NEW DELHI, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday called for continuous efforts to enhance the friendly relations between the two countries."In the past 60 years, China and India have overcome various difficulties in making strides forward and have gained rejuvenation," said Premier Wen when attending the celebration activities of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and India and the closing ceremony of the "Festival of China 2010 in India."Wen said that both sides have upheld the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence which they initiated together, sought good neighborliness, treated each other equally and worked for cooperation of mutual benefits, adding that these are the precious experiences obtained in the development of bilateral ties in more than half a century.The Chinese premier called on both sides to carry on the friendship generation after generation despite changes on the world arena and difficulties that may lie ahead.Wen stressed both China and India are in a key period of development, and that they should enhance political and strategic mutual trust, expand pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade and science and technology, strengthen coordination in regional and international affairs, upgrade the status and influence of developing nations, so as to make greater contributions to building a harmonious world featuring lasting peace and common prosperity.The premier meanwhile expressed his gratitude to the people on both sides who have worked hard for the success of the Festival of China in India, and wished the Indian people happiness and healthiness in the coming new year.When addressing the ceremony, Singh said China is India's biggest neighbor, and that it is a consistent diplomatic objective of India to develop ties with China.He also hailed the China-India cooperation as a cornerstone for a century of Asia, saying it also has global and strategic significance.China and India are friends, not rivals, and there is enough room in the world for China and India to develop at the same time, Singh said.He added that the two countries should jointly enhance exchanges and cooperation in a bid to make new achievements in the China-India strategic and cooperative partnership.Wen arrived here Wednesday for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Singh.

ADDIS ABABA, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union (AU) Ramtane Lamamra, and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Ethiopia Gu Xiaojie on Friday signed an agreement on the provision of aid to the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).The grant amounting to 30 million RMB, (over 4 million U.S. dollars), will be used to supply equipment and materials for AMISOM. The signing of this agreement comes in the wake of the adoption by the United Nations Security Council, on Dec. 22, of resolution 1964(2010), in which it, inter alia, requested the Secretary- General to continue to provide a logistical support package for AMISOM, for a maximum troop strength of 12,000, as called for by resolution 1863 (2009).In resolution 1964(2010), the Security Council also called on UN Member States and regional and international organizations to make direct bilateral donations in support of AMISOM.By generously providing aid to AMISOM, the People's Republic of China is responding to the call made by the United Nations Security Council and the earlier appeal by the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) for AU partners to support the ongoing efforts in Somalia, AU said in a statement. Gu Xiaojie reiterated China's continued commitment to strengthen its cooperation with the AU in the area of peace and security and to support all endeavors in this regard. He lauded AU's efforts and resolve towards the promotion of peace, security and reconciliation in Somalia.Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Lamamra stated said that "China has, over the years, been providing multifaceted assistance to the AU and African countries as they strive to address the many challenges facing the continent. BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) announced Monday that it will guide the nation's banks to a scientific pace of lending this year as it stressed bank loans should better serve the real economy.The CBRC said in a statement on its website that it will also expand and improve financial services in the country's rural areas and encourage banks to support borrowing activities from small-sized companies.The CBRC said it will carry out more studies in stepping up support for the country's affordable housing program, which aims to build 10 million affordable housing units for low and middle income residents this year.The commission also said it will continue to implement the differentiated home loan policy adopted last year, under which bank loans for third home purchases are suspended and down payments for all first-time home buyers are at least 30 percent of the purchase price, while second home buyers will have to pay an even higher amount of down payments, at 50 percent.Further, the CBRC said it would tighten controls over lending to local government's financing vehicles in order to ward off risks.Government data showed new yuan-denominated lending in China reached 7.95 trillion yuan (about 1.2 trillion U.S. Dollars) last year, overshooting the government's full-year target of 7.5 trillion yuan.

NANJING, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- A kindergarten teacher who reportedly burned seven children using a hot iron on Tuesday has been detained for 10 days by police and fired from her teaching position in east China's Jiangsu Province, said local authorities on Saturday.The teacher, surnamed Yi, 30, of Banqiao Kindergarten of Xinghua City, said that "she did not know the iron was still hot when she used it to discipline the children," according to information released at a press conference held by the city government.The seven children were slightly burned on the face. The burns are expected to fade without treatment within two weeks and probably will not leave scars, according to doctors at Xinghua City People's Hospital.As of Saturday, two children had returned to class, one dropped out of this kindergarten, two remained at home resting and two are seeking treatment in east China's Shanghai Municipality, according to information released at the press conference.Further, the municipal police detained Yi for 10 days and fined her 500 yuan (75 U.S. dollars).The kindergarten owner apologized at the press conference and fired Yi.As for Yi's using an iron because she did not think the iron was still hot, many people did not believe this and posted threads online, such as "How could you still think the iron is not hot since you burned seven kids."But the police believe Yi did not foresee such consequences.Dai Yongjian with the city public security bureau, said the iron had been unplugged from the socket for over ten minutes before burning the children, according to Yi's co-workers."Yi had treated children well before the incident, according to our talks with the kindergarten owners, teachers and children' s parents," said Dai.The students' faces did not show any injuries until that afternoon, said Dai.Yang Qiuhong, mother of one injured child, named Wang Junhua, said , "I was angry at first, but now I forgive Yi and the kindergarten since Yi used to treat my child well and after this incident, the head of the kindergarten came to my home right away and took my child to the hospital."The police believed that Yi lacked necessary medical knowledge and did not seek treatment for the children immediately after their faces began to show signs of being burned.Yi was said to "regret her actions very much", according to Wu Gang, deputy chief of the municipal Education Bureau.Yi does not have a preschool teacher certificate, which is quite common in Xinghua City, since only 40 percent of the 1,600 kindergarten teachers have such certificates, said Wu.According to the regulation issued by the Jiangsu Provincial Government, such a certificate is required for some kindergarten posts, such as the head of the kindergarten and medical personnel. Others have to acquire such certificate within three years after working at a kindergarten.Banqiao Kindergarten is a private school established in 2000.Also, Banqiao Kindergarten is a popular kindergarten and many parents line up to have their children enrolled there, said Wu.
