IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) -- A local woman has a warning about a man she says is a real charmer with a hidden agenda.Elizabeth, 23, says the man is a good-looking guy in his late 20s who was a Facebook friend for two years. They had mutual friends in common but had never met.He messaged her recently, asking her out to a sushi lunch. She agreed, but during the drive, she says he fidgeted with his blinkers and asked her to exit the SUV to make sure they were working. She agreed, and that's when he took off, with her purse, wallet, and sunglasses. When she posted his photo on Facebook, she says she got a flood of responses: dozens of other women with similar stories of theft."One woman said, 'He told me he had a gift for me in the trunk, and as soon as I got out, he drove off with my purse and several hundred dollars,'" Elizabeth recalls. She says none of the women called police because the man told them he had friends in a cartel. She's hoping some of them will now come forward to stop the thief. "He's not going to stop," Elizabeth said. "He's going to keep doing this and preying on innocent women."If you have any information, please call San Diego Police at (619) 531-2000. 1235

HOUSTON, Texas — Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has weighed into the controversy surrounding the film "Cuties" and has formally asked that the Department of Justice investigate whether Netflix violated federal child pornography laws by putting the film on its platform."Cuties" is a French film that follows the story of an 11-year-old Senegalese immigrant in France who rebels against her family's Muslim traditions and joins a free-spirited dance crew. The film won an award for best directing at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. The film reportedly does feature young girls in the crew performing indelicate dance moves. According to the director, the film is meant to spark discussion about how social media pressures girls as they come of age.Tthe film faced controversy when Netflix released a promotional photo that featured young girls in provocative dance poses in August. Netflix quickly removed the artwork and apologized, but the poster sparked an online movement to #CancelNetflix. The film debuted on Netflix last week, further fanning the flames of the controversy.According to The New York Times, the trend was pushed with the help of supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory — a baseless conspiracy that claims President Donald Trump is fighting the "deep state" and a secret powerful cabal of pedophiles and cannibals. In the letter to Attorney General Bill Barr, Cruz wrote that the film "routinely fetishizes and sexualizes" pre-adolescent girls."These scenes in and of themselves are harmful. And it is likely that the filming of this movie created even more explicit and abusive scenes, and that pedophiles across the world in the future will manipulate and imitate this film in abusive ways," Cruz wrote."'Cuties' is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children," a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement to Variety. "It's an award-winning film and a powerful story about the pressure young girls face on social media and from society more generally growing up — and we'd encourage anyone who cares about these important issues to watch the movie."This story was originally published by KXXV in Waco, Texas. 2152
In a security policy that has been implemented in many stadiums and arenas around the country, large bags will soon be banned inside Cinemark's movie theaters, the company has announced. The ban will go into effect on Thursday at all of its theaters. Cinemark is the parent company of chains such as Rave Motion Pictures, Century Theatres, CineArts and Tinseltown. Bags larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches will not be permitted. Exceptions may be made for medical equipment and diaper bags. Cinemark said there will not be anywhere to check bags. The chain also said that the company reserves the right to inspect all bags entering its theaters. A Century Theatre, which is owned by Cinemark, was the scene of a mass shooting in July 2012, when 12 were killed and 58 were wounded by a gunman. Survivors and families of the victims sued Cinemark claiming the company did not take adequate safety and security precaution. A US federal judge then threw out most of the claims against Cinemark in 2013. 1078
