SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a door-to-door solicitor who has prompted a string of complaints about threatening outbursts and who was seen on video taking swings at a woman in Pacific Beach.Corey Lamont Terry, 45, is wanted on felony charges of making criminal threats and attempted burglary, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. A warrant for his arrest was issued earlier this month, according to the Sheriff’s Department website.Police have been investigating Terry since at least early November, after “several” people complained about Terry’s aggressive language while soliciting money door-to-door, according to SDPD Lt. Shawn Takeuchi.Takeuchi urged the public to call their local police agency if they spot Terry, who is about 6 feet tall and weighs roughly 220 pounds. He said residents should not approach him based on his past behavior.Terry has canvassed neighborhoods in Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach in recent weeks, claiming he is raising money for charity. But several people told 10News he becomes aggressive when his requests for funds are denied. In one case, Sarah Jarzabek said Terry threatened to kill her after she declined his requests for money.VIDEO: Woman records confrontation with man claiming to be charity worker"He chases me across the street, screaming that he's going to kill me," Jarzabek told 10News last month. She recorded video of a man police identified as Terry lunging and swinging at her Nov. 2."Scared to death, honestly," she said.10News obtained video of San Diego police detaining Terry Nov. 3. He was questioned and let go at the time. The warrant for his arrest was issued Dec. 6.RELATED: Police question solicitor seen swinging at Pacific Beach woman“It’s a little bit concerning he’s still out there,” said John Christenson, an Ocean Beach resident who said he encountered the then-unidentified solicitor at his home Oct. 16.“Basically said that he did want to knock me out, was getting in my face, calling me all kinds of names,” Christenson recounted. “Finally he did leave but not before spitting in my face.”Mark Brown, who lives about a half mile away, said he also encountered the confrontational solicitor.“He took a couple steps towards me, but he didn’t swing on me. Just cussing me out,” Brown said. Brown said the man told him something chilling. “‘Hope you die tonight.’ That was his quote.” 2441

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County will expand enforcement efforts to track down businesses knowingly operating in violation of the current public health order. After a bit of a lengthy back and forth, the board of supervisors voted unanimously to expand the current enforcement team.Currently, the county’s newly developed Safe Reopening Compliance Team focuses on egregious cases, outbreaks, and complaints. There are only ten staff members presently on the team, 13 more will be added on during phase one to continue looking into egregious cases and outbreak investigations.A Healthy Compliance Call Center also went live, where members of the public can report violations of the public health order by calling (858) 694- 2900.Tuesday’s vote to include a phase two will add 22 staff members at .8 million to follow up with businesses or entities that are still operating in violation of the public health order. The funding will come from the CARES Act.Two other enforcement options were on the table for supervisors consider, but they were voted down by the majority.Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer, has already sent several letters ordering businesses to close down until they comply with the order.A handful of gyms and churches in the county have stayed open inside despite being ordered to close or move their operations outdoors. This week the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office filed five misdemeanor charges against a Ramona gym owner for failing to comply. 1505

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria says the city's convention center shelter for the homeless will be funded through at least the first month of 2021.Gloria said in a release that he's directing staff to provide funding using money previously slated for shelter operations in November and December that wasn't spent due to cost-saving measures and other factors, as well as a state grant specifically for funding homelessness-related services."I am committed to protecting our homeless neighbors from COVID-19 while keeping a focus on connecting them to long-term housing," Gloria said. "A temporary extension for this shelter will allow us to serve the greatest number of people in need with daily health screenings and other COVID protections."RELATED: New questions over cost of convention center shelterCOVID-19 cases surge at Convention Center shelterGloria added that he's proposing the city authorize more funding through March 2021, with plans to continue helping those at the shelter transition into permanent housing or into another shelter by that time. Those financial plans could be discussed by the City Council in January. The city's downtown convention center shelter began in April to shelter hundreds of people experiencing homelessness as the coronavirus pandemic began. Since then, the city says its Operation Shelter to Home program has helped more than 870 people and 45 families find a permanent or longer-term housing solution, with more than 200 others in the process of finding housing.RELATED: San Diego officials say Convention Center homeless shelter helped over 1,100 find housingPart of the program's goal was also to move people experiencing homelessness into one location where they could adequately space out and centralize staff from various city shelters during the pandemic. This month, the shelter has seen an increase in positive COVID-19 tests as virus cases surge across the county and state. Since April, more than 11,200 coronavirus tests have been given at the shelter to residents and staff. The shelter has seen a total of 190 positive tests, including 170 residents and 20 volunteers or staff members, according to the city. Those residents who test positive are immediately moved from the shelter to an off-site hotel managed by the county for public health use. 2326

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County has seen two flu deaths and more than twice the unusual number of illnesses so far this season, health officials reported Wednesday. County Health and Human Services officials said the number of confirmed flu cases is more than double the past three-year average, putting this year on par with the severe 2017-2018 flu season. Seventy-seven San Diego County residents died of flu complications last season. Almost 10,000 became ill. More than 235 cases of flu were confirmed by Sept. 28, compared to 67 at this time last flu season. “People should get vaccinated now to avoid getting sick and infecting others,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “The vaccine is safe and effective and is available throughout the region.” The flu shot is recommended for everyone over six months old. It takes about two weeks for immunity to develop, according to health officials. Anyone who needs the vaccine and does not have health insurance can go to a County public health center. For a list of locations, call 22 or visit the San Diego Immunization Program website. 1129

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County officials are warning that the county could move into a lower, more restrictive COVID-19 tier, but explained if it does happens the shift wouldn't happen overnight. In just one week, San Diego County's COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 residents is up from 5.8 to 6.9. The positivity rate is also up from 3.4% to 4.2%.These two metrics determine whether or not the county moves up or down on the state's new colored tier system. The positivity rate is low enough to move the county from the red to a less restrictive, orange tier. The case per thousand rate is moving the county closer to going from red to purple, the tier with the most restrictions. County officials explain moving up or down from a tier would only happen if there were two consecutive weeks of data in one specific tier. The increased positive cases among students at San Diego State University could have an impact on the state's increasing numbers. As of Wednesday night, there are 440 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and four probable cases. Just last week, the campus only had 20 cases. On Wednesday the county also talked about a discrepancy with testing data, saying the state is not getting the county's correct testing numbers. Dr. Wilma Wooten couldn't say how many tests aren't being recorded properly but says the county is working with the state to resolve the issue in the next two weeks. Case counts will now be updated by the state every Tuesday and the county says they will provide those numbers the following day on Wednesdays each week. 1563
