ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) — Encinitas officials announced a "one-of-a-kind" crosswalk has been placed across Coast Highway 101 in downtown.Officials say the artistic crosswalk featuring surfboard shapes and waves spans across the highway at G Street and took two years of coordination between city staff and City Council to put together. The city says the crosswalk will improve walkability and bring more public art to the area.Artist Steffen Vala, whose work has appeared around the globe and been featured by Apple, Marvel, and other big brands, was commissioned for the crosswalk."The iconography of surfboard shapes is a nod to each surfer's 'magic board,' unique to them like their fingerprint. Juxtaposing this individualism is a unifying tidal wave laid out like the ocean's fingerprint that connects all the surfboards. This symbolizes the unifying, collective, 'party wave' we are all riding and our love in protecting the environment while celebrating our differences," the city said in a release. The city says the crosswalk is the longest decorative crosswalk of its kind and first one across a historic highway. 1132

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man accused of hitting and killing an Escondido bicyclist appeared in court Wednesday on unrelated charges. Jamison Connor, 41, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. The charges were unrelated to the deadly hit-and-run and were instead a result of parole violations in which Connor was found with a bag of methamphetamine and a loaded gun during a traffic stop. Also in the truck at the time of the stop was Connor's young son, prosecutors say. The District Attorney's office went into detail outside the courtroom about the arrest. "During their investigation, police noted several signs and symptoms the defendant was under the effect of controlled substances and alcohol," said Assistant DA Chris Campbell. "When they took the defendant out, law enforcement searched the truck. They found a bag of meth in passenger side door and loaded 25 caliber firearm in glove compartment."After his arrest, police announced Connor as the suspect in a hit-and-run crash that killed 36-year-old Kevin Lentz. Lentz was cycling with a group along La Honda Road north of El Norte Parkway when he was hit head-on November 23. “The driver of the car was on the wrong side of the road, traveling at high speed on a blind curve when he hit Kevin head-on, killing him instantly,” wrote Devin Rickey on a GoFundMe page set up for Lentz’ family.RELATED: Friends mourn bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crashOfficers later found a dark Toyota sedan abandoned about a half-mile away from the crash on the 600 block of Aster Street. Everyone can relax. Diddy is still Diddy. The mogul born Sean Combs set the internet a-Twitter over the weekend when he announced on his birthday he was changing his name to "Brother Love.""I'm just not who I am before, I'm something different," he said. "So my new name is 'Love,' a.k.a. 'Brother Love.'"Given that Combs has at various points in his rap/fashion/entrepreneurial career gone by Puffy, Puff Daddy, Puff, etc. it seemed entirely feasible. But Diddy posted a video Monday on his official Instagram account saying he was just kidding and remarking, "Well, ladies and gentlemen, today I've come to the conclusion that you cannot play around with the internet.""Due to the overwhelming response from the media out there, and just due to there not wanting to be any confusion... I was only joking, okay," said the artist still known as Diddy. "I didn't change my name. It was just part of one of my alter egos. One of my alter egos is 'Love.'"To play on one of his more famous hits, "Mo money, mo names, mo problems."A brief history of Diddy's name changes: 1072
