Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed on Tuesday that legislators would not go home for the holidays without an approval of a stimulus bill.“We're not leaving here without a COVID package. It's not gonna happen. We're gonna stay here until we get a COVID package. No matter how long it takes, we’ll be here,” McConnell said.Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a similar proclamation.But both sides have been working on economic relief for months, but have failed to come to any sort of compromise. But a major sticking point is on whether companies should be protected from coronavirus-related lawsuits. The White House and McConnell have said companies need this protection in order to stay open amid the pandemic. Pelosi and Democrats are against the proposal, citing concerns that businesses will not follow public health guidelines.“This is protection for our small businesses, so that they're not held liable for COVID incidences through no fault of their own,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Tuesday. ”And (Pelosi is) really playing up to the trial lawyers and opposing liability protection, which should be something that's just mere common sense.”Two weeks ago, a bipartisan group of legislators proposed a 0 billion stimulus plan that would extend funds for additional unemployment benefits for up to 18 weeks per worker. The legislation also would replenish funds for the Paycheck Protection Program, which helped companies affected by the pandemic make payroll.There would also be 0 billion earmarked for state and local governments, which have seen a drop in tax revenue due to the pandemic. There is in additional billion allocated toward the transportation industry, most notably for airlines, which have seen an over 50% reduction in business since March.But the bipartisan group’s newest proposal is to make the funding involving state and local governments a separate bill. It’s unclear, however, if that measure would gain enough support to pass, given McConnell’s and Trump’s past opposition to providing pandemic relief to state and local governments facing cuts amid a drop in tax revenue.Another area of contention is on whether Congress should provide Americans with a second round of stimulus checks. While the bipartisan proposal doesn’t call for checks, members of both parties have suggested that a final proposal should include stimulus checks. 2426

(KGTV) — A local man is hoping for answers after his mother was found murdered during a girl's trip to Turks and Caicos.Marie Kuhnla, 62, set off on the trip to a Club Med resort with her two friends and fellow public defenders in New York.Rick Kuhnla Jr. told 10news his mother was excited about the trip and recalls pestering his her to take her sunscreen because she got sunburn on a previous trip.Her friends say a few days into their trip on October 14, Marie went to her room to take nap and wasn't heard from again.Her body was discovered in bushes on the edge of the resort days later. Police told her friends she had been strangled. It's difficult for her son to talk about the phone call he received about her death. 760

PETERSBURG, Florida — Back in 2016, a dog owner received a note saying, "Shut your dog up or we will."Days later, Annabelle, a three-year-old brindle pitbull terrier mix, nearly died from kidney failure.The owner says the kidney failure was caused by wet dog food laced with Acetaminophen, known best as Tylenol, which is extremely toxic to dogs. Rob McCahan says he believes the contaminated food was tossed into his yard from the alley behind his home on 44th Avenue North in St. Pete.The dog found and ate the contaminated food before the owner realized there was a bag there at all.It happened again in March 2018, and this time, Annabelle died."She was the most lovable dog in the world," says McCahan, whose cell phone is filled with photos of his beloved dog, who he rescued from a local shelter.She died after several days in the animal hospital."These people are sick. I'm just kind of confused right now. Trying to figure out who did it," adds McCahan.The second poisoning coincided with a second note left on his door that read in part: "Shut him up. Your neighbors are tired of it."McCahan says Annabelle didn't bark too much and certainly didn't bark any more than his neighbors' dogs.Just a few houses down from McCahan's, on the 700 block of 44th Avenue NE in the North East Park community of St. Pete, another dog apparently died in the exact same manner.A brown bag with poisoned food was thrown into another yard, killing an otherwise perfectly-healthy 8-year-old golden retriever, according to the pet's owner.This pet owner shared her devastating experience on social media online with her neighbors, saying their dog died this past Monday, and wanted to warn others that someone was doing this."I'm afraid for animals," she writes, adding, "My family was devastated and are still recovering. Please be aware. We're upgrading security."St. Pete Police were out in the neighborhood again Friday trying to confirm this second report of a dog's death, but have not yet been able to.Another neighbor on the same 700 block of 44th Avenue NE tells ABC Action News that his cat was found hanged about 8 months ago.  A woman who lives on nearby 43rd Avenue NE tells St. Pete Police that she has received similarly-threatening letters recently, but her pets are doing okay. A police officer who has reviewed all the letters says it's in the same handwriting.Several residents declined to speak to ABC Action News on camera out of fear that their pets would be targeted as well if they were seen speaking about their concerns.The FBI says on their website that violence against animals is a major indicator of future violence against other animals, and future violence against people, including kids.Note: We are not publishing the name of the second dog owner because we have not been able to get in touch with them yet. 2868

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he spoke with President Donald Trump from Vietnam about the Roy Moore situation, and will have "further discussions" with him when the President returns.McConnell said he believes the women who say that Moore pursued relationships with them when they were teenagers and while he was in his 30s. One woman said she was 14 years old when Moore initiated sexual contact with her. On Monday, a separate Alabama women alleged Moore sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager, and described her experience at a news conference, represented by attorney Gloria Allred."There's no question that there's a deep concern here," McConnell said Tuesday afternoon. "Roy Moore should step aside, the women who've come forward are entirely credible."Republicans across Congress have urged the GOP Alabama Senate nominee to abandon his bid, but he has shown no signs that he plans to drop out of the race. McConnell added Tuesday he has spoken about Moore with Vice President Mike Pence and White House chief of staff John Kelly.Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colorado, has said that Moore should be expelled if he ends up in the Senate -- something that requires a two-thirds majority vote and hasn't been done in 155 years. SOLANA BEACH (CNS) - A 77-year-old Solana Beach man diagnosed with dementia was reported missing Monday.Uldarico Baquero was last seen near his home in the 600 block of Nardo Avenue about 9 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.Baquero is Hispanic, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds.
