(KGTV) - A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was killed Friday in a crash involving a truck in the San Francisco suburb of Fairfield.He was identified as Solano-area officer Kirk Griess, KGO reported.Officer Griess was thrown from the motorcycle over a guardrail on Interstate 80 at North Texas St.Law enforcement officers gathered at Northbay Regional Medical Center in Fairfield to pay their respects to the officer. 455

FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- The parents of 10 children rescued from what authorities call years-long abuse are both in jail after their mother was arrested Wednesday.Ina Rogers, 31, was charged with nine counts of felony child abuse. Prosecutors say she caused the children to be in a situation that was likely to produce great bodily injury and death.Her husband, Jonathan Allen, is facing charges that include torture and felony child abuse. He is being held on .2 million bail.Prosecutors said the children, who range in age from 4 months to 12 years, were waterboarded, shot with crossbows and had scalding-hot water poured on them.Sheriff’s officials and prosecutors say the children were rescued from the filthy home on March 31 after suffering puncture wounds, burns, bruises and injuries consistent with being shot with a pellet gun.RELATED: 10 children living in 'squalid and unsafe conditions' removed from California home  Solano County chief deputy district attorney Sharon Henry said the children were tortured “for sadistic purposes.”Court records show that Allen was also charged with four felonies in 2011 that include corporal injury, assault with a firearm and criminal threats in a case involving his wife.He pleaded no contest as part of a deal and was sentenced to 180 days and three years of probation. 1342

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - An Escondido CrossFit class got quite a nasty surprise when they went outside for their workout, Wednesday. They found human feces.The owner of Boombox CrossFit North, Brittani Ramirez, said she was in shock when she heard over the phone, "I didn't believe her; I was like no, we get dogs back there all the time, like I'm sure it was just a stray dog."When she looked back at their security footage, it showed a man walking up to the back door, wiggling the handle, then walking to the corner of the lot, pulling down his pants and defecating.The footage showed it was 3:30 p.m., just an hour before class started."One of my amazing members Lacey stepped in, she gloved up, got some trash bags, she got some bleach, and Katie, one of my coaches, the two of them handled the business," Ramirez said.A health concern for everyone involved. Ramirez said this isn't her first unpleasant experience with homeless, she said they've been stopping in over the three years Boombox has been open."They walk in and they see it's obviously very different in here but still a lot of them are mentally ill or on drugs so they don't quite understand," Ramirez said before she bought the building, it was a redevelopment center for homeless and convicts. The former facility was there for more than 30 years.Ramirez hopes the city can do something to help them. At the gym, she's planning to lock the gate each day to make sure there is no more unwanted surprises.The Deputy City Manager, William Wolfe, said the city's reunited 50-60 homeless people with their families who are now caring for them. He said he is meeting with local business owners Thursday night to talk about forming a homeless task force. He said the city already has a Quality of Life Team, made up of local leaders to address these issues and seek out solutions. If a business owner has an issue with homeless, Wolfe said they should call him.Ramirez opened Boombox after rediscovering her love for fitness. She played basketball, volleyball and softball in her youth and after having children she wanted to rekindle that fire. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - A woman died from her injuries after being hit by a driver at an Encinitas intersection Friday.The 61-year-old victim was walking in a crosswalk at Encinitas Boulevard and Balour Drive just after 6 p.m., San Diego Sheriff's Department (SDSO) said.SDSO said a vehicle approached the intersection while the woman was crossing and stopped to allow her to pass. A second vehicle then approached the intersection and drove around the first vehicle to continue through the intersection, knocking the woman down.She was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital - La Jolla with life-threatening injuries. She later died from those injuries. The woman's name has not been released.The driver charged with hitting the woman remained at the scene. SDSO said alcohol does not appear to be a factor. 831
