CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - The heart and soul of Chula Vista’s economy are the family businesses run by multiple generations. La Bella Pizza Garden is one such mom and pop shop.10News anchor Kimberly Hunt stopped by this 1950s pizza parlor, now run by Tony Raso.“I used to roll pizza and make meatballs in the 70s”, says Raso.Raso proudly displays photos of his mother and father, who opened the restaurant almost 60 years ago.“That's his delivery vehicle in the 50s. They enjoy our classic pizza. It's never changed," said Raso. “We make meatballs, spaghetti, lasagna. They've been cooking all day.”La Bella Pizza Garden now has three generations of family history. Raso’s son Michael works alongside his father. He will eventually take over the business. He says their customers are family too. “When I'm working up front, they come in and say my grandparents came here, we come here, our kids come here, You can't stop that, you've got to keep it going," said Michael Raso. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- A frightening scene for any family to witness was captured on video just before Valentine’s Day outside an East Chula Vista gas station. A clip posted to Facebook shows a man screaming racial obscenities at a female customer while the woman he’s with calmly pumps gas into their car.The incident reportedly happened at the Shell gas station at the Village Marketplace in the Eastlake neighborhood of Chula Vista at around 4 p.m., according to the victim.In a Facebook video post, the victim wrote that the man had approached her car and began shouting vulgarities then returned to his car. “No there is nothing done prior to this on my part. No there was nothing wrong that I knew of. No, there was no history," the victim wrote in the Facebook video post."No, I've never seen this couple before. No, there were no words exchanged between us, no eye contact, he just began to spew hateful commentary when he saw me get out to pump," the victim said.Sensing that something may happen, the victim used her cellphone to record the encounter, and that's when the man approached her again.The video shows a man with face and arm tattoos jumping out of the passenger seat of a light colored Nissan Versa hatchback. He approaches the victim’s car while flashing both middle fingers and screaming, “F*** n*****s!”The man then walked up to the victim’s vehicle and spit on the windshield.10News is not identifying the victim for her own protection.According to the victim, the couple drove away after the woman finished pumping gas.“I am beyond grateful that he, for some reason, changed his mind and did not spit on me or put his hands on me,” the victim said.The woman called Chula Vista Police about five hours after the confrontation at the gas station, according to Chula Vista Police Department Captain Phil Collum. Officers took information from the woman and followed up with her Friday to gather more information and documentation, Collum said. They will evaluate the evidence to see if it amounts to a criminal offense. Collum said police do not know the identity of the man seen in the video. “This is highly unusual,” said Collum. He had recommendations for anyone in a similar situation. “Do not engage, do not get involved, always take the high road,” Collum said.Anyone with any information is asked to call CVPD. 2350

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 16-year-old who reportedly made a social media threat against Bonita Vista High School was arrested Tuesday, police say. According to police, officials discovered that the juvenile was responsible for the second of two threats against the school. "The juvenile told police that he had seen the first threat online and decided to 'join-in' to further scare people. He said he thought it would be funny," police said. The teenager was arrested for making criminal threats and is expected to be released to his parents. I like some of you. Managers organize data.It sounds like a lot. But a group of Chula Vista students has it down to a science.Rancho Del Rey Middle School's Royal Robotics team is a "well-oiled machine," as they like to put it. And generally, some of them will be tournament champions so we do have to make our robot highly effective to combat them,"And the team has put in long hours to perfect their creation."They take the robot home with their parents' help and work on the weekends," teacher Kirk Braito said. "It's just an amazing amount of dedication."Thanks to the completeness of their design notebook, which houses all their data, the team hopes to grab the award for best design and have a championship banner to hang at Rancho Del Rey.But the team faces one last obstacle, getting to Kentucky."It is an enormous financial obligation that I'm trying desperately to make up because the funding is basically all us," Braito said.The team has set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses and has raised almost half of their goal. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Police officers and San Diego County Sheriff's deputies surrounded a South Bay home Friday in a SWAT standoff.San Diego Sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle near Orange Avenue and Interstate 805 in Chula Vista for a vehicle violation at about 12 p.m., according to SDSO. Deputies were working a multi-agency narcotics operation when the stop occurred.A passenger, identified as Fernando Salas, fled the vehicle shortly after the stop was initiated. Salas resisted deputies' attempted to detain him, SDSO said, resulting in minor injuries to one deputy.Salas fled into a home in the 1400 block of Camellia Court, prompting a standoff.The occupants of the home forced Salas to surrender and he was taken into custody by deputies on charges of resisting a deputy, according to SDSO. The driver of the stopped vehicle, identified as Daniel Garcia, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of metal knuckles.A person inside the home, identified as Angel Garcia, was also arrested for felony child endangerment for "his actions during the incident," according to SDSO.Several individuals ran from the home. Officers and deputies handcuffed as many as 12 people and placed them in U.S. Border Patrol or Sheriff's department vehicles. A child and dog were also removed from the home.Only Salas, Daniel Garcia, and Angel Garcia were arrested though, SDSO said.Sheriff's deputies and Chula Vista Police officers cleared the scene around 3 p.m. but didn't brief media on the situation before leaving. 1621
