BALTIMORE, Md. - A picture is worth a thousand words. It's a cliche saying but it's true.Many times when you look at a picture, it takes you back to that exact moment in time. That's what a local artist focuses on doing for people to capture their memories.Shawn Parsons has been painting his entire life and sells his work but sometimes he gives away a piece of his artwork.Over the winter, he painted a picture of a pet after his coworker's dog died."The overwhelming joy was so huge for me when I left there I thought maybe there’s something about painting someone else’s memories," said Parsons. "It was such a cool feeling for me to give something to someone where the emotion was so high I continued to do it."So he painted a few more and gave them away.This pandemic put a different twist on things for Parsons. His friend, Erin Millon, asked if he would paint a picture for her son's birthday. It was just another project that turned into a movement.Parsons painted a picture for her son, McCabe, of him playing lacrosse. McCabe made the varsity lacrosse team at McDonogh High School as a freshman but his season was canceled."We were able to play two games and then everything shut down," said McCabe. "It hurt a lot, still does. One of the worst parts about it was seeing how much the seniors lost and knowing how much they care and how much they’ve been working all fall, all winter."McCabe was blown away by Parsons' painting, he wanted others to feel what he did. BETHLEHEM, West Bank (AP) — Pilgrims from around the world flocked to Bethlehem on Monday for what was believed to be the biblical West Bank city's largest Christmas celebrations in years.Hundreds of locals and foreign visitors milled in Manger Square as bagpipe-playing Palestinian Scouts paraded past a giant Christmas tree. "There's no better place to be as a Christian, it takes me back to all the rich stories I heard growing up. BALTIMORE, Marlyland — A mother living without her teenage son who was shot and killed last year got to meet the girl whose life he saved with his heart.    Xavier Young was an organ donor.Although lost to gun violence, his gift saved more than one life — it saved an entire family."I think he really wanted me to see that he’s OK and his heart is also still going," said Jennifer Young.Young is Xavier's mother. He was 14 years old when he was shot and killed in Laurel, Maryland last year."We buried him a year ago back on (November 6) so this week has been really tough," Young said.But in darkness, there is a little light as Young met the girl who now holds her son's heart."My son would’ve loved to meet her in life and would’ve heard about her all the time so it’s bittersweet to me," said Young.For Gwendolyn Ihm's family, it was an emotional and humbling meeting."As we celebrate Gwendolyn’s heart transplant, we also have to remember that at that same time there’s another family that are remembering another year of not having their loved one with them," said Brian Ihm, whose daughter now has Young's heart.Ihm was diagnosed with leukemia before she was just 2 months old and the radiation wreaked havoc on her heart."Without Xavier’s heart Gwendolyn would not be at school, she would not be running around, she would not be able to participate like all the kids," Ihm said.Young heard her son's heart beating inside of Gwen."It’s not really him. It’s a piece, and that’s amazing too," said Young.The families have spoken but never met. "I just feel like they remind me so much of him. It’s like he went back to family is what I want to say," Young told WMAR.Xavier was able to donate seven organs and save five lives after his death last November."Without the help of God, maybe Jennifer (Young) wouldn't have made the decision that she made," said Ihm.The hope is for Gwen to be a normal 13-year-old."We just want her to have a couple of good years of health," Ihm said, "and Xavier’s gift has given us that." 2126

Brookstone filed for bankruptcy and will close its remaining 101 mall stores.The mall and airport seller, best known for massage chairs, quirky gadgets, and travel luggage, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in federal court on Thursday. It was Brookstone's second bankruptcy filing in four years.The company will keep its 35 airport stores and website open and running while it attempts to find a buyer. It has secured a million loan to finance operations during the sale.Brookstone's CEO said in a statement that its airport and online businesses were successful, but an "extremely challenging retail environment at malls" forced the company to close its stores there.Unabated traffic losses at malls have plagued brick-and-mortar sellers. Mall vacancies reached a six-year high last quarter as a wave of stores closed, including Walgreens, Bon-Ton, Sears and Kmart, Best Buy, Kay and Jared, Matress Firm, and GNC."They're trapped in hundreds of these B and C malls, whose traffic has been in serial decline," said Mark Cohen, the director of retail studies at Columbia Business School. "Where they are in triple-A malls, they're faced with very high rent."In 2014, Brookstone filed for bankruptcy and was sold to a Chinese consortium for 6 million.
