SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sunday, doctors revealed President Donald Trump is taking a steroid, called Dexamethasone, as the latest medication for his coronavirus treatment."We just don't know what's going to happen next, things are very unpredictable," Dr. Christian Ramers, Chief of Population Health at Family Health Centers, said.Ramers has seen thousands of COVID-19 patients and says the disease has two phases, virus production and inflammatory. He said the shift generally happens seven to ten days in."Once things kind of shift, the damage actually comes more from the immune system's response than the virus itself," Ramers said, which is why a steroid like Dexamethasone is prescribed."Where it showed a decrease in mortality was in people who already required oxygen or if they were even sicker than that and were on ventilation," said Ramers, citing a study.Sunday, doctors stated the president received oxygen Friday before being taken to Walter Reed Medical Center, but said his oxygen levels only dipped to 94% and 93%. Normal levels are 95% and above.Ramers said studies show if you give the steroid too early or to someone who has a mild case, it could cause harm. "If you dial down the immune system too early or in a case that is really mild, you might have the opposite effect you're looking for," Ramers said.There's also a list of side effects."If you use them for a chronic basis or for more than a couple of days there is a long list of things it can cause. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man accused of killing his wife in their City Heights apartment appeared in court Tuesday. Bail was set at million at the arraignment for Abdiaziz Kerow, 45, who was arrested in Panama on March 20 and extradited to San Diego.Kerow is accused of killing his 36-year-old wife, Muna Salad Kuri. Kuri’s sister found the victim’s body in a bed in the couple’s home on the 4000 block of Van Dyke Avenue on March 4. Hundreds of Kuri's family members as well as members of the community attended the arraignment. So many people showed up, the courtroom was unable to accommodate the crowd. The victim's sister, Amiina Salad said her sister was "sweet, humble, she's funny. She's always there for you, no matter what happens, she's there."Salad also had a message for Kerow. "My sister is in heaven. You're going to rot in here and you're going to rot in hellfire.''Somali community leader says this is the first time domestic violence death that has affected a Somali woman in their San Diego community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The message from nurses and caregivers Tuesday morning was clear, "it's a question of priorities for entire healthcare system." Frustration and anger built after a 27-month contract renewal was signed by Palomar Health's CEO, Diane Hansen. The contract details a base salary close to million, with potential of earning bonuses, increasing that amount. Frontline workers argue that because COVID-19 led to an increase of patients, and layoffs of caregivers and nurses, "the board should have invested in resources and more protective equipment. Some of the PPE is not even medical grade, and everyone who's been laid off should be brought back," said representative for California's nurses association, Sarah Gurling. Gurling joined other reps and nurses in a protest at Palomar Medical Center, arguing funds should have been allocated towards other resources within their facilities."Caregivers and nurses are the heart of the hospital. We know what's best for patients and each other. The hospital executives and the Palomar board has lost sight of that." Meahwhile, Palomar's health board chair, Richard Engel, stands behind his decision. He said Hansen has done a tremendous job and credits much of the hospital's success through her work. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The family of the man killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 Monday morning says the California Highway Patrol got it wrong. According to them, their brother - Justin Callahan - was a driver, but not the driver who caused the crash. RELATED: Driver killed, 2 hurt in wrong-way crash on I-5On Monday CHP told 10News the following: Just before 2 a.m. Monday, a Volkswagon Jetta was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Inerstate 8 from Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. As CHP officers responded, the Jetta entered the northbound Interstate 5 transition ramp to the westbound I-8 in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a Toyota Camry.An SUV then crashed into the back of the Camry, the CHP said.The driver of the Jetta was 35-year-old Justin Callahan, who was declared dead at the scene. Justin's family says he usually drives home from work at the time and would have been traveling in the opposite direction - from Chula Vista to his home in Ocean Beach. Based on that information, they tell 10News the CHP's report just doesn't add up. "It doesn't make any sense," his brother, Tommy Villafranca, said.  "Why would he get back on the freeway and get back the opposite direction?"And if Callahan did turn around and got back on the freeway, the timing doesn't add up,  his brother said.  He says his work caught on security video leaving at 1:38 a.m. and the crash happened less than 20 minutes later."It takes 21 minutes just to get from his work to Sunset Cliffs Boulevard," Villafranca said.   "He’s still got to turn around go back, and that would take even more time, so the timeline is not working at all."The family has created a GoFundMe to help them pay for arrangements necessary to get Callahan back to Wheatland, California and arrange a funeral. "Justin was an artist and an inspiration to the people around him," James O'Callahan wrote on the GoFundMe page. "At this point I am too broken up inside to write anything worth reading. Please share a story you have about him in the comments."In the comments, Stevie Workman wrote: "Justin, was my neighboor down stairs while I was in college. We had great times!!
