SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people working on scaffolding on the side of a downtown high-rise were rescued Tuesday after their equipment became stuck.The two workers were stuck 42 stories in the air after their equipment failed just before 10 a.m., leaving their mobile scaffolding stuck, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.Fire crews climbed to the top floor 46 stories up and were lowered down to the trapped pair. Glass on the 43rd floor of the building was then removed and the workers were hoisted into the building. View this post on Instagram SD Fire-Rescue crews are on scene at a building under construction at 14th and Island. SDFD dispatchers received the request for assistance at about 9:50 Tuesday morning. Two construction workers were on a window washing lift when the lift stopped functioning and the workers were not able to move the lift. USAR 2, engines 2 and 4 and trucks 1 and 11 along with medic 10 responded. The technical rescue team went to the roof and set up the rope system. They lowered down to the construction crew outside the 42nd floor and were able to remove a window on the 43rd floor. The 43rd floor window served as the extraction point. The first construction worker was rescued at 10:52 and the second at 11:01 a.m. The firefighters are now in the process of retrieving their rescue equipment. No injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Wednesday, San Diegans who live in their cars rallied in Ocean Beach to press the city to allow living in vehicles, as residents in various neighborhoods pressure the city to ban the policy once again.Earlier this year, San Diego City Council members repealed its vehicle habitation ordinance after a federal judge found it unconstitutional which halted all enforcement.Then in March, Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced an effort to bring a ban back. The ordinance would prohibit residents from sleeping in their cars from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. within 500 feet of a school or house.Residents say reversing the ban leads to broken glass, bottles of urine, drug paraphanelia, and excrement on sidewalks in some areas. But supporters of the policy said Wednesday they don't park in front of homes or litter along roads.The city says they’ve received hundreds and hundreds of complaints about what people living in cars have done to their neighborhoods. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say officers made their second-largest meth bust along the southern border in history last week.On Oct. 9, officers stopped a driver at about 9:45 a.m. at the Otay Mesa commercial facility who was crossing with a tractor-trailer shipment manifested as medical supplies. The truck was referred to further inspection, where the truck was screened using an imaging system and canine officers.Officers detected irregularities in the rear of the trailer and say they found 1,816 packages comingled with medical supplies of spray bottles and pipette tools. CBP said those packages contained about 3,014 pounds of methamphetamine, 64 pounds of heroin, 29 pounds of fentanyl powder, and almost 37 pounds of fentanyl pills, worth an estimated .2 million.The meth seized in the vehicle stop is the second-largest meth bust in agency history, according to CBP."This massive seizure is testament of what law enforcement agencies can do when we combine forces – prevent over million worth of deadly drugs from entering our country; thus saving countless lives from addiction and overdose deaths," said DEA Special Agent in Charge John Callery. "DEA cherishes our great law enforcement partners in San Diego, especially those who work tirelessly to protect our nation’s borders. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Underused land owned by San Diego's Metropolitan Transit Service could help address the region's need for affordable housing — though not entirely.That's according to a new report by the think-tank Circulate San Diego, which suggests nearly 60 acres of MTS-owned land, including parking lots and structures, could better serve the community as new homes."Empty and underutilized parking lots are a stark and visible demonstration of public lands being underutilized.
