GENEVA, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Top legislators of China and France met here on Monday and reiterated their willingness to further expand cooperation in various areas and strengthen coordination in international affairs.Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, said his latest official goodwill visit to France was successful thanks to joint efforts by both China and France. It is in the interest of both countries and peoples to strengthen the bilateral ties and deepen cooperation in international and regional affairs, Wu said at the meeting with Accoyer.Bernard Accoyer, speaker of the French National Assembly, said Wu's visit to France is remarkable in Sino-French ties and is fruitful, which will play a constructive role in deepening substantial cooperation and boosting the friendship between the two peoples. France looks forward to take chance of Wu's visit to conduct closer coordination in international affairs and accelerate the development of Sino-French ties, he said.Wu paid an visit to France from July 7 to July 14 as a part of his three-nation Europe tour. He is here to attend the third World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.On the sideline of the conference, Wu also met with Klaus Schwab, executive chairman of the World Economic Forum, on Monday and discussed the upcoming Summer Davos Forum in China.

BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China on Tuesday urged courts across the country to accept scrutiny by the press and general public.The courts must constantly listen to the public so they can carry out their work in a better way, Shen Deyong, executive vice president of the SPC, told a national conference on the publicity work of courts.After hailing achievements of the courts in providing information to the public, Shen said some courts did not pay enough attention to public opinion."The public are paying more attention to court work, their expectations are growing. They want to know more, participate more and supervise more," he said.Shen urged courts to disclose information on major issues in a timely fashion, so as to avoid public suspicion and damage to judicial authority.The Supreme People's Court will train spokespeople and publicity officials of courts nationwide in the second half of the year.

BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- China's fiscal risk is controllable as it aims for a balanced economy, a senior finance official said Friday in a call for "growth-friendly" fiscal consolidation of the world economy."According to some indicators, the fiscal risk China is facing is controllable, and China's fiscal development retains sound momentum," said Vice Finance Minister Zhu Guangyao at a news briefing on the fourth Group of 20 (G20) summit.China's budget deficit accounted for 2.9 percent of GDP in 2009 and was expected to stand at 2.8 percent this year, said Zhu."Even facing healthy and sound momentum, the Chinese government attaches importance to balanced and stable economic development," said Zhu.Fiscal consolidation would be a major topic at the Toronto summit, and the G20 leaders would discuss how to maintain robust, sustainable and balanced economic growth, said Zhu.Some European Union (EU) member states have announced austerity plans to cut public deficits in a bid to restore investor confidence in their economies and in the euro, but the fiscal consolidation measures have drawn strong opposition.Zhu said the global economy was undergoing gradual recovery, but still facing some uncertainties, especially with the European debt crisis.

  

KHARTOUM, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Special Envoy to Darfur Liu Guijin on Sunday urged the parties of the Darfur conflict to work to find a peaceful solution for the conflict through the Doha negotiating forum."The only way to resolve the problem in Darfur is through peaceful negotiations, through the political process, any boycotting of the political process, any choice of remaining outside the political process is not acceptable, is not conducive to peace and to the resolution of the problem," Liu Guijin told reporters after meeting with Ghazi Salahuddin, Sudan government official in charge of the Darfur file, Sunday in Khartoum.The Chinese official stressed China's support to Doha peace talks, saying that "we have been consistent in supporting the political process in Doha. All parties should get on board."He further urged the international community to support Sudan to find a peaceful settlement to the Darfur issue, saying that "it is time for the international community to work closely together with the government of Sudan, with all the relevant stakeholders, to have a peaceful resolution."Liu, meanwhile, reiterated China's supportive stance for peace in Sudan, in both its north and south, saying that "we will continue to be the development partner of Sudan, all of Sudan, not only in the north, but also including the south. We are ready to work with all the stakeholders to peace, not only in Darfur, but also to the southern Sudan issue."The Chinese official said his visit to Sudan tended to exchange ideas with the Sudanese authorities and discuss the future strategies regarding south Sudan referendum.
