A judge has held Chelsea Manning in contempt and she is being detained, her lawyer says."As everybody knows, Chelsea has tremendous courage. Our primary concern at this point is her health while she is confined and we will be paying close attention," Manning's attorney, Moira Meltzer-Cohen, told reporters outside a federal courthouse in Virginia.Manning can be held for the term of the grand jury and not longer than 18 months, Meltzer-Cohen said. Asked if Manning was prepared to stay imprisoned for 18 months, Meltzer-Cohen said "we are not there yet." Meltzer-Cohen added that it was "quite likely" they would appeal the order.Manning refused to answer questions about her 2010 public disclosures of military and diplomatic secrets before a grand jury earlier this week. Her presence before the grand jury this week suggests prosecutors continue to investigate and pursue charges against Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.Manning is a former Army intelligence analyst who spent nearly seven years imprisoned after she was arrested for the massive leak to WikiLeaks. She was sentenced to 35 years in prison, but that was commuted by President Barack Obama in 2017.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. All rights reserved. 1283

A 4.9-magnitude earthquake was reported near Ridgecrest, California, on Friday morning -- one week after a 7.1-magnitude temblor struck Southern California, the US Geological Survey said. The region was originally hit on July 4 with a 6.4 earthquake, followed by a 7.1-magnitude quake the following day.The latest moderate earthquake briefly rattled CNN's Los Angeles bureau.Last week's major earthquake was centered 11 miles northeast of Ridgecrest, the USGS said. It unleashed 11 times the amount of energy of the previous day's quake, also centered near Ridgecrest, said CNN Meteorologist Brandon Miller.Though area residents are used to earthquakes, the tremor last Friday night swayed buildings and cracked streets and foundations, sending terrified locals into the streets. The shaking was felt as far away as Mexico and Las Vegas, according to the USGS.Ridgecrest, a desert town, is home to 28,000 people. The region at one point saw an average of one aftershock per minute since Friday's quake, according to the US Geological Survey website.More than 4,700 quakes have occurred since July 4, said USGS geophysicist John Bellini.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Trump administration’s coronavirus task force has announced strict new guidelines in an effort to restrict the spread of COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus. President Donald Trump said Monday that his administration is recommending the following: – Schooling from home, if possible – Avoiding gatherings of more than 10 people – Avoiding discretionary travel, shopping trips and social visits – And, avoiding bars, restaurants and food courts The White House is also recommending that older people and those with underlying health conditions “stay home and away from other people” as it continues to step up efforts to halt the pandemic. These guidelines are part of a campaign that the administration is calling, “15 days to slow the spread.”Specifically, the task force pleaded for millennials, America’s largest generation, to limit their interactions with others. “They are the core group that will stop this virus,” said Dr. Deborah Birx, the coordinator of the task force. “They are the group that communicates successfully, independent of picking up a phone.”Dr. Birx said millennials intuitively know how to contact each other without being in large social gatherings.“We’re asking all of them to hold their gatherings under 10 people. Not just in bars and restaurants, but in homes,” said Dr. Birx. “We really want people to be separated at this time. Because we don’t have a vaccine or a therapy to address the virus, Dr. Birx says the only thing we have at our disposal is the ingenuity and compassion of the American people. “We’re appealing to all Americans to take these steps, to protect each other,” said Dr. Birx. The White House is also advising governors in states with evidence of community transmission to close schools and says that states with evidence of community spread should close restaurants, bars, gyms, and other venues where people gather. Dr. Anthony Fauci says these guidelines will be in effect for about the next 15 days. Clarifying an earlier comment from Trump, Dr. Fauci said the virus could be present in the U.S. in a major way through July or August. Additionally, the administration is alleging that a foreign disinformation campaign is underway aiming to stoke fear amid the coronavirus pandemic. Three U.S. officials said Monday that federal officials began confronting what they said was a deliberate effort by a foreign entity to sow fear of a nationwide quarantine. The three U.S. officials did not name the foreign entity they believe to be responsible. They spoke 2557

A contractor says the man suspected of killing a University of Utah student who vanished nearly two weeks ago had asked him to build a secret soundproof room in his home.Ayoola Ajayi, 31, was arrested Friday in connection with the disappearance of 23-year-old Mackenzie Lueck. He's expected to be charged with her murder and several other counts including, aggravated kidnapping, police have said. The contractor, Brian Wolf, told CNN he met with Ajayi at his Salt Lake City home for a consult on some drywall work. Ajayi's house is five miles from the park where the college student was last seen. When Wolf arrived, he said, Ajayi asked him to build a room with a secret door before his Mormon girlfriend arrived in town.Wolf said Ajayi wanted to install a thumb scanner on the room's entrance so he would be the only person allowed to enter. The room had to be soundproof with a few hooks installed up high, Wolf said.Ajayi told Wolf he wanted to listen to music as loud as he could and wanted to install a wine-rack on the hooks, Wolf recalled. The contractor, who had been referred by a plumber, said he became nervous by Ajayi's requests."People ask me to build all kind of stuff all the time, but nothing like this. This was just way too weird," Wolf said.He ended up declining the job."I just had a gut feeling it wasn't a job I wanted to do," Wolf said."The pieces just didn't add up in my head. Obviously, I'm happy I had nothing to do with it."The visit took place a few months ago, 1503
