MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Delta Air Lines pilot from Minnesota was charged Friday with operating an aircraft under the influence of alcohol.Tests confirmed that 37-year-old Gabriel Schroeder, of Rosemont, had a blood alcohol level between 0.04% and 0.08% when detectives arrested him on a plane at the Minneapolis airport just as it started boarding for a flight to San Diego on July 20, according to the criminal complaint. The limit set by the Federal Aviation Administration is 0.04%, which is half the legal limit for driving in Minnesota.Schroder's first court date is Nov. 27. Court records don't list an attorney who could comment for him.According to the complaint, Schroeder told detectives that he'd had one beer and three vodka drinks the night before. He also admitted discarding an unopened vodka bottle that investigators found in an airport bathroom after he saw that security screening for crews had been stepped up.Delta removed Schroder from flying after his arrest. 986

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minneapolis commission says it needs more time to review a City Council amendment to dismantle the Police Department in the wake of George Floyd's death, ending the possibility of voters deciding the issue in November. The Charter Commission has expressed concern that the process to change the city's charter was being rushed. Some commissioners said they were more concerned with making the right changes rather than making them fast. The amendment would have replaced the Police Department with a "Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention" that backers said would take a more "holistic" approach. That approach hasn't been fully defined. 683

NAMPA, Idaho -- An Idaho woman decided to become a surrogate after giving birth to her son in 2018, because she wanted to give the gift of motherhood to someone else. After consulting with her husband, Emily Chrislip started the process in February 2019."We couldn't imagine what we would do without our own biological child, so we started looking into surrogacy and applied to some California agencies," Chrislip said.By September of that year, Emily was chosen as a surrogate for a couple in China. The process went as expected, up until two months before giving birth, when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic and travel restrictions were put in place."So, the plan was to get here before the due date, and we were going to let them be in the delivery room. They were going to be a part of it, see her be born. So when she was born, they were supposed to get their own room at the hospital with the baby, and my husband and I would've had our own room, and my job was done at that point," Chrislip said. But things didn't go as planned. More than four months later, Emily is still caring for the baby even though the original plan was to hand the baby off as soon as she gave birth."I actually had some people I work with ask what about the baby's parents, and I was like, 'Oh shoot I don't know what's going to happen,' and so that's what started bringing up conversations like, 'OK, what's going to happen if they can't get here?,'" Chrislip said. The biological parents had the option of having a nanny agency care for the baby until they could travel to the U.S. to pick the baby up, but instead asked Emily and her husband if they would step in and care for her.Emily says she put herself in the parent's shoes and knew she had to care for the baby."So we were like, 'well alright, we'll take care of her,' it will be a max four weeks, we can do that, and now here we are and still don't know when they'll be here," Chrislip said. The first obstacle the biological parents faced with getting to the U.S. was the travel restrictions, but now getting a flight is nearly impossible since flights from China to the U.S. have decreased to one per week.Although the future looks uncertain, Emily says she doesn't mind caring for the baby in the meantime."So, we'll keep taking care of her, keep doing what we're doing and just kind of take it a week at a time until there's something more set in stone on when they're going to be here," Chrislip said. This story was originally published by Stephanie Garibay at KIVI. 2520

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Metro Police have identified the six officers who first responded to the scene of the downtown explosion Christmas morning. City officials say these officers showed up to a "shots fired" call on 2nd Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Upon arrival, an RV on the street played a recording and countdown, saying the vehicle contained a bomb and warning everyone to leave the area. The officers helped several people evacuate before the RV exploded shortly after, around 6:30 a.m."They immediately began knocking on doors, not knowing when the bomb would go off," Chief John Drake said at a press conference Saturday night. "They didn't think of themselves...they thought of the citizens of Nashville. They saved lives today, and their heroism should be noted." Officer Brenna HoseyOfficer James LuellenOfficer Michael SiposOfficer Amanda ToppingOfficer James WellsSergeant Timothy MillerMayor John Cooper commended the officers as well. "They took swift action, directed people away, even when their own lives were in peril. This is a year we understand what first responders mean to our community time and time again." 1132
