BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) chairman Liu Mingkang has urged the banking sector to closely watch the impact of the turbulent international financial environment against the domestic financial market and improve capabilities of risk management.     Speaking at a recent CBRC meeting focusing on the economic and financial situation in the third quarter, he demanded the country's banking sector learn lessons from the U.S. financial crisis and take measures to raise competitiveness.     He outlined several major missions for the country's banking sector:     -- implementing macro-economic control policies and making all-out efforts in pushing reform and renovation of the financial system in rural areas.     -- continuing to focus on credit risk control and precautions.     -- strengthening risk control on overseas investment and actively facing the challenges of turbulence in the international market.     -- improving internal management.     -- summing up lessons and experience from the global financial crisis and adjusting operating concepts and methods.     Liu added the CBRC would enhance its supervision and management on risk and safeguard a stable and healthy development of the country's banking sector

BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top legislator, Wu Bangguo, met here Wednesday with visiting speaker of the Slovak National Council, Pavol Paska, calling on the two sides to step up inter-parliamentary cooperation to further boost bilateral relations.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, highlighted China-Slovakia relations, noting that the ties already entered into a phase of development.     Citing Slovakia as one of the fastest growing member states in the European Union (EU) and China as the biggest developing country in the world, Wu said that the two share a solid foundation for further cooperation. Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress(NPC), meets with Pavol Paska, the speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China, on Nov. 19, 2008    He added, China is willing to explore new approaches to expand cooperation in an aim to optimize the two-way trade structure and increase mutual understanding between the two businesses.     "We should give full play to the two business communities and help them promote bilateral trade relations to a higher level," Wu said.     Paska said that Slovakia attaches great importance to its ties with China and hopes to learn China's successful ways of boosting national development. It also wants to forge cooperation with China in fields such as infrastructure.     He noted that Slovakia, as a new EU member state, is willing to play a role of bridging the EU-China strategic partnership for further development, reiterating that Slovak parliament and government will continue to cohere to the one-China policy.     The two sides also exchanged their views on inter-parliamentary cooperation, agreeing to push forward collaboration among parliamentary special groups and exchanges of the young parliament members in an effort to generate contribution to the new growth of the bilateral relations.     Paska arrived here Monday for a 5-day visit to China as Wu's guest.

LIMA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Saturday that the central government would take effective measures to help Hong Kong to ward off the impact of the global financial crisis, safeguard the stability of financial markets and boost economic growth.     Hu made the remarks during a meeting with Donald Tsang, chief executive of the the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of China.     Hu expressed his belief that as long as the HKSAR government and people from all circles could be united, the region would maintain its long-term prosperity and stability.     Donald Tsang briefed the president on his government's efforts in dealing with the current financial crisis and voiced his appreciation for the central government's support to Hong Kong. Chinese President Hu Jintao (2nd R) and his wife Liu Yongqing (1st R) meet with Donald Tsang Yam-kuen (2nd L), chief executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and his wife Selina Tsang in Lima, capital of Peru, Nov. 22, 2008. Hu Jintao and Donald Tsang Yam-kuen are in Lima to attend the Economic Leaders' Informal Meeting of the APEC forum slated for Nov. 22-23.    The HKSAR government would continue to make efforts to safeguard the financial and economic stability in the region, the Hong Kong chief said.     Hu also said China went through a lot of big events and difficulties this year, in which Hong Kong compatriots always stood together and shared weal and woe with the people on the mainland.     Hu spoke highly of the disaster-relief efforts provided by the Hong Kong SAR government and people after the May. 12 earthquake to southwest China's Sichuan Province, saying that they had made contributions to the success of China's quake-relief work.     The president said Hong Kong has also successfully completed the task of co-organizing the equestrian competition event of the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games.     The central government would always support Hong Kong and Macao SAR in coping with and overcoming various difficulties, President Hu told the Hong Kong chief.     Both Hu and Tsang are in the Peruvian capital of Lima to attend the 16th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

  

BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao returned to Beijing Saturday night from a trilateral summit between China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK).     In a half-day meeting in Japan's Fukuoka, Wen, his Japanese counterpart Taro Aso and ROK President Lee Myung-bak discussed trilateral ties, the ongoing global financial crisis and other issues of common concern.     Before the meeting, Wen met Lee and Aso respectively, and discussed bilateral relations with them.     They issued a joint statement on tripartite partnership relations after the meeting.

  

BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping urged officials with the Communist Party of China (CPC) to play more important roles when dealing with the international financial crisis.     Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark during a conference Tuesday.     Xi asked officials to make public promises that they would better implement their duties to Party members and non-party people.     The official also urged Party officials to carry out the central government's policies designed to keep steady economic growth and improve the people's lives using practical measures.
