Walt Disney World is extending its parks hours ahead of Halloween weekend.Back on Sept. 8, the park reduced its hours because of a drop in attendance due to the coronavirus pandemic.Well, it looks like Disney has changed course and will stay open an hour longer in most parts of their park.According to the calendar on its website, Magic Kingdom will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.Until recently, it was closing at 8 p.m. on the weekends. Now, it'll remain open until 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in November, as well as on three Sundays: Nov. 8, 15, and 22, according to the calendar.Magic Kingdom will stay open until 9 p.m. throughout the week, beginning Nov. 9 up through Thanksgiving weekend.The calendar also showed that Epcot would close at 9 p.m. on Fridays and 10 p.m. on Saturdays. WASATCH COUNTY, Utah -- A Midway woman is thanking her local search and rescuers after they dedicated their own time to find a family heirloom at the bottom of Deer Creek Reservoir.“Here it is!” Lindsay Bowen said as she held up her left hand. “To have it on my finger again felt so good.”Staring at her wedding ring, Bowen is still in disbelief.“I was so shocked, I kind of had just counted it as a loss and, if anything, we were just grabbing at straws trying to find it,” Bowen continued.Rewind two weeks, Bowen and her family were playing on a floating obstacle course at Deer Creek Reservoir.“We were just out there playing and it slipped right off,” Bowen said. “I knew it just dropped, and it was probably 15 to 20 feet deep.”Losing her ring had turned into a real-life treasure hunt.“Someone’s going to find it and take it,” she said.But to Bowen, the ring wasn’t just rich in value, it was rich in sentiment.“I’ve had my ring for 18 years,” said Bowen. “It’s my grandmother’s diamond and my husband designed it, I realized it held all of my babies and I was just so sad it was gone, I didn’t realize how much I loved it.”After her husband made multiple failed attempts to retrieve the heirloom, Bowen turned to a Facebook community group.“If anyone has the equipment, if anyone can go down, I’ll pay you a hundred dollars.”Then, unlikely heroes with Wasatch County Search and Rescue’s dive team saw her post and answered her call for help.“They went out for two hours and dove on their own time. They’re volunteers, and they just dove and dove and they couldn’t find it,” Bowen explained.Still, they didn’t give up hope. Eight days, two dives, an underwater metal detector, and a half dozen search and rescue volunteers later, they found it.“Are you serious!?” Bowen's husband can be heard yelling in a cell phone video of the recovery.“Yeah, we got it!” a rescuer shouted back.The long lost ring was found using a golf ball and a metal detector. The divers dropped the ball in the general area where it was lost, then used the metal detector to find it.“I started crying,” Bowen said. “[The diver] came up and it was on his pinky finger and he was so excited!”Bowen said the divers would not accept her reward. Still, she believes everyone came away with something valuable that day.“They were just happy to help and I was just so happy to be in a community that takes care of each other like that,” Bowen said. “That memory for me, of people doing good and being recognized for good, I think that’s my favorite part.”Bowen said the divers continued to use the metal detector in the water, retrieving a number of Apple Watches and iPhones, which they were able to return to their rightful owners.This story was originally reported by Elle Thomas at KSTU. 2772

WASHINGTON (AP) — More police officers have died in the line of duty this year in the United States than in 2017, according to data released Thursday. Most were killed by gunfire, and vehicular accidents claimed nearly as many officers' lives.The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund said in a report that 144 federal, state and local officers have died so far in 2018. That figure represents roughly a 12 percent increase from the 129 who died in 2017.The majority of the officers who died were either shot — 52 this year, up from 46 in 2017 — or fatally injured in car or motorcycle crashes, which accounted for 50 deaths. Other fatalities involved heart attacks, strokes, drownings and cancer and other illnesses among those who responded to the 9/11 World Trade Center attack.Of the officers who were shot, eight were killed during investigative activity and six were killed while responding to calls of a domestic or public disturbance, according to the report. Two were shot while serving warrants, two died while handling or transporting prisoners and two others were inadvertently shot by other officers.Craig Floyd, the fund's chief executive officer, called the increase in deaths disappointing after a decline in 2017."Sadly this reminds us that public safety is a dangerous job and can come at a very steep price," Floyd said in a statement. "We must never take the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers for granted, and we must remember the families of the fallen who are left behind."Of the officers who died in traffic-related incidents, 32 were killed in crashes involving another vehicle and 14 were struck while outside their vehicle. An additional four were killed in a motorcycle accident.The officers who died in 2018 include a sheriff's deputy in Sacramento County, California, killed in a shootout at an auto parts store; a Greensboro, North Carolina, police officer killed in a car crash while responding to a call for a robbery; and a Greene County, Missouri, sheriff's deputy who drowned when his car was swept away by water.The states that experienced the highest number of officer fatalities were Texas, California, Florida and New York, where eight died. 2214

Chamberlin says she's lucky to be a grandmother to four."But then my son had an opportunity to move out of state, he took with him, against my will, three of my grandchildren!"She was scared to lose connection with her grandchildren, so she got creative.Chamberlin would send a box of homemade cookies with sides of frosting and sprinkles. Over Skype, she would decorate the cookies with her grandkids."It's so hard at Christmas time or their birthday to buy them a gift if you don't know them very well. COPS was canceled. Live PD was canceled,” McEnany said. "Lego halted sales of their Lego City Police Station.
