CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Sweetwater Union High School District is tightening its belt on the budget. On the table is a plan to not replace dozens of positions and cut bus routes. Critics say the move could leave hundreds of students without a ride to school. The board meets Tuesday night to finalize the plan to save money. One of the biggest moves on the table is not replacing some 80 positions within the district. Positions on the chopping block include assistant superintendent positions and nine bus drivers. No one within the district will be at risk of losing their jobs. Instead, the positions won’t be replaced after employees retire. Roughly 300 employees already chose to take an early retirement. The district also plans to eliminate 30 bus routes next school year that will save half a million dollars per year. Four of the districts 13 high schools will be affected by the route cuts. Several parents say they were blindsided by the news. "Out here we have year round schooling, so schools going to be starting for us in July. That’s just a couple months to figure out for parents that are working how they're going to change their schedules and if they can't then these kids are left to fend for themselves,” said Sara McIntosh. The district says Sweetwater is one of a few districts that still offers bus service. Many districts cut it years ago when the state stopped requiring it. It’s only required by law for special ed students. 1469

CINCINNATI — Ohio State Representative John Becker, R-Clermont County, has announced that he has filed articles of impeachment against Gov. Mike DeWine.Becker, who represents the suburbs outside of Cincinnati, drafted the articles back in August to “restore the rule of law” back to the state. On Monday, 12 articles of impeachment were issued by him, along with Reps. Candice Keller, Nino Vitale, and Paul Zeltwanger. All of the representatives that filed the articles were Republicans, just like DeWine. The articles allege DeWine has abused his power as governor and has violated both the Ohio and U.S. Constitutions as well as Ohio Revised Code in issuing COVID-19 health ordinances.“Rather than hearing the cries of Ohioans, Gov. DeWine continues to stifle those cries by finding more inventive ways to use masks to muffle the voices of the people,” Becker said. “He continues to have callous disregard for the fact that his isolation policies have led to a shockingly high number of suicides, alarming rates of drug abuse, persistently high unemployment, and the forced abandonment of the elderly by their loved ones.” 1129

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating two violent incidents that occurred at Chula Vista’s Otay Ranch Town Center in recent weeks. The Chula Vista Police Department is asking for the public’s help as they try to find the people suspected in a stabbing incident on Sept. 25 and an assault on Oct. 2 that happened at the mall on 2015 Birch Rd.In the Sept. 25 incident, at around 6 p.m., two people were approached by a group of four people, and then “three of the subjects began assaulting one of the victims,” police said.Police said one victim was stabbed in the back of the leg and had their backpack stolen. The suspects in this case were described by police as Black male juveniles. In the Oct. 2 incident, a person was with friends at the mall when he was approached by about eight juveniles. Police said, “One of the suspects then punched the victim and a second suspect stole the victim’s Boston Red Sox baseball hat. When friends attempted to intervene and help the victim, a third suspect brandished a knife and told them to, ‘back up.’ No victims were stabbed during the incident.”Police said the three primary male suspects were described as:Suspect #1: described as a Black male juvenile, 5'7 "built", wearing red pantsSuspect #2: described as a Black male juvenile, 5'10 "built", wearing a white shirtSuspect #3: described as a Hispanic male juvenile, 5'10 about 145 pounds, slicked back hair and wearing a black shirtPolice said it is unknown if the two incidents are related.Anyone with information on the incidents is urged to contact Chula Vista police at 619-691-5151 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1805
