SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people working on scaffolding on the side of a downtown high-rise were rescued Tuesday after their equipment became stuck.The two workers were stuck 42 stories in the air after their equipment failed just before 10 a.m., leaving their mobile scaffolding stuck, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.Fire crews climbed to the top floor 46 stories up and were lowered down to the trapped pair. Glass on the 43rd floor of the building was then removed and the workers were hoisted into the building. View this post on Instagram SD Fire-Rescue crews are on scene at a building under construction at 14th and Island. SDFD dispatchers received the request for assistance at about 9:50 Tuesday morning. Two construction workers were on a window washing lift when the lift stopped functioning and the workers were not able to move the lift. USAR 2, engines 2 and 4 and trucks 1 and 11 along with medic 10 responded. The technical rescue team went to the roof and set up the rope system. They lowered down to the construction crew outside the 42nd floor and were able to remove a window on the 43rd floor. The 43rd floor window served as the extraction point. The first construction worker was rescued at 10:52 and the second at 11:01 a.m. The firefighters are now in the process of retrieving their rescue equipment. No injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Across the country, there have been reports of racial discrimination against the Asian Pacific Islander community (API), including here in San Diego County.Erin Chew said she was wrapping up her grocery shopping trip in San Marcos when a man made eye contact with her and began speaking loudly about Asians."He just looked at me and started talking extremely loud to his partner or wife Looking at me saying Chinese people eat all this dirty stuff, eating bats and everything," Chew explained. She said the man also said, "I blame all the Chinese people for bringing this virus into this country."The incidents are not just happening out in public."My organization, SDS U'S Filipinx and Filipinx-American organization Andres Bonifacio Samahan was recently Zoombombed by a group of unknown individuals slandering us," said SDSU student Cristal Ami.Video from the Zoom meeting shows a group of unknown people yelling things like, "All you Asians have coronavirus!"In San Leandro, hate-filled notes were left on several homes, one read, "You have until May 23, Saturday at 10:30 AM to leave this country. No Asians allowed."An online reporting center called Stop AAPI Hate has been documenting the number of reported incidents against Asian Pacific Islanders across the country.As of April 29, it has received 1,711 reports, including 28 across San Diego County.The incidents range from verbal harassment and shunning, to physical assault.The San Diego Asian Pacific Islander (SD API) Coalition is working with San Diego Council President Georgette Gomez and Councilmember Monica Montgomery to put a resolution in front of the entire city council that will address the racial discrimination locally.The resolution proposes that the city should document and report hate crimes through Stop AAPI Hate and work with SD API to use the reported information to create targeted education and provide resources to those affected personally.SD API also said the city council would encourage the city's Human Relations Commission to address and investigate reported incidents.The city council will vote to adopt the resolution on June 2. 2150

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two San Diego area residents are asking the area's top two prosecutors to investigate and prosecute Assemblymember Todd Gloria for alleged violations of the Political Reform Act. According to a letter sent to San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan and San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliot, Kathryn Burton and Mat Wahlstrom allege Gloria "repeatedly violated PRA section 85200 by soliciting and receiving multiple contributions to his Assembly 2020 Committee before filing a statement of intent to run for the Assembly in 2020." The letter says, "without filing that statement, the FPPC's manual makes clear, he could not lawfully receive any funds into his Assembly 2020 Committee." The letter goes on to read, "my clients have reason to believe that there is a conspiracy to launder campaign money from an illegal campaign committee controlled by Mr. Gloria to the San Diego County Democratic Party, to a candidate to replace Mr. Gloria in the Assembly, and to several sitting members of the Assembly." According to the California Secretary of State's website, before raising any campaign funds, state candidates file "Statements of Intention" to run for a specific office. Candidates can file Statements of Intention for more than one office. Team 10 obtained Gloria's signed statement of intention, which shows the state received it on August 13, 2019. That's after the campaign committee was opened and filed a Recipient Committee Campaign Statement. Officials with the California Fair Political Practices Commission tell 10News the Assemblymember called FPPC Enforcement earlier this week and self-reported. Enforcement is determining the appropriate action moving forward. Team 10 reached out to Gloria's campaign, but as of this writing has not heard back.In a Tweet sent Wednesday Gloria wrote, "Some news reports have suggested that I am seeking re-election to the Assembly. I want to be very clear: I am not running for the Assembly, I am running for Mayor. My Assembly committee remains open to fulfill my responsibilities as a Member of the State Assembly until the end of my current term. The form filed by my committee yesterday (August 13th) simply corrected and administrative oversight that occurred when the original paperwork was filed months ago." A spokesperson for the District Attorney says they have received the letter but cannot confirm the existence of any potential investigation that may result. A spokesperson for the City Attorney tells 10News their office has received the letter from attorney David Kenney and is reviewing it. The allegations were first reported by La Prensa. 2777
