SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Neighbors are expressing their collective frustration after a vandal tagged a new community mural in South Park."Pretty awful and disrespectful. A lot of time, energy and love into this piece," said Heather Johnson.At 30th and Juniper Street and 30th Street, the community mural sponsored by several neighborhood businesses was targeted by a vandal over the weekend."I think it's disgusting to be honest with you," said Brian Padgett.The phrase "#Neighborhood" was spray-painted over, replaced with the phrase "ETHNIC CLEANSING." At the bottom of the mural, the phrase "#Hipster Pacifism" was tagged in purple."Disheartening, frustrating and an act of cowardice," added Ezekiel Morphis.Neighbors believe the spray-painted messages are sounding off against the gentrification of South Park. The tagged wall is a part of a building which will soon be home to a non-profit restaurant benefiting local schools. It was once home to long-time coffeehouse priced out of the area almost two years ago."It happens in every neighborhood. As a city grows, there is change. This is not the way to handle it," said Johnson.Some paint was quickly put on the tagging, but the creators of the mural — which cost about ,000 — say it may cost another ,000 to repair. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than 200 people in San Diego County are currently being monitored over novel coronavirus concerns, county health officials said Friday.The 204 people under county supervision include those deemed at risk of having been exposed to the virus due to close contact with confirmed cases or because of travel to China in the past 14 days, the county said.Those individuals are monitoring their health under the supervision of county health officials.RELATED: San Diego Board of Supervisors extends coronavirus emergenciesSo far, 338 people in all have been monitored by the county, with 134 people completing their time under supervision.Health officials say the CDC is conducting screening for those landing at one of 11 U.S. airports from China. From there, if a patient shows no symptoms they are self-quarantined at home for self-monitoring with public health supervision. San Diego has had two confirmed cases of coronavirus, or COVID-19. One patient has since recovered from the virus and been released. The second patient was still receiving care. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New advertisements against Measure B riled up supporters, who spoke out against the massive development Friday.The commercial states, "Measure B the Newland Sierra project, is a luxury development," something supporters vehemently deny."What I think is disingenuous is making people feel fearful of what can happen in this development," supporter Melinda Vasquez said.Friday, dozens gathered in Kearny Mesa to advocate for Newland Sierra's development project. She is a first generation American (her parents moved from Mexico) and a teacher. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was shot Sunday outside of a College Area smoke shop, according to police.It wasn't immediately clear what led to the shooting, but San Diego Police confirmed that a 20-year-old man had been shot just before 5:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of El Cajon Blvd., outside of Aztec Smoke & Vape Shop.The victim was hit in the leg and chest and taken to a nearby hospital, but their condition was not clear.The area was closed by police for the investigation.10News is monitoring this breaking news. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People looking to buy a new or used car may have to hurry if they want to take advantage of the Coronavirus Pandemic's best deals and discounts.Recent studies from the California New Car Dealers Association show that sales of new cars in San Diego were down by 18.6% in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same time of 2019. That's better than the state average of 21% but still worrisome for the industry.President Paul Dyke says his dealership saw sales drop in the 10-15% range at El Cajon Ford. But he says the company did a great job of offering deals to bring people into the lots, such as low-interest financing, long term payment plans, and lower prices."Zero percent is always something that gets people moving," says Dyke. "Now for the first time in Ford's history, doing it at 84 months on quite a few of the models really kept things going."The CNDCA says the Pandemic forced the industry to readjust its outlook for the year. They now predict new car sales to reach about 1.5 million in 2020, down from 2.1 million in 2019. If sales stay slow, it could be the worst year for new car sales since the Great Recession.Meanwhile, used cars are flooding the market as rental companies upgrade their fleet.Hertz recently filed for bankruptcy. The company iSeeCars.com did a study on their prices and found that Hertz was offering sales discounts in May that were 43% greater than the discounts they offered in April."There are still plenty of deals to be had," says Amada Lasik from iSeeCars.com. "That's especially true for cars that have been lingering on lots for a while, so we invite consumers to do as much research as they can."Manheim, a company that does used car auctions across the country, says used cars have been staying on lots for longer than usual. According to their data, almost 64% of used cars sold within 30 days back in February. By March, that number had dropped to 53%. The longer a car stays on the lot, the more likely a dealer will offer it at a lower price.Manheim also found that used car sales were down 34% in April compared to 2019, while wholesale used car prices dropped more than 11%.All that being said, experts believe these numbers will bounce back over the summer as restrictions ease.Dyke says his most significant concern for the industry is inventory. Since factories were closed for several months during the Pandemic, dealerships won't have as many cars to sell in July and August.Dyke says the companies will raise prices and eliminate the deals as demand increases while supply dwindles. 2574
