SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego tradition will return this holiday season, though not to the same stage we're used to seeing.The Old Globe's production of "Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" won't be taking the theater's stage this year, instead, coming to audiences on the radio and online. The free, audio-only production can be heard on 89.5 FM and can also be streamed on the KPBS website or mobile app, and on smart speakers on Nov. 26, Dec. 5, and Dec. 20 at 12 p.m.; and Dec. 24 at 6 p.m.Of course, fans of the show can expect their favorite songs, including "Santa for a Day," "You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," and "Welcome, Christmas (Fah Who Doraze)."And though live showings at the Old Globe are canceled until further notice due to the pandemic, another piece of holiday cheer will return outside of the theater. The 15th annual Globe Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place virtually on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. and can be viewed on the Globe's website or social media channels. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman is dead after a shooting in the Skyline area, Saturday afternoon. San Diego Police detectives said around 5:30 pm, two cars were traveling northbound on Meadowbrook Drive. Both drivers stopped at the red light at Skyline Drive. Then, the passengers got into an argument. "Our victim got out of the second vehicle and approached the front vehicle on the passenger side," Homicide Lt. Matt Dobbs said. "Witnesses heard a gunshot and saw the female stumble away."</p>VIDEO REPORT: Man pleads not guilty in Skyline road-rage slaying of young momResponding officers found the 27-year-old woman, later identified as Sylvanita Widman, suffering from a gunshot wound. The shooter drove off. “She was transported by paramedics to a local hospital," Lt. Dobbs said. "Unfortunately, she died at around 6:28 this evening.”Investigators said Widman's driver was cooperative. Meanwhile, the motive of the shooting remains unknown. Police describe the shooter as a Black man in his 20's, driving a black Mercedes Benz. He is considered armed and dangerous.Friends of Widman told 10News, she was a talented singer and dancer, and a loving mother of two young children.  1239

As they save for a down payment, they've been outbid time after time. "I've almost deleted all the real estate apps. It's frustrating. It feels like we're done," said Delgado.Or maybe not. Enter Freddie Mac and a just-announced boost for home buyers. The expanded Home Possible mortgage program allows buyers to roll up their sleeves and turn their sweat equity into their down payment. The program allows borrowers to buy materials and do work themselves on the property before it closes, turning the appraised value of the makeover costs into the down payment.  868

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego police officer was involved in a shooting outside a music venue in downtown San Diego just before 7 p.m. Saturday.San Diego Police Lt. Mike Holden said that a white man in his thirties was acting violently on top of a vehicle hood on the corner of W. Ash Street and India Street.The man was only wearing pants and did not have a shirt or shoes on and was standing on the hood of a car yelling at the driver, police said. A police officer tried to take the man into custody and used a Taser, which did not subdue him. Police said the man continued to act violently.The officer then fired one shot, which did not hit anybody."The officer continued to struggle with the suspect," said Lt. Mike Holden of the San Diego Police Department. "At one point during the struggle the officer feared for his life. The officer fired one round from his handgun, but missed the suspect."The suspect, Brent Zadina, 30, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for observation. Police do not believe Zadina was armed.The officer sustained minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital, Holden said. Police are investigating the incident near the Music Box. The roads were closed nearby for the investigation but have since reopened.This is a developing story. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A task force assembled by Governor Gavin Newsom wants to impose a statewide mandate requiring local governments to address homelessness, and hold jurisdictions that fail to make measurable progress accountable with lawsuits.The proposal by the 13-member Council of Regional Homeless Advisors would require an amendment to California’s constitution. If approved by voters, California would become the first state with such a mandate.“A legally-enforceable obligation will sharpen focus. It will enhance a bias towards action and it will elevate this on the list of priorities,” said San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, a member of the task force.Although the specifics are still under negotiation, the task force outlined an example scenario where cities and counties would have one year to reduce their homeless populations by “tens of thousands.”“These plans would include specific benchmarks and timelines that jurisdictions would have to meet for moving people into permanent housing through both services offered in interim interventions and creation of housing opportunities,” the Council said in its proposal letter.“It won’t be enough to buy your way through with putting up a number of shelters to make the public think you’re taking action,” Fletcher said. “You will actually have to find a way to tackle the underlying problems.”Supporters likened the proposal to California’s renewable energy mandate. It’s still unclear how much the housing mandate would cost.“I would not be supportive of the state coming down on cities like San Diego and saying you have to change the way you do business, change the way you operate, and not give us any money to do that,” said San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate. Cate said he would prefer to address homelessness with a system of incentives rather than mandates and punishments, but said he was reserving judgment on the plan until more details are released.The Council of Regional Homeless Advisors wants to put the issue before voters on the November ballot. To do that, the California Legislature would need to vote by June 25 to send the topic to the ballot. 2150
