TAMPA, Fla. -- A commercial about child hunger inspired Kennedy McCormick to take action when she just 7 years old.¡°I felt really bad for the children, so I wanted to do something to help,¡± said McCormick, now 14.For her birthday that year, she wanted to collect food instead of getting presents.¡°So we had a party and that¡¯s exactly what happened. Everybody brought food,¡± said her father, Kelvin.Kennedy has carried on that tradition every year, teaming up with Feeding Tampa Bay to make sure the donations get to those in need.¡°The more I¡¯ve done it. The more donations I¡¯ve gotten over the years,¡± said Kennedy.This year with the pandemic, she held a virtual fundraiser, raising about ,000.All her hard work got noticed by General Mills and they surprised her with a donation like she¡¯s never seen before: two truckloads of Cheerios. That¡¯s 48,000 boxes.¡°I was extra surprised when I saw the truck drive by because I thought it was only going to be the cereal over there and then there was a truck. (AP) -- Sheriff's officials in Florida say a 24-year-old South Carolina man is accused of invading the home of a WWE star near Tampa.Phillip Thomas II was arrested Sunday after officials say he entered the home of wrestler Sonya Deville, setting off a security alarm.Hillsborough Sheriff's officials say the 26-year-old victim, real name Daria Berenato, spotted Thomas on the property after the alarm rang and called 911 as she fled with a guest in a car.Arriving deputies found Thomas at the home with a knife, plastic zip ties, duct tape and mace. He was arrested pending a Monday court hearing on armed kidnapping and other charges. 655

TEMECULA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Monday, new details emerged about a fight on the field. The student at the center of it all is from Chula Vista. Cell phone video shows people pushing and shoving each other on the field. The violent scene unfolding in the middle of a soccer tournament in Temecula. A stampede of hundreds of parents and children running from what they thought was an active shooter. Erik Saur shared video in the moments before he grabbed his 9-year-old daughter. You don¡¯t process gotta get out of there," Saur said. The incident happened Sunday at Galway Downs. A video captured the moment the chaos started. 10-year-old boys started fighting when spectators swarmed the field. One of the boys that was hurt was from the Albion Team in Chula Vista. In the midst of the chaos, a man who had a camouflage duffel bag caused hysteria. ¡°He rushes to the sideline and he pulls out the backpack and someone is telling him ¡®don¡¯t do it¡¯ they said must have a weapon.¡±The man was detained by deputies for a short time. Investigators say there was no weapon, but the fear was real. The father of the child injured says his son will be okay. Coaches and parents plan to meet later this evening to discuss safety measures moving forward. The 29th named tropical system of the Atlantic hurricane season formed on Monday, marking a new yearly record for the basin.Subtropical Storm Theta formed over the open waters of the eastern Atlantic Monday evening, packing top winds of 50 mph. The storm is far from any land, and does not pose any immediate threat to land.Theta marks the deepest jaunt down the Greek hurricane naming list. Theta is the seventh storm this season named after a letter in the Greek alphabet. The only other time the Greek alphabet has been used was in 2005.Theta is not the only storm churning in the Atlantic basin. Tropical Storm Eta is spinning in the Gulf of Mexico after striking the Florida Keys yesterday. The slow-moving system is expected to dump heavy rain over Florida over the next few days. Whether it comes ashore again is still in question.Eta previously struck Central America as a powerful Category 4 hurricane last week.The Atlantic hurricane season still has another three weeks to go, and it¡¯s not unheard of for a system to develop in December if conditions are favorable, like they have been for much of 2020. 1123

The banana phone is back.A startup that licenses the Nokia phone brand has unveiled a new version of the 8110, a curved mobile phone that was first released in 1996 and featured in "The Matrix."The phone, which is offered in banana yellow and black, will sell for €79 (). It comes loaded with a new version of the game Snake, Finnish startup HMD said in a statement."This is a return to the glory years of Nokia," said Ian Fogg, senior analyst at IHS Markit. "But it also includes all the new technology."The 8110 comes with 4G, and a handful of apps including Google Maps, Facebook and Twitter. But it doesn't have a flashy operating system and users won't be able to download other popular apps.Fogg said that basic -- or "feature" -- phones are appealing because they are reliable, and can run for a long time on a single charge. The 8110 goes 25 days in standby mode, for example.Nokia used to be the world's largest maker of mobile phones, but it struggled to adapt to the era of smartphones and compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung.Microsoft purchased the company's handset business in 2013, but later unwound the deal. Nokia now focuses on making technology for telecommunications networks.HMD, which has licensed the Nokia brand since 2016, sold over 70 million handsets in 2017, according to IHS.
