SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Callum Wagner rose up among the capacity crowd inside a University City ballroom Monday. He took the stage in front of hundreds, as they gave him a standing ovation."My mom keeps saying it's a big deal," said Callum, 12. "I don't like to talk about it."Callum's mom, Beverly Wagner, says she wouldn't be alive today if not for her son. That's why on Monday, Callum was one of three children honored as 2020 local 9-1-1 for kids heroes. It was July 1, 2019. Beverly had just got out of the jacuzzi in their Alpine home when she said she was feeling ill. Moments later, she was unconscious, suffering cardiac arrest. Callum was the oldest other person home at the time. He called 9-1-1, and Heartland Dispatcher Kim Gonzales picked up. "All I remember hearing him say was, his mom is dead, and at that point, it's go time," Gonzales said. For the next eight minutes waiting for first responders, Gonzalez instructed a desperate Callum how to deliver C.P.R. "She's not breathing," Callum told her on the phone call."It's OK, keep doing 1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2, 3, 4," Gonzales responded. It was Callum's first time delivering C.P.R. He did it so well that Beverly made a full recovery, with no brain damage. "He did a great job because he broke my ribs, and that kept me alive," Beverly said. "They said that's a good sign of CPR."Beverly says Callum deserves all the accolades. During the 9-1-1 call, Callum told Gonzales that his mom was going to die. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Covid Clinic’s debut in San Diego County was a little rocky in April when it was shut down by Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer.Fast forward to today, the operation seems to be running smoothly in both La Mesa and Downtown San Diego.“Since we were one of the first to open in San Diego County, there were some things that were brought to our attention that the county wanted,” said Covid Clinic CEO, Matt Collins. “So once we met each of the items that they were requesting, we’ve been able to continue testing without any issues.”Wooten sent a letter to Covid Clinic stating that the first site at MiraCosta College in Cardiff needed to shut down because the proper credentials to operate were not provided to the county. Test results also were not immediately reported to the county.Collins said the clinic now reports results to the county every day.He said, on average, about 100 to 150 people are tested at the downtown location, while about 350 to 400 are tested in La Mesa.While many testing sites are now limiting COVID-19 tests to those who have symptoms or fall in the high-risk category, Collins said anyone could schedule an appointment online to be tested at Covid Clinic.Across the country, people have also reported significant delays in test results. Covid Clinic offers three different tests, and Collins said they guarantee quick results.“We understand how important it is to get a result quickly,” said Collins.The antibody and antigen tests come with rapid results in just 60 minutes for 0.The nasal swabs require lab testing, but results can still be provided within the same day, the next day, or two days, however, it is a bit pricier.“The price varies from 375 dollars for a guaranteed two-day turnaround to 425 dollars for same-day turnaround. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Chula Vista city officials have placed the controversial statue of explorer Christopher Columbus in storage "out of public safety concerns."City spokeswoman Anne Steinberger said the bronze statue was removed early Friday morning from its platform at Discovery Park in the Rancho Del Rey neighborhood.The Columbus statue has been at the park on 700 Buena Vista Way for nearly three decades, but it has been a frequent target of vandals. Last Columbus Day, the statue was doused with red paint.The city had been hearing arguments for and against the removal of the statue with many people -- including local Native American tribes -- calling the sculpture a symbol of hate, theft of land, and genocide. The debate became heated Feb. 26 when representatives from both sides faced off in a Chula Vista Human Relations Commission meeting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City Councilman Scott Sherman is throwing his hat in San Diego's race for the next mayor.Sherman (District 7) pulled candidate intention papers this week, signaling his impending run in 2020, according to documents.Sherman becomes one of the only GOP candidates in the race to replace Mayor Kevin Faulconer, who's also a Republican.
