One class has been helping people overcome the fear for decades, by debunking some of the concerns keeping you on the ground."The plane just dropped suddenly," one woman remembers."We actually went up in an airplane and found out afterwards we had gone up in a hurricane," another woman recalls."What really scares me is somebody blowing something up on purpose," one traveler says."I actually thought I was going to die, says another traveler."It's led to some odd routines. "I have to like touch all four sides of the door on the way in and you know with the seats," says one passenger. "And count to 100 during take off."It has almost led do some missed opportunities."I thought ok I'll just never fly again I'm old I don't care," one woman says. "But my daughter is going to college and I want to go with her."That's why these people have decided to not only share but face their fears in this Fear of Flying Clinic. Students learn it's not the fear that's the problem but the way they think about it. And once that changes so does the fear."It's not easy to do because you do have a whole set up of automatic beliefs that are causing you trouble," says one of the class instructors.That's why debunking students' biggest fears is so important."I have some very disappointing news for you all about turbulence," says commercial pilot Captain Mark Connell. "We don't care. It doesn't make much difference to us."As scary as it might feel, Captain Connell compares a plane hitting turbulence to a car hitting a pothole. He covers everything from turbulence and weather, to pilot training and preparedness."There's something helpful about that to think to yourself well he flies planes all the time and he's not scared so I probably shouldn't be scared either," says Mimi Kravetz.Kravetz has been scared of flying since she was 10."When there's turbulence on an airplane, my heart starts beating quicker. I feel really panicky. I can't focus. I can't sleep and I wanted to get out of that feeling," Kravetz says.Now she's ready to face her fear. "It'll be interesting on Monday to try and go in to see if I can replace my current set of thoughts with a set of new ones," Kravetz says.And get into the air with as much ease as the plane she's riding in.      2351

If you’ve been thinking about buying a car, experts say now is the time to shop. Dealers are offering more incentives than ever before to get drivers back on the road, and because of the coronavirus, you can stay home and find a good deal.“It’s the way the world is going now,” said recent car buyer, Stephanie Given. “Everything’s online.”Given is an ICU nurse working on the frontline of the pandemic, and in the midst of the health crisis, badly needed a new car.“We needed that second vehicle, the more reliable vehicle that we knew would be reliable in this time,” said Given.Her nearly 15-year-old ride was giving out, but, walking in to a dealership made Given anxious. “I have been under a little stress in my work life and personal life, and I was kind of dreading the stress of buying a car,” she said.So, she started her search online. “I found the car online through the Carmax app, and I was kind of let down when I saw the car was in Las Vegas, and it was just a couple seconds and they said, ‘We can ship it to you,’ and I said, ‘What? That’s amazing!’” said Given. Not only did she find the car she was looking for online, she did all the paperwork at home. “I kind of had a hybrid experience. I did my part online and then came to the dealership to pick up and take possession of the car,” she said.Given’s experience is now becoming the norm. Dealers are making it possible to do everything, from shopping to financing, from your couch. Some dealers, like Carmax, will even drop off the car at your door.“We want to take the scary four-hour dealership visit that you’d expect, and allow you to do as many things as you want at home,” said Corey Haire, the Vice President of sales at Carmax.“You can do everything from a virtual walk around where they’ll walk around the vehicle with a facetime phone call and take direction from the consumer as to what they want to look closer at,” said Karl Brauer, an Executive Publisher at Kelley Blue Book and Autotrader.Brauer believes this new way of doing business is here to stay. “I think it’s proving more efficient on both sides,” he said.Brauer said the car industry is expecting to see a big bounce back through the summer and fall. “People are moving into more confident, purchasing mindsets,” he said.According to Brauer, new car sales are down by about 31% compared to spring 2019, but used car sales haven’t taken such a hit—down only about 6%.“I think there are a lot of people are thinking maybe they want their own personal vehicle in lieu of public transportation, but these people aren’t buying a car because they’ve dreamed of one or have wanted one, this is purely for functional purposes,” said Brauer.So if you’re looking for a deal, Brauer said the first step is research, and then, look for combined offers.“We’ve seen deals for 0% financing, which were getting pretty rare recently. We’ve seen deals like deferred payments for three to four months, but we’ve hardly ever seen both of those at the same time,” said Brauer. Some dealers are offering longer term loans too. “If you’re looking at a new vehicle, and one of these 0% 72 or 84-month loans are available to you, that’s real money you’re saving over that kind of time,” he said.If you want the new car smell without the new car price, check out a 2019 model. “They were going to be hard to sell anyways with the 2020 cars coming out, but now they’re even harder to sell with all the incentives going on for the new cars,” he said.Brauer reminds buyers that, with any purchase, make sure you’re financially ready. For Given, she said the car and the price were just right, and the online process sweetened the deal.“I do think it was a little bit of retail therapy. HOUSTON - A social media influencer was found dead along the side of a road in Houston, a day after going missing, leaving many questions for friends and family. Alexis Sharkey’s friends are now telling media outlets she feared for her safety.Sharkey was found dead Saturday morning by Houston public works crews and was not wearing any clothes, according to local media. Investigators say she had no visible wounds, and the cause of death is pending an autopsy. They also say there was no attempt to hide the body along the road.The 26-year-old shared details of her life and fashion on Instagram, gaining a large following of more than 26,000 followers initially, it has grown to 40,000 following news of her disappearance. If you've been looking for a new kitchen appliance this year, locating certain models can be as tough as finding a new Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5.The appliance shortage that began in March shows no sign of letting up.Tommy Conougher is among the many frustrated shoppers. He needs more space in his refrigerator."This is one we've had since we built the house 17 years ago," he said.Like many families during this pandemic, he wants to stock up on frozen beef and chicken."We thought we would just invest in a freezer we would put in the garage, so we started to look."But finding a freezer was tougher than finding Nemo."We have been searching all summer long, nine months, for a freezer," Conougher told us in a Zoom interview from his kitchen."And even when the big box stores have their specials, they don't have them in stock."Many brands, price ranges affectedIt doesn't matter if you are looking for a freezer, refrigerator, range, oven, or washing machine.It also doesn't matter if your budget is 0 or ,000, or what brand you want (though American brands like Whirlpool and Maytag appear to be in better shape than European or Korean brands).You are going to find spot shortages just about everywhere, according to Ken Reiman, co-owner of an appliance distributor.He supplies builders and remodelers, who he says now have to delay finishing some projects due to ongoing shortages."When I check our vendor websites," he said, "they are just not available."He says the shortages that started when factories shut down for two months early in 2020 have not let up."For instance," Reiman explained, "they will give an estimated time of December 5, and December 6 comes around and they have moved to January."Why the shortage hasn't endedReiman says there are 3 reasons for the current shortages.Originally, it was factory shutdowns in March, April and May, along with delays getting appliances shipped from China during that time.The second reason is shortages of foreign-made parts, such as wiring harnesses and compressors, which forces U.S. factories to shut down their assembly lines until product arrives.The third reason is high demand, as people spend their vacation dollars this year on their kitchens instead, Reiman said.His suggestion: Be flexible on brand and model."We have products coming in," he said. "Our warehouses are more stuffed now than ever.
