SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A famous San Diego bike trail is open just in time for July 4. Wednesday, SANDAG opened a one-mile stretch of the newly-relocated and upgraded Rose Canyon Bike Path. The path is a segment of the Coastal Rail Trail that stretches along Interstate 5 from north Santa Fe Street to just north of State Route 52. SANDAG says the path will eventually connect to the future 44-mile Coastal Rail Trail, which will extend from Oceanside to Downtown San Diego. According to the agency, the Rose Canyon Bike Path is part of a Complete Corridor, running along the future Mid-Coast Trolley light rail line. 622

According to the National Weather Service, a cold trough will drop to the southwest Monday, triggering showers along and west of the mountains. The freezing level will fall quickly late in the day, resulting in the possibility of icy conditions on roadways. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday that it awarded a 0,000 contract to a San Diego-based technology company to develop technology to monitor water quality.The grant, awarded to 2W iTech LLC, is one of nearly two dozen awarded by the EPA through its Small Business Innovation Research program. The EPA awarded grants worth a combined .3 million to 21 companies across the country to develop technologies to improve environmental and human health, monitor air and water quality and clean contaminated areas.With its grant, 2W iTech will develop a low-cost method to identify trace amounts of perfluoroalkyl substances in water at a rate as small as 10 parts per trillion.According to the EPA, perfluoroalkyl substances are man-made chemicals that are used in various consumer products like cookware and pizza boxes but can cause adverse health affects in humans if exposed to them over long periods of time."These funds support small businesses that have developed new technologies to monitor air quality, test for PFAS, and address other pressing environmental challenges,'' EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said. "Through EPA's Small Business Innovation Research program, we provide important assistance to entrepreneurs as they develop innovative solutions that will strengthen both environmental protections and economic growth.'' The service, which has operated within Europe since 2013, is hoping to carve out a presence with discounted ticket prices and some high-tech additions.For a limited time, travelers can snag fares from Los Angeles to Las Vegas for as low as on select dates throughout June, according to the service's website.
