SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Pacific Beach business owner is responding to a viral video of a worker's violent confrontation with a homeless man this week.The owner of B-Mo's Sandwich Shop, identified as Marc L., posted a message to Facebook in response to the video, which shows an employee push a table into a shirtless man's head, then begin throwing his belongings into the street.The note read in part that while he is apologetic for the events that occurred, "this person has been rather malicious to our community for over a year now."RELATED: Violent confrontation between Pacific Beach worker, homeless man caught on tape"Let me reiterate, this is no excuse for the choices and actions of our employee. However, that being said, I would ask for everyone to understand that we love this business and the Pacific Beach community immensely ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Carlos resident is sharing video of what he believes is a large mountain lion running across a busy street in his neighborhood.Mike Johanning was driving home from dinner at 11 p.m. when his dash cam captured the animal.The incident happened on Navajo Road near the Mission Trails Golf Course and Cowles Mountain trailhead.The possible mountain lion was as wide as his car, Johanning told 10News.Johanning has lived or worked in San Carlos since 1997 and said he had never seen a mountain lion in the area.Wildlife Research Institute researcher David Bittner saw Johanning’s video and confirmed it was likely a mountain lion.  Bittner is leading a project that has set up cameras throughout the county looking for mountain lions.  He says a sighting in San Carlos is rare.Bittner says he may be a juvenile striking out on his own hunting for deer. "Usually they go back home after a few days," said Bittner.  966

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A large group of city leaders, hotel workers, homeless service providers and community members gathered Thursday outside the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter to show support for the Yes! For a Better San Diego initative.The initiative, which will appear on the March ballot, has bipartisan support and seeks to address the city's homelessness issues, street repairs and job creation with a hotel tax increase. Supporters say the initiative would generate 7 million in the first five years. According to San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, the highest hotel tax increase would be in downtown San Diego at 3.2 percent, with 2.25 percent for hotels on the outskirts of downtown and 1.25 percent for hotels on the outskirts of the city.San Diego's current transient occupancy tax is 10.5 percent."It's not only about the thousands of jobs that you just heard, the infrastructure and the roads, the most important issue that is facing our city the issue of homelessness and for the first time a dedicated funding stream," said Faulconer.He said the initiative would also expand the San Diego Convention Center and create 7,000 new jobs.Some tourists tell 10News raising the hotel tax could backfire and make some visitors simply stop coming to San Diego on vacation."It probably means I'll choose somewhere else next time I travel, somewhere more affordable for me," said one tourist who did not want to be identified."I definitely think it's important to deal with the homeless population and expand your economy, but I don't think that should happen with your tourism dollars. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new grant for City Heights businesses in San Diego is aimed at helping small businesses get back on their feet after pandemic impacts.The City Heights Business Relief Fund has so far grown to 0,000 and that money will go to businesses in the area. Each business can get up to ,000. To be eligible, the business must be located within City Heights. The priority is on businesses owned by women and/or minorities that are already established in the community who have not received other relief funds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was taken into custody after he was seen damaging the lobby at the San Diego Police Department’s downtown headquarters.At around 5:30 a.m. Friday, an SDPD officer heard noise coming from inside of the building on 1401 Broadway and saw a man trashing the lobby.Other officers responded, and as they surrounded the lobby from the outside and inside, the man used a large stick or bat to smash glass doors.After some glass broke, officers converged and ordered him to drop the object.Officers deployed less-lethal rounds towards the man and struck him. Once he was on the ground, officers arrested him.Police are reviewing surveillance footage to determine where the man came from and how he ended up inside the building. 751
