U.S. government officials are putting an early end to a study testing an Eli Lilly antibody drug for people hospitalized with COVID-19 because it doesn’t seem to be helping them.Independent monitors had paused enrollment in the study two weeks ago because of a possible safety issue. But on Monday, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which sponsors the study, said a closer look did not verify a safety problem but found a low chance that the drug would prove helpful for hospitalized patients.It is a setback for one of the most promising treatment approaches for COVID-19. President Donald Trump received a similar experimental, two-antibody drug from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. on an emergency basis when he was sickened with the coronavirus earlier this month.In a statement Lilly notes that the government is continuing a separate study testing the antibody drug in mild to moderately ill patients, to try to prevent hospitalization and severe illness. The company also is continuing its own studies testing the drug, which is being developed with the Canadian company AbCellera.Antibodies are proteins the body makes when an infection occurs; they attach to a virus and help it be eliminated. The experimental drugs are concentrated versions of one or two specific antibodies that worked best against the coronavirus in lab and animal tests.Lilly and Regeneron have asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to grant emergency use authorization for their drugs for COVID-19 while late-stage studies continue. TRENTON, Fla. — Two deputies in Trenton, Florida were killed in the line of duty on Thursday.Around 3 p.m., two Gilchrist County Deputy Sheriffs were shot and killed in the Ace China restaurant in downtown Trenton, after a suspect walked up to the business and shot both deputies through the window.According to the Sheriff’s Office, when fellow deputies responded to the scene, they found the shooter deceased outside the business and Sgt. Turkish authorities have audio and visual evidence that shows journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul just over a week ago, a source familiar with the ongoing investigation told CNN.The source, who was briefed by a Western intelligence agency, says the evidence showed there had been an assault and a struggle inside the consulate. There is also evidence of the moment that Khashoggi was killed, the source said.The foreign intelligence service was shocked by the nature of the evidence, provided in a briefing from Turkish officials, the source told CNN.Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post, walked into the consulate in Istanbul on October 2 intending to get paperwork that would allow him to marry his Turkish fiancée. TUCSON, Arizona — An Arizona high school principal admitted on Facebook he changed the grades of seniors at the school, but claims his supervisor directed him to take that action. The Tucson Unified School District Governing Board of Pueblo High School in Arizona have voted to release a district report on the incident that has been kept confidential.The board released the following report:         The governing board is set to vote Wednesday, March 28 on whether to release a portion of the report by the law firm hired by the district.Pueblo High School principal Auggie Romero has come under fire in recent years over a grade changing scandal.  He's been on the hot seat after a teacher came forward to E.W. Scripps television station KGUN in Tucson — that Romero changed several seniors grades without her consent — a violation of state law. And she provided proof — her grade sheets."This is something that has never happened before in my 31 years as a teacher," said Yolanda Sotelo in 2016. Romeo even admitted on Facebook he changed the grades, but claimed his supervisor, Abel Morado, directed him to take that action. KGUN obtained a scathing memo written by Morado, who stated that wasn't the case. He stated that he had reminded Romero he needed to get the teacher to change grades and Romero's "failure to comply with the very simple directive caused all of the controversy." The memo also reveals the Deconcini law firm investigated the allegations and found Romero "did change the student's grades." KGUN requested the document through a public records request, but the district declined citing attorney-client privilege. Now the board is voting on whether to release the findings "concerning potential violations of the law: improper grade-changing, improper promotion, and discrimination.  1961

VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a North County man who disappeared November 14. According to authorities, 54-year-old Brian Lee Danelson was reported missing November 20 after disappearing from the Harvest Farms Market in Valley Center days earlier. Danelson left without his wallet and his cellphone was disconnected, according to his family.Deputies have searched the area surrounding his home in Valley Center and have checked with hospitals to see whether or not he was admitted. According to the Department, Danelson has a tattoo of a tiger on his inner left calf. He is described as six foot tall with gray hair and blue eyes.
