SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The city of Santee called on residents today to help it develop a brand to market the city to tourists, businesses and potential residents.Santee recently partnered with North Star Destination Strategies to develop a marketing brand for the city. To that end, the marketing agency launched an online survey for Santee residents to give feedback on the city's strengths, weaknesses and challenges. Responses to the survey are anonymous, according to North Star Destination Strategies."We have partnered with more than 250 communities across North American and I can't emphasize enough the importance of insights gleaned from community members," North Star Founder Don McEachern said.Residents can access the survey at the city's website and submit it electronically. The survey is also available in physical form at Santee City Hall. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The founder and former CEO of a San Diego startup pleaded guilty Wednesday to a federal wire fraud charge for stealing more than .5 million from his own company.Jeffrey Fildey, 56, of Las Vegas, created GoFormz Inc. -- which provides online mobile forms and reporting products -- and began illegally taking money from the company sometime around late 2015 and continued to do so through August 2017, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.U.S. Attorney Robert S. Brewer said, Fildey "abused a position of trust to brazenly steal company assets, treating GoFormz Inc. as his own private slush fund."Prosecutors say Fildey obtained loans -- supposedly for the company -- then kept the funds for himself, paid for personal expenditures on company credit cards, received cash advances for himself on company credit cards and took money directly from the company's bank account.A U.S. Attorney's Office statement announcing the plea cited examples that included a 6,250 loan he obtained for the company, which he immediately wired from the firm's bank account to his personal bank account. Tapioca Express will pay 2,500 due to the unidentified restaurant owner's conduct toward Filipina employees between the ages of 17 and 23, according to the EEOC, which reported the harassment involved "repeated and unwanted comments of a sexual nature and physical contact," which led some employees to quit their jobs. The EEOC did not specify how many employees were harassed, but alleged that a written complaint did not lead to any changes regarding the harassment. "We commend the young women for coming forward to shine a light on the harassment to which they were subjected," said Christopher Green, director of the EEOC's San Diego office. "Their strength may give courage to other young people or those in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community who may be suffering harassment or discrimination in the workplace to come forward as well."In addition to the settlement money, Tapioca Express will hire an "external monitor" to review sexual harassment policies and procedures and establish a complaint procedure for employees. That compares to 692 reported Monday, with 180 in the ICU. That number was 671 on Sunday, 636 on Saturday, and 580 last Wednesday and Thursday.The number of people with COVID-19 in area hospitals has nearly tripled from one month ago -- 262 were hospitalized on Oct. 31.
