A mom in Port St. Lucie, Florida said she wants to know how her 9-year-old son wound up at the end of his bus route, miles away from home, without his bus driver noticing him fast asleep in the bus.“I understand children can fall asleep, but at the end of the route why didn’t she check?" Rebecca Council said. "Why did she drive miles and then he wakes up, he’s scared, he’s unsure of where he is. She’s alone with my child.”“I was just scared," Trevor Council said.Trevor got on the bus as normal Wednesday afternoon at Windmill Point Elementary, where he attends third grade."We put so much trust into the school system to take care of our children," Rebecca said. But then, Trevor fell asleep and missed his drop off at Newport Isles just after 3 p.m.Soon after, his mom got a frantic phone call from his stepmom saying Trevor hadn't come home from school."My heart immediately it felt like it dropped into my stomach," Rebecca said.Trevor's dad tried calling the school district and was told his bus had been running on time."The parents having to track down their child when we’re entrusting our school bus drivers with the safety of our children. We should not have to be the ones trying to track down the location of our children," Rebecca said.In the meantime, Trevor’s bus continued five miles away to the Mako soccer fields with Trevor fast asleep in a seat. He eventually woke up while the bus was parked there.“I stand up and say where was I and the bus driver was like, 'What?'" Trevor said. "She didn’t know I was still on the bus.”He said he wrote down his name for the bus driver and ended up being carted around another school’s route before being brought back to his own bus stop, just before 5 p.m.“No one bothered to call the father, the mother, stepmother, no one,” Rebecca said. After about 45 minutes, Trevor’s dad eventually got an answer from transportation.“The guy just told them he’s fine, he fell asleep," Rebecca said. But that answer isn’t enough. Rebecca said she wants to know how this happened.“I want to understand how that’s possible that the bus driver didn’t at least double check and make sure that every child was off the bus," she said.“I just don’t want it to happen to anybody else," Trevor said.St. Lucie County School District didn't respond by the end of the day Thursday to requests for comment. 2368

Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker revised his financial disclosure forms five times after being appointed to the top Justice Department role earlier this month, according to the forms, which were released Tuesday.Revisions to disclosure filings are not uncommon, but the release of Whitaker's forms comes amid pressure from government watchdog groups who raised concerns in recent days about why their requests for the documents had gone unfulfilled. The forms show that in the months before then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions hired him as chief of staff in 2017, Whitaker was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in salary from a conservative oversight group he founded in 2014.Financial records show that The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, or FACT, received nearly all of its funding from a group called DonorsTrust, whose contributors are mostly anonymous but are known to include major Republican donor Charles Koch.Whitaker was paid a total of 4,000 over 2016 and most of 2017, according to his first disclosure form.CNN has previously reported that Whitaker made a total of 7,000 while working for FACT from 2014 to 2016. This figure covers some of the same period reflected in Whitaker's newly released financial disclosure form.Whitaker's financial disclosure documents were provided to CNN by the Justice Department and American Oversight, an outside ethics watchdog group. After the forms were released Tuesday, the non-profit watchdog group Citizens for Ethics in Washington noted that Whitaker's submission was edited five times since his appointment on November 7 and said it had filed a Freedom of Information Act request for all versions of the filing.Whitaker also earned nearly ,000 from World Patent Marketing, a Florida company that was shut down by the FTC and referred to as a "scam" in court documents, in 2016, according to one of the forms.Whitaker was named as an advisory board member of the company in 2014 and was paid at least ,375 from October 2014 to February 2016, according to a payment record previously reported by CNN.Whitaker also made ,000 as a legal commentator for CNN in 2017.In a letter sent to the US Office of Government Ethics last Friday, American Oversight said the Department of Justice had not produced a copy of Whitaker's public financial disclosure reports, despite regulations requiring it to do so, and asked the ethics agency to investigate.American Oversight on Monday also released work-related emails sent by first daughter and presidential adviser Ivanka Trump from a personal email account.Three Senate Democrats filed a new lawsuit Monday challenging Trump's installation of Whitaker, who has never served in a Senate-confirmed position, as acting attorney general following the President's firing of Sessions days after the midterm elections.Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee took turns bashing him at a hearing last week, calling into question the legality of his appointment and demanding he recuse himself from the Russia investigation, which he had questioned in media appearances before joining the government.Sen. Chuck Grassley, the top Republican on the committee, has declined Democrats' request to bring Whitaker in to testify.The-CNN-Wire 3265
Almost a quarter million YETI travel mugs are being recalled over concerns about possible burns from hot liquids when the lid ejects. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the magnet slider on the YETI Rambler 20 oz travel mug with “stronghold lid” can eject when sealed, and hot liquid inside the mug can spill out. The mug was sold from October 1 through 9 and affected 15,000 units. The recall applies to mugs with the date code 34204010 and was sold in a variety of colors. The recalled mugs were not sold on Amazon, REI, Academy, ACE, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or other retailers. They were mostly sold on YETI’s website. On YETI’s website, there is information about how to return to affected mugs for a full refund.YETI reports they have received at least a couple reports of the lids ejecting, and they say no one has been injured at this time.NOTE: This article originally stated that 241,000 YETI mugs were recalled. YETI later clarified that the recall affects 15,000 mugs. 994
Airport security checkpoints can be among the worst things about air travel. Most of us would like to have the TSA Pre-Check so we can skip the long lines and the wait, but the cost to have it processed steers us away from this travel perk.If you have a trip coming up this year, there is some good news. There's a way to get a free TSA Pre-Check membership.Right now, there are at least 12 credit cards and 5 loyalty programs that will let you get a TSA Pre-Check membership for free. The credit cards include certain American Express cards, Bank of America premium rewards, Chase Sapphire and Expedia Voyager card from Citi. The loyalty programs include Marriott rewards, United Mileage Plus and Club Carlson. We found, while many of the credit cards cover the TSA Pre-Check fee outright, the loyalty programs pay for it with points. You also need to consider if there's an annual fee for the credit card and if the tradeoff is worth it.Of course anytime you sign up for a credit card and or loyalty program you'll want to read the fine print, but it could be worth your while to check out your options to save some cash, and some time, when you travel. 1199
