A White House official has spent about three months in the hospital recovering from severe complications following a COVID-19 diagnosis, including the amputation of his right foot and lower leg, according to multiple sources.Crede Bailey is the director of the White House security office and contracted COVID-19 in September. He was reportedly hospitalized shortly before the September 26 event at the White House officially nominating Justice Amy Coney Barrett, according to The Hill.A friend told Bloomberg Bailey’s family asked the White House not to publicize his condition, and President Donald Trump has not acknowledged Bailey’s illness.Bailey’s friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for the White House official’s and his family’s “medical and healing expenses necessary as a result of Crede's COVID-19 illness and the life-altering results.”In an update posted on December 7, the fundraiser’s organizer, Dawn McCrobie posted a big update on Bailey’s condition.“Crede has recently been released from the ICU and is now at a full-time rehabilitation center where he is focused on gaining strength and learning to live a new normal. Crede beat COVID-19 but it came at a significant cost: his big toe on his left foot as well as his right foot and lower leg had to be amputated,” the update reads.McCrobie said Bailey will be fitted for a prosthetic leg in the next few months. The fundraiser has gotten more than the ,000 in donations they were originally seeking. In her updates, McCrobie says the money will be used not only for medical bills, but also to help renovate Bailey’s home to be more accessible for a wheelchair.Bailey oversaw the security office, which handles credentialing for access to the White House and works with the Secret Service on security measures. 1804

Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) have recovered two nude photographs of a woman taken by Metro Nashville Police Sergeant Rob Forrest while he was being paid by taxpayers to protect Nashville Mayor Megan Barry. That detail is contained in a new search warrant filed Wednesday, seeking permission from a judge to search Barry's mobile phone.TBI agent Joshua Savely said in his affidavit that the face of the woman is not visible in the photographs recovered from Metro Police emails. Those photos appear to have been taken on Forrest's city-issued iPhone, then deleted, the affidavit says.Still, Savley wrote that a separate picture recovered from Forrest's phone shows Barry wearing clothing similar to items visible in one of the nude photos. Barry can also be seen carrying a purse similar to one that appears in another nude picture."Your affiant believes that probable cause exists to show that Rob Forrest used a department issued iPhone 6s Plus while on duty," Savley wrote."It will also show that on May 15, 2017, and on October 18, 2017, he used this phone to photograph a nude or partially nude female. It will also show that Rob Forrest's timecards report that he was working while these photographs were taken."Your affiant believes probable cause exists to show that Rob Forrest was indeed not working at the time [those photographs] were taken but was rather participating in the affair with Megan Barry at these time."Forrest submitted his retirement to the Metro Nashville Police Department on Jan. 31, the same say that Barry admitted that she and Forrest had had an affair.  Search Warrant Affidavits (PDF) Search Warrant Affidavits (Text) 1718

After a bad night’s sleep, most people reach for a large mug of black coffee. Researchers say that’s probably not a good idea.Researchers at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom looked at the impact of having a bad night’s sleep and morning coffee. They found a cup of coffee on an empty stomach could impair control of blood sugar levels. Some good news, the scientists, writing in the British Journal of Nutrition, say that one night of poor sleep has a limited impact on a person’s metabolism when compared to a normal night sleep. However, drinking coffee first thing can have a negative effect on glucose metabolism by around 50 percent, researchers found.“We know that nearly half of us will wake in the morning and, before doing anything else, drink coffee – intuitively the more tired we feel, the stronger the coffee,” said Professor James Betts, Co-Director of the Centre for Nutrition, Exercise and Metabolism at the University of Bath who oversaw the work.Study participants underwent tests where they had either normal or disrupted nights sleep, followed by coffee or a glucose drink representing the calories in an average carbohydrate breakfast about an hour after they woke up.Then their glucose and insulin levels were taken.“Put simply, our blood sugar control is impaired when the first thing our bodies come into contact with is coffee especially after a night of disrupted sleep. We might improve this by eating first and then drinking coffee later if we feel we still need it. Knowing this can have important health benefits for us all,” Betts said.Keeping blood sugar levels within a healthy range can reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease and other diseases. 1701

ALPINE, Calif., (KGTV) -- Some residents in Alpine are ramping up their yard work after Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a State of Emergency for the Calfornia's most wildfire-prone areas. Alpine residents have a name for yard work. "It's a necessary evil. We have to clear it out," Jonathan Hesse said. 10News met Hesse as he and his son Ben were raking brush and chainsawing a dead tree on their front yard. "The drought, they [the trees] couldn't handle it anymore. So they died," Hesse said, pointing at the row of what used to be lush trees. He said the time had come to chop them down because he was sure they would ignite his entire 2.5-acre property. In the last two decades, the Hesse's have had three close calls. Their last evacuation was the 2018 West Fire. Luckily, they survived, as did their home. But they are not taking chances. "This year, there's a lot of weeds, and that's going to be tough to keep up with," Hesse said. Luckily, he has a helpful son and a sturdy tractor to help with the clean-up process. They will eventually put their large pile of dead logs and branches through a wood chipper to make mulch. Thanks to the work they did today, the flammability of their home is much lower than it was yesterday. "That's one thing we want to do. We want to make sure it doesn't get out of control," Hesse said. This week, CalFire-San Diego posted a video to remind residents to clear up brush and create defensible space. For more information, click here. 1487
