(KGTV) – A head-on collision at a Vista intersection left one driver dead and sent three others to the hospital, San Diego County sheriff’s officials said.The collision involving two vehicles happened just before 11 p.m. Thursday on West Vista Way at Copper Avenue.According to sheriff’s officials, a black Infiniti sedan was traveling westbound on West Vista Way when it collided head-on into a blue Chevrolet hatchback that was traveling eastbound on West Vista Way.The Chevrolet’s 51-year-old male driver died at the scene, while a passenger in the car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.The Infiniti’s 22-year-old female driver was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to officials. A passenger in the Infiniti suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.The cause of the crash is under investigation, but officials believe alcohol was a factor in the collision. 935

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House is expected to vote this week on a bill that would bring sweeping reform to the nation's drug policy, by removing marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act.Democratic leadership in the House is preparing for the vote on the bill, called the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act of 2019. The US House Judiciary Committee approved the measure last November.If made into law, the measure would open up business opportunities for legal marijuana nationwide.Still, many steps need to be taken to put the bill into law. If the measure passes the House, it could stall in the Republican-controlled Senate. Utah has worked on its medical marijuana program in the state since voters approved a proposition in 2018. VISTA (CNS) - A homeless man accused of killing a 77-year-old retiree during a burglary at the victim's Oceanside beach house plead not guilty Wednesday at the courthouse in Vista.Carey Lamont Reid Jr., 21, was arrested last Sunday in connection with the slaying of John Roth on Aug. 14.DNA evidence obtained from the crime scene led homicide detectives to identify Reid as the perpetrator, Oceanside Police spokesman Tom Bussey said. (CNS) - A 54-year-old Poway man accused of killing a young woman in Carlsbad 33 years ago pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of murder and rape.James Charles Kingery faces 33 years to life in state prison if convicted of all charges stemming from the killing of 26-year-old Julia Hernandez-Santiago, according to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.The victim's body was found on Oct. 10, 1987 on an ivy-covered embankment in the 2100 block of Alga Road, Carlsbad police spokesman Jodee Reyes said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of death was asphyxiation due to strangulation.While a suspect was not identified at the time of the killing, investigators said technological advances eventually led to Kingery's arrest.In March, San Diego County sheriff's deputies arrested a man on narcotics and weapons violations and took a DNA sample from him, as required by law based on his alleged offenses, Reyes said. Then in May, the sheriff's crime lab notified Carlsbad police that DNA samples from the 1987 murder case were a match for Kingery, who was arrested July 22.A suspected motive for the killing has not been disclosed."When a murder goes unsolved, not only is justice delayed, but families are left in turmoil with no closure," District Attorney Summer Stephan said in a statement.
