SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego gyms are closing amid coronavirus, forcing residents to work out from home and sparking many tips on how to stay fit amid COVID-19. 24-Hour fitness, a popular San Diego gym, sent out a message Monday night noting that the gym would close March 16 until further notice. "As we all grapple with the enormous scale and impact of the coronavirus in the U.S., it reminds us of how precious life is and the importance of protecting our own health," CEO Tony Ueber said in a news release. "As we go through these challenging times, together, we will continue to explore meaningful ways to inspire and motivate you every day," Ueber said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Harbor Police are investigating an apparent drug overdose that sent four men to the hospital Thursday.Harbor Police said four men were found unresponsive on a charter boat docked at Fisherman’s Landing, off San Diego Bay, at around 9 a.m.ABC 10News learned investigators are looking into the possibility the men may have overdosed on drugs laced with fentanyl.The men were given Narcan and taken to the hospital. Narcan is typically used to aid someone suspected of overdosing on opioids, including heroin and prescription pain medications.There is no immediate word on their condition. 623

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents downtown are fighting against adding more low-income housing. They say it's only making the homeless problem worse. Merle Jones moved to this East Village high rise for the views and the lush lifestyle."It's categorized as a luxury apartment complex, and there's nothing really luxury about it at all right now," said Jones. Homeless people frequent the streets and sidewalks outside the property. "There was a knife fight that broke out and that was in the afternoon," said Jones. "My girlfriend she's not even comfortable walking outside alone so its an issue."In an effort to fight the deadly Hepatitis A outbreak,  more shelters and housing solutions are popping up downtown. One of them is a 16-story high rise for low-income families on 14th and Commercial Streets. "I don’t believe that's a good idea," said Jones. "I think they need to clean up the area because when you have that type of housing, it attracts attention from other areas."The high rise is one of five Father Joe's projects to add about 2,500 affordable housing units. One-third of them would be downtown. More than 500 people signed an online petition to move more housing solutions to other parts of the county. "I think it would be a nice distribution of the concentration of it so that way it's not just one area and one area's problem," said Jones. For now, he's stuck paying high rent for a view he's not happy with.  "I pay quite a bit, so I expect a certain level of lifestyle when I'm living here," said Jones. "When my lease is up, I do plan on moving towards the other end of downtown that’s a little safer and a lot cleaner."The building is set to open January 2021.  1830

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego City leaders are deciding where to spend money in the next fiscal year. Wednesday’s meeting was the first step in the budget for the year. 10News spoke with Barbara Bry just before the meeting. “All nine of us have submitted our budget priorities. What’s interesting is there’s a lot of consensus among all of us as to how much the city should be allocating its funding," Bry said.The latest 10News-Union-Tribune polls shows the top issue as homelessness. It’s one of the issues Bry says will receive major support in next yea’s budget. Wednesday, the budget committee reviewed and adopted a set of funding priorities for what will be a priority for funding in the next fiscal year. The committee’s list is alphabetical at this point, so the issues aren’t ranked by importance. The list does, however, reflect what our poll uncovered: climate action, homelessness, parks and recreation facilities, public safety and sidewalk and street repairs are all important issues. As for our poll, homelessness and affordable housing came out on top at 21 and 20 percent respectively. Close behind is road repairs and further down the line, climate change, the Convention Center and mass transit. 10News asked Bry how the process will proceed. “The council will then discuss the priorities as a whole, then Mayor in April, then budget hearings in May.” 1380
