The smell has finally started to fade inside Salazar's place, and they can begin renovations.But there's something else that's made Harvey--and losing his apartment-- that much tougher for Salazar."When I came in here, I just started crying, like I was hurt. This is my house, the place I shared with my mom."Salazar shared the cozy one bedroom with his mother up until her death just over a year ago. She had Leukemia, and for a while it had appeared she'd beaten it, thanks to Salazar; he was the bone marrow donor."And then the cancer came back."She died soon after."I mean, I never really lived on my own until this past past year. It was difficult the first couple of months, and it still is."It was so hard in fact that Salazar had to put most of what reminded him of her--family photographs on the walls and tables--and hide them on the top shelf of his closet. "There was just a lot of memories there, and I just felt depressed every time I saw them."But heading home to take stock in what stayed dry, Salazar takes down the boxes of photos--some of his mother's most cherished possessions, now his, too. Harvey, he says, is his turning point. He's quick to stress that he'll always be thinking about her, but no longer will he feel the need to dwell on his mother's death."This flood is actually--it's kind of a good thing because, you know, I can rebuild and make the apartment my place and my home," he said, welling up with emotion. "It's going to give me a chance to move forward and be able to come home and relax, instead of always thinking about my mom."And you can bet that after Salazar decides which photos to display on his walls once more, the boxes with the others will go back up onto the tallest shelf he can find."They're safe with me." 2944

(KGTV) — Days before South Bay locals head out to enjoy Fourth of July festivities, thousands of gallons of sewage flowed into the South Bay's coastline Tuesday.The runoff comes a week after millions of gallons of sewage flowed into Imperial Beach's coastline from the Tijuana River.The 858,000 gallons of untreated and treated sewage runoff came from Tijuana Tuesday, including flows from the ruptured Collector Poniente line, according to the U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC).RELATED: IB coastline closed due to 3.5 million gallons of Tijuana sewage runoffSun and Sea Festival dealing with sewage spill in Imperial BeachThe same line dumped about 3.5 million gallons of sewage into the Tijuana River last week, prompting a full closure of the Imperial Beach coastline.IBWC says the Mexican Utility (CESPT) has been working on the broken line. "It affects you know pulmonary health and diabetes it affects joint pain and problems."Dr. Weaver says the effects can be serious, and potentially deadly. A new study found improvements in mortality rates are slowing, obesity is the main cause, and many people look the other way."Only 20 to 30 percent of people who are obese had even talked to their doctor about their obesity," Dr. Weaver says. "And the problems that go along with being obese."Dr. Weaver says it is possible to be overweight and healthy, but your body mass index can let you know for sure. And once you've figured that out, beating obesity isn't just about cutting calories and working out. There's a new understanding that the biggest challenge, is revamping your lifestyle."It's an entire body change," Dr. Weaver says. "It's not just an eating habit it's changing your eating habits but it's changing how you perceive food. And everything that goes along with food."That's what Weiler has done. Along with bariatric surgery, she has lost more than 100 pounds. "It's an art."Korrey has been a professional auctioneer for more than 20 years, time he's spent solidifying his sound."There's not any two auctioneers that sound alike," said Korrey. "I can sit here and say countfive, 10, 15, 20, but when I put a chant to it, 'I bid five dollar bid now ten now fifteen fifteen twenty now twenty twenty thirty,' see I'm rolling my tongue and I'm adding some rhythm and I'm breathing."Leading auctions, sometimes for hours on end, has taught Korrey one important thing."We're not a machine," said Korrey. "If it's equipment breaks ... a starter down ... you put a new one in."When my voice goes down I have no wage, I'm done," he said.That's why Korrey spends so much time at the Colorado Voice Clinic, working with Kathe Perez to make sure his voice is okay."Let's start off with an easy feeling of breathing," Perez instructed Korrey. Then the two go through vocal exercises together. "Let's bring it down a key," Perez said. A camera goes down Korrey's throat and gives doctors a look at his vocal chords in action."The strobe exam is an artificial form of slow motion that lets us look at the actual vocal folds as they produce sound," said Dr. David Opperman with Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center. "We can pick up subtle abnormalities in the way the chords are moving, if there's a tension difference between the right and left side.  And it's really revolutionized what we do in the voice industry."Opperman said it's not just people like John who need to take care of their voice. Really it's anyone from teachers to customer service operators who does a lot of talking. He says staying germ-free, resting your voice for a time and rinsing your nose with salt water, can all help.From old-school voice training, to high-tech analysis, who knew it takes a combination of care you can't see from the stage, to keep Korrey's voice, and the auction, going strong. 2468

HUDSON, Ohio — A Hudson woman who hosted a large house party at a rental home in October was convicted in Municipal Court Tuesday for violating state health orders to prevent the spread of coronavirus.The woman was convicted of violations prohibited and criminal damaging, both second-degree misdemeanors, according to court records.On Oct. 10, the woman used a website to rent a home in the 6800 block of Windsor Road in Hudson, according to court records. More than 150 people attended the party, in excess of the number of people allowed by the mass gatherings order that limits groups to no more than 10 people.Attendees caused more than ,500 in damage to the property, according to court records.The Akron Beacon Journal reported that on the night of the party, police were called to the scene and multiple vehicles were towed throughout the night.
