O’FALLON, Mo. OTAY MESA (CNS) - A pedestrian died Thursday after being struck by a hit- and-run motorist near Brown Field Municipal Airport, authorities reported.The 21-year-old woman was in a crosswalk in the 8200 block of Otay Mesa Road when a westbound silver Nissan Altima struck her about 9:15 a.m., according to San Diego police.The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.Following the fatal impact, the motorist continued driving and fled the area to the west, Officer Tony Martinez said.The vehicle is described as a four-door, silver-colored Nissan Altima. OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A fire at an Oceanside home early this morning displaced four people, but no one was injured, fire officials said today.Around 11:30 p.m. Friday, dispatchers received a report of a fire at a home in the 4000 block of Marcella Street, which is just west of College Boulevard and south of Oceanside Boulevard, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.Crews arrived and initially believed the fire was contained to a sunroom that had been added onto the home in the backyard, officials said.However, firefighters found out the fire had actually engulfed the kitchen and spread to the attic.  The fire was out about 30 minutes after crews first arrived, officials said.A family of four adults was displaced and the American Red Cross helped with providing them shelter.A fire department investigator will look into the cause of the blaze, officials said. 888

OCEANSIDE (CNS) - Two cars overturned into an embankment off Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton Sunday, but the people inside both vehicles were able to escape without serious injuries.A silver car lost control and sideswiped another car on northbound I-5 past Las Pulgas Road shortly after 11 a.m., California Highway Patrol dispatchers were told.Several drivers pulled over to help, and the people inside both cars were able to get out before CHP officers and fire personnel got to the scene, according to a CHP incident log.At least one person was hurt, but the injuries were described as minor. 609

ORANGE, Calif. - As Amtrak prepares for the busiest travel period of the year, the company is adding railcars and requiring reservations for passengers. Due to increased crowds for holiday travel, Amtrak is encouraging passengers to plan ahead and book early. Reservations will be mandatory between Wednesday, Nov. 27 and Monday, Dec. 2.
