DENVER – What started out with a handful of bold activists seeking to spark a conversation about topless equality five years ago now brings over 1,000 people to the streets of downtown Denver.On Sunday, organizers of GoTopless Day expect to draw just as many people – if not more – to the 16th Street Mall, hoping to again “show that men and women can embrace topless equality while promoting respect and healthy boundaries.”Here’s everything you need to know about GoTopless Day 2018 in downtown Denver, taking place on Sunday, Aug. 26.It’s not just toplessness you’ll see this year Organizers said in the official Facebook event page that there will be live music as well as body painters. DENVER — A Denver dad who witnessed a serious crash involving a pedestrian on Leetsdale Drive Thursday night says he wants to know why two paramedics, in a South Adams County - Northglenn ambulance, ignored his requests to help a young boy injured in that crash."I was heading to Cherry Creek reservoir with my dog," said the witness, who asked to remain anonymous. "The two little boys, one must not have been much over the age of 8, made their way across Leetsdale, several yards west of the Quebec intersection."He said the boys were crossing from north to south and had made it to the island in the middle of the street, and then began walking in front of cars that were stopped at the light.They were almost on the other side, when an eastbound car began approaching in the right turn lane. The boys darted in front of the car. The younger one took the brunt of the impact."He flew 20 yards and lost both of his shoes," the witness said. "I couldn't believe it."The witness added that what happened next was even more unbelievable.He spotted an ambulance waiting at the stoplight around the corner."By the Grace of God, there was a paramedic sitting...in traffic," he told Denver7. The witness said he approached the ambulance and knocked on the window."I told them, 'he's on the road, you've got to go help him,'" he said.But there was no response."I remember thinking they weren't understanding me. There's no reaction. I said, 'you have to go help him,'" he said.The witness, who has a 1-year old son, said he was talking to his wife on the phone and she told him to record the ambulance, so he did.He shared cell phone video of the ambulance, which was in the far-right southbound lane inching its way up to the intersection.After a brief toot of the siren, the ambulance entered the intersection and proceeded southbound without stopping, while the injured boy lay in the street a few yards away."It's sad," the witness said. "It's something that shouldn't happen in the United States."He said he wants to see some accountability.Ambulance Service ReactionKMGH reached out to South Adams County Paramedics-Northglenn Ambulance, a nonprofit service based in Northglenn.Initially, a director said she'd look into the claims, and then called back and said it was under investigation, so she couldn't comment.She cautioned that there "are two sides to every story."When asked about the nonprofit's protocol when paramedics are made aware of an accident outside their normal "coverage" area, the director said she couldn't answer that question while the incident is under investigation.KMGH checked with other paramedic services in metro Denver.A couple of them said they have no formal policy, but would stop and render aid, until local authorities arrived.One spokeswoman said without being there, it's hard to know whether there was a patient in the back of that ambulance, or whether it was on its way to pick one up."If there was a patient inside, the paramedics may not have been able to divert attention from the patient in the ambulance," she said.Serious ConditionDenver Police are still investigating the accident which happened around 6 p.m.They say the young victim remains in serious condition, but is stable. 3330

(KGTV) - The California Thoroughbred Racing Board postponed a vote on the use of riding crops at their meeting Thursday.The board was scheduled to vote on the issue but decided to move it to the December meeting.Two different versions of the regulation have been proposed.One would allow jockeys to hold a crop during race, but would disqualify the horse if the jockey used the crop to whip the horse during a race.The second version broadens the acceptable use of the crop to include “tapping of the neck” and for use in directing the horse without contact, but would still not permit a jockey to raise the crop to forcefully whip a horse.Del Mar Thoroughbred Club CEO, Joe Harper, said he supports the phaseout of whips.“I’m hopeful we can get to a point where the whip is not used at all,” said Harper. “It’s a horrible visual.” 855

DETROIT — Investigators raided Perry Funeral Home in Detroit late Friday afternoon and have removed nearly 63 infant remains, according to Detroit Police. Officers found 36 fetuses in cardboard boxes and 27 more in freezers. The conditions of the fetuses are unknown.The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has revoked the funeral home's license and shut the facility down. 428

Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is rolling back another Obama-era regulation that was meant to protect students from abusive practices by for-profit schools and colleges.On Friday, DeVos said she plans to fully repeal a rule that targeted schools that failed to prepare students for "gainful employment."The regulation required for-profit colleges and certificate programs at non-profit colleges to publish information on how much student debt graduates took on and how much they were earning after leaving school. If the average debt-to-income ratio did not meet government standards, the school's federal funding would be revoked.The announcement comes?two weeks after DeVos said she would replace the "borrower defense" rule that aimed to help defrauded students seek debt relief.Together, the two rules were an important part of the Obama administration's crackdown on for-profit colleges like Corinthian and ITT Tech, which were accused of defrauding students and eventually shut down. Corinthian was fined million by the Department of Education for overstating job placement rates and was accused of preying on low-income people with high-interest loans. When ITT Tech abruptly shut down in 2016, it left 35,000 students without a degree and many of those who had completed their program found their degree was worthless because the program didn't have the correct accreditation.DeVos froze the two rules?more than a year ago so that they could be reviewed and to make sure they would actually help harmed students, she said at the time.In 2017, before DeVos was sworn into office, the Department of Education said that 800 programs serving hundreds of thousands of students failed the accountability standards because grads' loan payments were more than 30% of their discretionary income and more than 12% of their total earnings.About 98% of these programs were offered by for-profit colleges, the department said. One program offered by a non-profit school was a theater arts curriculum at Harvard that later suspended enrollment.On Friday, DeVos proposed a new rule that would require all schools — both for- and non-profit — to provide data on student outcomes."Our new approach will aid students across all sectors of higher education and improve accountability," DeVos said in a statement.But a big difference in the proposed rule is that it won't institute a new standard that schools have to meet in order to keep receiving federal funding. The public has time to comment on the proposal before a rule is finalized.Consumer groups and Democrats attacked DeVos' plan for putting the interests of for-profit colleges ahead of students."Her extreme proposal to rescind this rule is further proof that there is no line Secretary DeVos won't cross to pad the pockets of for-profit colleges — even leaving students and taxpayers to foot the bill," said Senator Patty Murray, a Democrat and ranking member of the education committee.Democrats have criticized DeVos before for hiring department officials with connections to the for-profit college industry.
