SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A BB gun shooting spree has neighbors frightened Sunday after more than a dozen incidents across San Diego.At the corner of L Street and Sixth Avenue a woman was shot in the arm overnight, according to San Diego Police. She was walking in a small group and one of the men was an exhibitor at Comic Con, staying at the Omni Hotel, where they were headed before the shooting. That man, Sal Abbinanti, said "The girl I was with said a guy in a white car in the back seat, she heard a trigger sound and then she's like oh I think I just got shot which kinda got out attention and then we saw it was bruised and bleeding and it looked like a BB." "There's just so much security down here, so many San Diego police down here. I was surprised that this guy was dumb and brazen to do something like that," he said the hotel provided excellent care to his friend.Over in National City and Paradise Hills, at least a dozen cars were hit.Coronado Police say at least 11 businesses were hit.Downtown, police reported four more instances of people being shot at or hit by BB guns.The rash of crimes comes after 10News reported more than a dozen businesses and car windows busted by BBs in the past month:June 24th – Numerous vehicle windows were vandalized in the Point Loma, Ocean Beach and Mission Hills neighborhoods.July 1st and July 2nd - Three businesses in the Hillcrest neighborhood were vandalized.July 2nd - Two businesses in the Park West neighborhood were vandalized.July 2nd and July 3rd – Numerous vehicle windows were vandalized in the Clairemont neighborhood.July 6th - Three businesses and one vehicle were vandalized in the Midway area. A dark colored SUV is suspected in these cases.July 7th - Five businesses in the College area were vandalized.July 8th - One home in the Lake Murray neighborhood was vandalized.According to California law, negligent discharge of a BB gun resulting in injury could mean up to a year in jail.Police from the corresponding agencies are working on these cases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A group called "Pillars of the Community" is working to make sure people inside San Diego county jails are registered and able to vote. The non-profit based out of southeast San Diego hires inmates to work from the inside. Their efforts were impacted by the coronavirus pandemic this year but they're still hiring and trying to gather information to support their request to have polling places put inside the jails. 443

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A body washed ashore in Ocean Beach early Monday morning a few hours after a man was seen diving off the Ocean Beach Pier.At about 1 a.m., someone called 911 to report seeing a man jumping off the OB Pier into the ocean. A witness said the man was seen on his back being pulled out to sea.When authorities arrived, they found the man's belongings on the pier but could not locate him in the water. Lifeguards and Coast Guard personnel launched a search, but the man was nowhere to be found.Shortly after 4 a.m., authorities responded to the discovery of a body on the beach nearby. Authorities said it was too soon to determine if the body is that of the man who dove off the pier. 708

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- 33 San Diego County elementary schools were honored under the Distinguished Schools Program by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson Monday.The program, which returned this year after a three-year break, replaces the California Gold Ribbon Schools Program.Schools were eligible based on test scores, suspension rates and English learner progress.Among those listed: Veterans Elementary (Chula Vista Elementary District), Green Elementary (San Diego Unified School District), Garfield Elementary (San Diego Unified School District), Monterey Ridge Elementary (Poway Unified), Ocean View Hills (San Ysidro Elementary), and Solana Pacific Elementary.“These schools implement outstanding educational programs and practices that help California students realize their potential, and put them on the path to achieve their dreams,” Torlakson said.“Every day at these schools, teachers, administrators and classified employees, working with parents, apply their dedication, creativity, and talents toward providing a great education for all their students.”According to the California Department of Education website, California is using a multiple measures accountability system to identify eligible schools based on their performance and progress on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A fire broke out inside a shopping center in San Diego’s Talmadge neighborhood early Sunday morning. Crews say the blaze broke out inside an alteration shop around 1 a.m. Sunday at the corner of El Cajon Boulevard and Menlo Avenue. Owner Anne Chan says she was in shock after receiving a phone call hours after he store went up in flames. "My neighbor called me. I didn’t know what happened," says Chan.RELATED: Man dies after fiery South Bay crashFirefighters arrived on scene and quickly worked to extinguish the flames before they spread to nearby businesses. Chan says she open AA Fashion four years ago. This is her second alteration business. She tells 10News she owned a store in another location for 20 years, then retired. After taking a few years off she opened this store. "I came back to work because I love to sew." According to San Diego Fire-Rescue, no one was inside the business at the time of the fire.
