And actually, really horrifying for me to see because I know my brother was right in the middle of a room that had flashover and that was his last experience,” said Grogg.This is her outlet to grieve. She's found purpose in educating and warning others. Had her brother’s home had fire sprinklers, she thinks her family would still be here today.“You can replace material things, but you can't replace a life and that's the difference. You really need to consider fire sprinklers to save the lives of your family,” said Grogg.Shane Ray is the president of the National Fire Sprinkler Association. He’s been in the fire service since 1984 and has seen how smoke detectors alone are not enough to prevent deaths.“We have more contents in our home than we've ever had before and most of those contents are made out of synthetic materials, so it produces a much more toxic smoke, much faster and much more deadly,” Ray said.On Thursday, he demonstrated how quickly a fire spreads. Within a minute, flames and smoke engulfed a tiny room. The smoke alarm sounded then the sprinklers went off. In a side-by-side comparison, the same room, without sprinklers, is completely destroyed by the fire.Ray said the sprinklers give families time to evacuate, buy firefighters time to get to the incident, and can save the lives of our pets.“Ninety-six percent of fires are contained with just one sprinkler. This is the sprinkler that came out of that fire. So, if we had another 10 rooms in the house, this is the only sprinkler that would activate. It's not tied to the smoke alarm, it's not tied to anything else, it's individually heat-activated,” said Ray, attempting to dispel some myths surrounding sprinklers.The heat in a room must reach 155 degrees before the bulb in the sprinkler shatters, releasing water. Burnt toast or cigar smoke will not set off fire sprinklers.According to the National Fire Protection Association, more than 2,500 people die in home fires each year. BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Two Sonic employees were killed and multiple others were injured in a shooting at a restaurant near Omaha, Nebraska, on Saturday. The Bellevue Police Department (BPD) said during a Sunday press conference that there were five victims, all of whom were employees of the Sonic restaurant. Lt. Andy Jashinke identified the deceased as 22-year-old Nathan Pastrana and 28-year-old Ryan Helbert. They were declared dead at the scene. Two other victims, 18-year-old Zoey Reese Atalig Lujan and 25-year-old Kenneth Germe, were transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center as a "Code 3," which Jashinske described as being in critical or near critical condition. A fifth victim had minor injuries. No officers were injured.The police have released body camera footage from their response, showing the shooting suspect, 23-year-old Roberto C. Silva Jr., being arrested at the scene.Jashinske offered condolences to the loved ones of the deceased, as well as prayers and thoughts for those who were injured. The caller described seeing suspicious items such as wires and tubes sticking out of the back of the truck.At 9:24 p.m. a call reported shots fired in the area.First police unit arrived at 9:26 p.m.By 9:27, the first description of the suspect came though as a male, approximately 6 feet 6 inches tall, with a large build and an unknown race.At 9:31, officers reported that they believed they'd located the suspect.At 9:39, the police officers on the scene confirmed they had the suspect in custody.Officers on the west side of Sonic apprehended the suspect. At team of officers on the east side observed victims inside the restaurant and performed first aid immediately on three victims. Police believe it was brought there by the suspect and confirmed that it was in flames and was burned up.Officers located at total of four firearms on the scene.The suspect was not armed when he was arrested. BALTIMORE, Md. - A picture is worth a thousand words. It's a cliche saying but it's true.Many times when you look at a picture, it takes you back to that exact moment in time. That's what a local artist focuses on doing for people to capture their memories.Shawn Parsons has been painting his entire life and sells his work but sometimes he gives away a piece of his artwork.Over the winter, he painted a picture of a pet after his coworker's dog died."The overwhelming joy was so huge for me when I left there I thought maybe there’s something about painting someone else’s memories," said Parsons. "It was such a cool feeling for me to give something to someone where the emotion was so high I continued to do it."So he painted a few more and gave them away.This pandemic put a different twist on things for Parsons. His friend, Erin Millon, asked if he would paint a picture for her son's birthday. It was just another project that turned into a movement.Parsons painted a picture for her son, McCabe, of him playing lacrosse. McCabe made the varsity lacrosse team at McDonogh High School as a freshman but his season was canceled."We were able to play two games and then everything shut down," said McCabe. "It hurt a lot, still does. One of the worst parts about it was seeing how much the seniors lost and knowing how much they care and how much they’ve been working all fall, all winter."McCabe was blown away by Parsons' painting, he wanted others to feel what he did.
