A man walked into a California police department Monday and told officers he had killed four people, police say.One of the bodies was in the car the suspect drove to the Mt. Shasta Police Department. His three other victims were in his apartment more than 200 miles away, Roseville Police Department Captain Josh Simon said in a Monday news conference.Roseville officers learned of the man's confession around noon, when they received a call from Mt. Shasta police, who detained the suspect after he came in.Roseville is about 20 miles from Sacramento and about 212 miles from Mt. Shasta.This is an ongoing investigation in coordination with the Mt. Shasta police department, Simon said, adding police don't believe the quadruple homicide was a random act. The suspects and the victim likely knew each other, police said.Police did not identify the suspect or the victims."The sole suspect involved in this incident is in custody and we do not believe there is any ongoing threat to our community," he said.The killings, he said, will likely take a toll on the Roseville community."This can really have an effect on all our first responders and people who may or may not know these victims. A man opened fire outside a federal courthouse in Dallas on Monday before he was shot and killed by federal officers, authorities said.No officers or other citizens were injured in the shooting on the south side of the Earle Cabell Federal Building, police said.The gunman, identified as Brian Isaack Clyde, 22, was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead, according to FBI special agent in charge Matthew J. DeSarno.DeSarno said during a Monday afternoon press conference that Clyde was discharged from the Army in 2017. The FBI is working with the Department of Defense "to examine his record and identify any associates," DeSarno said. The shooter's firearm was also recovered and federal authorities are trying to trace the gun's origins and how the shooter obtained it.DeSarno also said the suspect had more than five 40-round magazines on him. Jeanine Sherman's first thought on weight loss surgery was similar to a common perception: it's the easy way out or a last-resort method to lose weight. “And I thought, ‘really? Bariatric surgery? Am I to that point?’” she says. At 5-foot-5-inches tall and around 230 pounds, Sherman’s primary care doctor told her she was a candidate when she asked about weight loss medication. At the time, Sherman had a very high BMI but no other weight-related health issues. For three years, Sherman researched ways she could avoid surgery. “If I copy this lifestyle, live the lifestyle of a bariatric patient and if I learned their daily eating habits, their exercise habits, well then I can lose the weight and not have bariatric surgery,” she recalls thinking. After gaining 30 additional pounds, Sherman decided surgery was best. “I tell anybody that I talk to that, that day is one of the top ten days of my life,” she says. Maintaining her weight around 143 pounds now, Sherman found her voice through the hashtag #iamabariatricpatient. “Many patients were ashamed to talk about the surgery and didn’t want to share that they had surgery with friends or family,” Sherman says. QUICKSBURG, Va. – With a push of a button, 40,000 square feet seemingly come to life to show off America’s love affair with parades. “Every parade float tells a story,” said Joe Proctor, general manager of the American Celebration on Parade. Nestled in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, it’s a retirement village of sorts – for some of the largest floats of America’s most iconic parades. “Most people have no clue or no idea how big these parade floats are,” Proctor said. “Some of these or as long as 80 feet long and also go up to heights of over 30 feet.” Proctor grew up at the museum – literally. His father was once the general manager. Now, he runs the place. “I always felt a special love in my heart, like there was something in that,” he said. “I was a part of something very special.” So how did it all come to be here? Back in the 1940s, a man named Earl Hargrove was designing storefront window displays in Washington, D.C. His work caught the eye of President Harry Truman, who asked him to design a float for his inauguration parade. And the rest is history: Hargrove’s floats have appeared in every presidential inauguration parade since then. “We have a parade float that came out of Ronald Reagan's inauguration that's over 65 feet long and about 30 feet tall,” Proctor said. That’s not all: their floats have appeared in the Tournament of Roses Parade and Thanksgiving Day, among others. “Earl Hargrove loved parade floats,” Proctor said. “He loved decorating. And each year the parade floats kept getting bigger.” Hargrove couldn’t bear to get rid of them, so he built the museum to house them. We had the place all to ourselves on one December day, but during the summer, tens of thousands of people make their way there to see the lights, sounds and plenty of glitter. “He used to put glitter on lots of different things because he loved the flash,” Proctor said. Earl Hargrove passed away several years ago, but he ensured his decades of work remained ready to roll and show off a time-honored American tradition.
