SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Traveler satisfaction stagnated year-over-year as airports struggle to keep customers happy, according to J.D. Power. According to the report, construction projects and passenger volumes are at least partly responsible for the trend. San Diego International ranked 13th out of 27 in the large airport category, with a score of 774 out of 1,000. To reach the conclusion, the report looked at six factors: Terminal facilities; airport accessibility; baggage claim; security check; check-in/baggage check and food, beverage and retail. “With major terminal construction projects now underway in Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and many other airports, it is becoming impossible for travelers not to experience some form of disruption,” said Michael Taylor, Travel Intelligence Lead at J.D. Power. “While these projects are absolutely necessary to address surging demand, they are currently causing passenger delays and confusion. This translates into a rushed passenger experience and less money spent on food, beverage and retail—and it’s slowing the progress of the airport satisfaction we’ve seen in the past several years.”Meanwhile J.D. Power says the experience of getting through security at the airport has improved by five points. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With the pandemic prompting San Diegans to wear facial coverings, and practice physical distancing and stringent hand hygiene, flu season's start has been slowed.According to the county's Influenza Watch report published Oct. 21, San Diego County has reported 10 flu cases to date this season, compared to 320 cases at this time last year. Last year's season totaled 20,711 flu cases.The county says no influenza-related deaths have been reported so far this season. The CDC says the flu season in the U.S. typically occurs in the fall and winter, with the season peaking in December and February.County health officials say health precautions due to the coronavirus and an increase in the rate of residents receiving flu vaccinations have kept flu numbers low so far."Influenza activity has been very low so far this season in San Diego County. This may in part be due to the social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing interventions instituted to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Seasonal influenza vaccinations are being recorded in the San Diego Immunization Registry at a higher rate than at this same point in any previous season, with 637,696 San Diegans immunized through week 42," the county's report said.Week 42 covers case totals up to the week ending Oct. 17.According to the county, 70% of this year's flu cases cover Influenza A, while 30% include Influenza B. 1445

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Veterinarians with the San Diego Humane Society say too many pets are packing on extra pounds.The shelter sees overweight pets every day and recently received a 26-pound cat named Angelo; his family could no longer care for him. "Even though a lot of people may perceive him to be cute or funny, for us it's alarming to see an animal this size," said Dr. Danielle Clem, Hospital Director for the San Diego Campus.Overweight pets like Angelo are at risk for health complications like diabetes and severe arthritis."I really am a firm believer that good pet care starts with what you put in their food dish - and it's as simple as that," said Dr. Clem.Hospital staff put Angelo on a strict diet and began to encourage exercise. But Dr. Clem warns that if your pet needs to lose weight, it should be done under veterinarian supervision. "Cats losing weight too rapidly can actually be very dangerous."While Angelo has already been adopted, SDHS officials invite people to meet other cats during adopt-a-shelter-cat month. 1045

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego native is back home after the Camp Fire forced him out of his school. Angel Gonzalez is a third-year student at Chico State University. Campus officials canceled class on Thursday when the fire broke out and then announced the campus would be closed for two weeks. The university is not currently threatened by the Camp Fire but the air quality is poor. Gonzalez says leaving the campus was chaotic and crowded with everyone trying to get out. He’s now worried about his professors, many who own properties in Paradise.Classes at Chico State are set to resume on November 26th, the Monday after Thanksgiving.   680

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Witnesses say a woman was driving at least 100 mph before she crashed into a power pole in the Oak Park area and died early Sunday morning.The crash happened in the 2000 block of 54th Street around 1:30 a.m.According to witnesses, the woman was traveling at approximately 100 mph when she struck a curb, skidded out of control and hit a power pole.The 33-year-old became pinned inside the vehicle after the crash. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to cut the woman out of the vehicle.The woman died at the scene due to her injuries. At this time, police say they don’t know whether or not drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. 672
