people and injuring several others when it landed in Chicano Park below, was released from state prison Friday.Richard Anthony Sepolio, 28, was released Friday morning after serving two years and 10 months of his nine-year, eight-month sentence, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office confirmed.Sepolio was convicted by a jury last year of four counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of DUI causing injury. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle this morning on state Route 163 in the Kearny Mesa area.The crash was reported around 3 a.m. near the Balboa Avenue off-ramp from northbound SR-163, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP reported.No details about the victim, the vehicle or its driver were immediately available.CHP officers were investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash. 496

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman who caught herself on fire in her kitchen and her husband were burned when he rushed in to help his wife inside their home in the Bay Terraces neighborhood Sunday, fire officials said.The stove fire inside a home on the 7500 block of Careybrook Lane ignited about 3 p.m. Sunday, fire officials said.The husband used whatever he could find in order to help his wife, San Diego Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Raines said."Eventually, there was water used from a bathroom," San Diego police Lt. Mike Ramsay told the station. "But due to whatever was used (by the husband) part of the flash, part of the fire, his clothing caught on fire."The husband and wife were taken to the UCSD hospital burn center.
