(KGTV) - Chula Vista boxer Andrea Medina has a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream before she even turns 21.Monday, she'll begin fighting in the Team USA Olypmic Team Trials for boxing, with a chance to go to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo."I feel like this is my time," she says. "It's what I've been working for. It's exciting. I'm ready."Medina has been boxing since she was 5 years old. She's already won 16 National Championships.At the trials, she'll face 7 other women vying for two spots at the Team USA training center in Colorado Springs."I've already fought half of them," she says of the competition. "And I've sparred against the other half. So I know who I'm going up against."Medina's father, Juan, is a former boxer and serves as her trainer. He says she's the favorite to advance out of the double-elimination tournament."I'm biased, but if I were to put a percentage on it, I'd say we have a high 90's percent chance," he says.He also says he's proud of the way his daughter has dedicated her life to the sport and the pursuit of her dream."You have to prioritize. You can't chose other things over boxing," he says. "Boxing is a jealous sport. So you have to pretty much surrender yourself to the sport. She made that choice and now we're here.'In addition to her boxing, Medina is also a full-time student at San Diego State. CHICAGO, Ill. -- With the U.S. Postal Service stretched thin and millions voting by mail, some voters have taken extreme measures to ensure their vote counts. In some cases, they’ve traveled hundreds of miles to cast a ballot.Following the postmaster general’s controversial decision this summer to decommission nearly 700 mail-sorting machines across the country, Sarah Alana was worried about voting by mail.“We all have a choice and what's going on right now with the Postal Service is another matter entirely. Clearly, it's not working,” she said.In Georgia, where she has lived and voted since 2013, nearly a dozen mail-sorting machines were removed. Still, she applied for an absentee ballot.“It was sent out the same day,” said Alana. “Three weeks later, no absentee ballot. And I was getting just so mad.”Even more of a problem, she’s currently staying in Durango, Colorado, dealing with respiratory issues.“I'm here to see if the dry air is a little bit better for my breathing problems,” she said.In Georgia, more than 1.1 million absentee by mail ballots have been returned, trouncing the nearly 155,000 cast in 2016. But, another half million mail-in ballots have yet to be returned.Sarah Alana decided not to take any chances. Despite being high-risk for complications from COVID-19, she bought a 5 plane ticket and made the 1,600-mile journey from Durango to Atlanta to vote in person.“I went through three airports. I took two flights. I was in three Lyft rides, which actually, that was scary for me too.”Others have made similar trips, like a woman studying in Chicago who traveled to her home state of Texas to cast her ballot.The children of 94-year-old Mildred Madison children drove her 300 miles to Detroit to vote in person when her absentee ballot didn’t arrive at her temporary address.“Vote. But know who you are voting for and why,” said Madison.Alana says there’s too much at stake this election not to ensure your voice is heard.“I didn't want to be a victim,” she said. “There is no American citizen that needs to be a victim this year. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) --  Eastlake's Design District shopping complex, which once boasted a vibrant family and adult nightlife destination for the sprawling east Chula Vista communities, lost yet another marquee tenant.Good bye, Tavern+Bowl Eastlake.The 11-year-old bowling alley and sports lounge, located at 871 Showroom Place off Otay Lakes Road, locked its doors unexpectedly Monday night.  The 16,000-square-foot establishment nestled within a modern strip mall adorned with water features, rich landscaping, and winding sidewalks was a popular spot for locals.Tavern and Bowl is one of four recent closures at the Design District: restaurant Filippi's Pizza Grotto, arcade and laser tag center Lazer Journey, and indoor go-kart track Eastlake Speed Circuit.READ:?Anonymous tip led to Filippi's inspectionIt's unclear if staff or management were aware of the bowling alley's plans to shut down.  Robyn Spencer, a sales director at the San Diego location, would only say that the tavern "has permanently closed."What is clear is that at least one regular was left in the dark.Emeka Enunwa, an Eastlake resident and manager at Work Skills, is upset that the bowling alley is gone.  He says he often brings a group of adults with disabilities to Tavern and Bowl to learn life skills by working light "volunteer-like" duties, such as cleaning and performing tasks.He says his group was there two days ago but nobody told him that would be their last shift. His group took pride working at the facility and that the news of the closure may be devastating to some. Enunwa also worried about what's happening in Eastlake that's forcing all these businesses to shut down. READ: 'Ghost Town?'?Vacant storefronts reflect mall struggles at Chula Vista's Otay Ranch Town Center"I live in the neighborhood and have seen stores close in this shopping complex," he said. "I'm beginning to feel bad as a business owner; no notice ... throwing employees out of work," he said."I'm feeling for the city...they're losing jobs, they're losing money," he said.Enunwa is working quickly to find another business partner but says it's hard "because not everybody wants to accept people with disabilities."The District at Eastlake property management group could not be reached immediately Wednesday for comment.10News' Laura Acevedo contributed to this report. 2492

CINCINNATI -- A school bus crash Monday afternoon on Winton Road in Cincinnati left a 12-year-old girl in "critical" condition, flung a 2-year-old boy onto the road and resulted in the hospitalization of at least 18 other children, according to Lt. Steve Saunders.At least 11 children, including the seriously injured boy and girl, were taken away in ambulances Monday afternoon after the Pleasant Hill Academy bus and four other vehicles collided around 2:30 p.m. Nine others were taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center after their parents took them there to be checked out."I was devastated," parent Latisha McKelton said of the moment she heard about the crash. "I didn’t know what was wrong with my child. I just had to jump in the first moving vehicle and get here as fast as I could to my child. I didn't know if he was injured. I didn't know if he was going to be alive. I just didn't know. I was praying the whole way."According to a news release from Cincinnati police, a total of around 40 people were involved in the crash.Police said the bus was traveling southbound on Winton when a northbound vehicle driven by 23-year-old Robert Jett made an ill-fated attempt to pass the vehicle in front of him.Jett lost control of his car and struck another, this one driven by Jordan Ervin and transporting a pair of toddlers. Ervin's vehicle spun out of control and hit the bus; bus driver Tina Turnbow attempted to control her spinning vehicle and struck a fourth car, this one driven by LeAndre Acoff.Ervin was hospitalized in serious condition, as were his two passengers: The 2-year-old and a 1-year-old.The injured 12-year-old had been riding in the school bus at the time of the crash, according to the release. A district assistant superintendent went to Children's Hospital to help families there. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who are affected by this," Saunders said.He added charges were pending against Jett. 2010
