OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Police say a Navy veteran who was sentenced last year to nearly a decade in prison for abusing his neighbors' dogs may be released early because of the pandemic.David C. Herbert was convicted in 2018 and sentenced last year to nine years and eight months in prison on six counts of animal cruelty, one count of burglary and four misdemeanor counts of vandalism for harming two separate families' dogs, one of which remains missing.Oceanside Police say Herbert was scheduled for parole in February 2021 but could be released earlier under criteria set by the state because of the coronavirus.RELATED: Oceanside man who tortured neighbor's dogs sentenced to 10 years"Neither the Oceanside Police Department, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office nor the victims were consulted prior to this decision being made, and the Oceanside Police Department does not have any involvement and/or influence in such a decision," the department said in a release.In April, California adopted criteria after the pandemic hit to protect those who work and live at prisons by issuing expedited releases for thousand of prisoners serving sentences for non-violent offenses, who do not have to register as a sex offender, and who had 60 days or less to serve.Three months later, the state expanded the criteria for thousands of offenders who had 180-days or less to serve; and hundreds who had less than one year to serve who reside at facilities with large populations of medically high-risk patients. (KGTV) -- Three suspects were arrested Monday after reportedly shooting and injuring three women at an Oceanside shopping center.Police say Anthony Tua, 19, Deshune Bryant, 18, and a 16-year-old juvenile were all arrested for the shooting.Investigators don’t believe the victims were the intended targets because the suspects reportedly shot into a large group of people. The shooting appears to be gang motivated, according to police.RELATED: Three women injured in Oceanside shooting  The shooting took place on the 3700 block of Mission Avenue at 5:15 p.m. Sunday.According to police, three women were in the front of a clothing store when three black men suddenly came up to them before shooting. OAKLAND, Tenn. – A dog that recently turned 20 years old is believed to be the oldest living golden retriever in the world.The retriever, named August or “Augie,” lives in Oakland, Tennessee, with her owners, Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt.The Hetterscheidts adopted Augie when she was 14 from the Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada, which Jennifer co-founded before retiring and moving to Tennessee.On April 24, the family celebrated Augie’s 20th birthday, a major milestone, because experts say the average golden retriever lives to be about 10 to 12 years old.They went all out for the celebration, giving Augie a special carrot cake and having a banner made to wish her a happy birthday. She was also surrounded by the family’s three other retrievers, whose ages range between 7 and 10.As Augie got older, Jennifer told the Today Show that she did a little research to see what the age was of the oldest golden retriever. She came across the GoldenHeart Golden Retriever Rescue’s website, which said the oldest was believed to be 19 years old.
