On Sunday, May 19, 2019 at approximately 3 a.m. LVMPD officers working at EDC observed from a distance an adult male, later identified as Elliott, push a security officer to the ground. Two officers approached and placed Elliott into handcuffs while they investigated the incident. (AP) — False claims are spreading online about an election tech company this week after many social media users interpreted a clerk's error in Michigan as vote-rigging because it wrongly favored Joe Biden before being fixed. Posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram claim without evidence that prominent Democrats have deep ties to Dominion Voting Systems, the company that supplies election equipment to Michigan and at least 30 states nationwide. Claims that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and the Clinton Foundation have interest or influence in Dominion are all unsubstantiated. Dominion did not respond to a request for comment on these claims.Dominion made a one-time philanthropic commitment at a Clinton Global Initiative meeting in 2014, but the Clinton Foundation has no stake or involvement in Dominion’s operations, the nonprofit confirmed to the AP. A former aide to Pelosi has represented Dominion as a lobbyist, but so have lobbyists who worked for Republicans. Claims that Feinstein’s husband, Richard Blum, holds a stake in Dominion are baseless. When Michigan’s Antrim County initially reported a landslide win for Biden, social media users grew suspicious about the Dominion. As it turned out, Dominion was not to blame, according to the Michigan Department of State. “There was no malice, no fraud here, just human error,” County Clerk Sheryl Guy told the AP.The issue was quickly corrected, and President Donald Trump won a majority of votes in that county. 1517

"I commend special investigator William Forsythe and the dedicated members of the Attorney General's office and the Michigan State Police who worked long and hard on this investigation. The findings in this report are deeply, deeply disturbing and the stories of the survivors are heartbreaking — but the callous disregard Michigan State University continued to show the victims and this special investigator absolutely infuriates me. The culture of indifference the University has displayed throughout this investigation is a pervasive poison that appears to have seeped into every corner of that campus. No institution — including that of Michigan State University — is above the law. I am committed to using my role as Michigan's Attorney General to do whatever we must to bring justice and honor to the survivors, which includes continuing any aspects of the investigation which require further action." 916

With each mass shooting, the political discussion turns to background checks. The law can vary depending on several factors. One thing many Americans wonder is: how do these background checks work? When you buy a gun from a federally licensed seller, you’ll almost always have to submit to a background check.Once you pick out the gun you want to buy, you fill out paperwork. It’ll ask the usual: name, address and birthday. But the application also asks about criminal history, substance use and mental health. Lying on that application is a felony that can come with major fines and incarceration.Once the application is filled out, the gun seller submits it to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS. It scans three databases for information and usually gives an answer within minutes."Approved" means the seller can move ahead. "Canceled" or "denied" would stop a potential sale. But the result could also be “delayed." That means the FBI has three days to further investigate before giving an answer. If the seller doesn’t hear anything within three days, they are legally able to sell the applicant a gun. Some say that’s an issue with the system.Gun sellers can also turn away sales if they feel uncomfortable about the way a potential buyer is acting or talking.State laws can be different and, sometimes, trump federal law.Critics say the whole system falls short. They point out a denied check — and sale — doesn’t stop the person from trying to buy a gun in other ways. 1514
