SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local father is recovering from stab wounds after getting attacked by an intruder in his home. The man's 20-year-old son shot and killed that intruder according to San Diego Police. It happened just before 6:30 Tuesday morning at a home in the 6300 block of Lake Shore Drive in San Carlos. Neighbors heard the violence. "I heard the gunshots, it was like three or four gunshots, then screams for help immediately after," said Denise Rolla. When police got to the home, they found the suspect dead in the pool and the 54-year-old homeowner with stab wounds to the upper body. Police say the homeowner's son shot and killed the intruder, who stumbled out the back and landed in the pool. "I heard what turned out to be the suspect fall into the pool and then a couple minutes later, you could see the blood start to spread out through the pool," said Andrew Grogg, who lives right next door. There are walking paths and Mission Trails Golf Course is located behind the homes which are just southwest of Jackson Drive. Neighbors say they don't have a problem with transients in the area, but police say so far, it appears the 38-year-old suspect is homeless. His name hasn't been released. The family owns a tire shop in La Mesa. They are well known and liked in the community. "They're local business owners in the community. They're great neighbors. They're kind, they're nice," said Grogg. Police say so far, the attack appears to be random. 1472

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man was arrested Thursday after attacking police with railroad spikes and rocks in a Barrio Logan train yard, police said.San Diego Police were called to the BNSF Railway Yard along Harbor Drive around 10 a.m. to reports of a trespasser. Officers arrived to find a man who had armed himself with a stick and railroad spikes, police said.The suspect reportedly threw the spike at officers and fled under a rail car, refusing to come out. The man also threatened to kill a police K-9 on scene, SDPD added.Police created "decision making space" and tried to talk the suspect into surrendering. After those efforts failed, officers used shotgun beanbags, pepper balls, and eventually a K-9 officer to get the man to surrender. He was pulled from under the railcar and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries, including dog bites, police confirmed.No officers were injured during the event. 927

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man who was convicted of robbing a Chula Vista bank and fleeing the scene on a Lime scooter was sentenced on Monday to nearly five years in prison.Mario Daniel Haro, a 32-year-old United States citizen who lived in Rosarito, Mexico, was sentenced to 57 months in prison and must pay restitution for robbing the Chase Bank at 2121 Olympic Parkway in October 2019.In February, Haro admitted to entering the bank, telling a bank teller he had a gun, and handing the teller a threatening note, reading “I have a GUN! Give me all money. NO INK Packages."The teller complied with Haro's demands, officials said, and gave him about ,000. Haro then fled the scene on a Lime electric scooter.“Unfortunately this defendant failed to take advantage of his second chance and committed an additional violent crime,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “As this case demonstrates, individuals who reoffend will be investigated, arrested and convicted and usually the sentence will be longer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A proposal to create a police oversight commission in San Diego took a step forward Tuesday.The San Diego City Council voted unanimously to begin meeting with the San Diego Police Officers Association, a key legal step along the path to the November ballot.A group called Women Occupy San Diego has been pushing for years to change the city's current Community Review Board on Police Practices, which a 2018 Grand Jury report concluded lacked oversight. That Grand Jury noted the community review board does not have subpoena power and that San Diego Police personnel can sit in on what are supposed to be closed-door deliberations."It's not independent of the mayor, it does not have its own investigative powers," Attorney Genevieve Jones-Wright said at a rally outside City Hall before the Tuesday vote. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego elementary school teacher was arrested this week and accused of distributing child pornography.Authorities arrested 59-year-old David Weaks, a fifth-grade teacher at Rosa Parks Elementary School in City Heights, Thursday and charged with distributing child pornography of young girls, including a toddler, according to a complaint filed by the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California.According to documents, a U.S. Department of Homeland Security special agent was able to download two child pornography videos of young females from Weaks computer through peer-to-peer software.The IP address associated with the download was tracked to a residence in San Diego and a subscriber with the last name of Weaks, the complaint says.Authorities say a search of Weaks' residence and his computer revealed numerous files featuring child pornography.The complaint said Weaks admitted to obtaining and distributing child pornography through the file-sharing software over the internet. He also admitted to possessing similar materials on an external hard drive.Weaks is scheduled for a detention hearing on April 24. The government has requested he be held without bond on the grounds that he "is a danger to the community and a flight risk."He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and 0,000 fine if convicted. 1421
