A 60-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday morning in Tampa's Seminole Heights area, the fourth such death in what police say is a string of unsolved killings in that neighborhood within the past month."It is all in the probably 10-block, 15-block area," Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn told CNN sister network HLN on Tuesday. "And so we're just going to do our good police work and hopefully get a break."Ronald Felton was shot in the back while crossing the street just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, police said. He became the fourth victim in a string of killings that has vexed investigators who remain desperate for clues.A witness to the shooting provided a description of the suspect, Tampa police chief Brian Dugan said. "When I spoke to her, she said if our officer had been five seconds earlier, he would have been able to stop it," he said.Dugan described the suspect as a black male between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches with a thin build and a light complexion. He was wearing all black and a black baseball cap and armed with a large black pistol, police said. Police said they believe the suspect also lives in the same neighborhood as the shootings.Last month, police said that three seemingly random killings within 11 days in Seminole Heights were all linked. Benjamin Mitchell, 22, was shot and killed in front of his home October 9. Monica Hoffa, 32, was killed October 11. A city employee found her body two days afterward in a vacant parking lot half a mile from where Mitchell died.Anthony Naiboa, an autistic 20-year-old who had just graduated from high school, became the third victim when he accidentally got on the wrong bus and ended up in the neighborhood by mistake, police said. These three victims were all alone at the time of their deaths and were found within about a half-mile of each other.  1826

(KGTV) — The Holy Fire raged through brushy, drylands between Orange and Riverside Counties for the fifth day, as more than 20,000 remained evacuated. The fire has scorched 22,158 acres since Monday after it ignited in the Trabuco Canyon area of Cleveland National Forest. As of Saturday night, it was 36 percent contained.More than 1,500 firefighters, 86 water-dropping helicopters, and 14 fixed-wing aircraft have been fighting the blaze, as steep terrain and made it difficult for fire crews and engines to get close to flames.HOLY FIRE: 562

(KGTV) - Two prominent San Diego County leaders are in Washington, D.C., Wednesday to meet with President Trump about California’s sanctuary state laws.County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar and Escondido Mayor Sam Abed are among the 16 California leaders who visited the White House to discuss California’s role in the national immigration landscape with the president. In April, both Abed’s city and the County Board of Supervisors voted in favor of supporting the Trump administration’s lawsuit against California over its sanctuary policies."Each of you has bravely resisted California's deadly and unconstitutional sanctuary state laws," Trump told the group gathered in Washington, D.C.During the Wednesday round table, Trump thanked the leaders, saying they had “bravely resisted California’s deadly and unconstitutional sanctuary state laws.Trump claimed those laws are forcing "the release of illegal immigrant criminals, drug dealers, gang members and violent predators into your communities" and providing "safe harbor to some of the most vicious and violent offenders on earth."Trump also said during the meeting that opposition to the sanctuary state laws are growing, adding that "There's a revolution going on in California."Gaspar told the president, "If you look around this room; your tiny but might team; this is what Gov. Brown classifies as low-life politicians. Well, here we are."Abed said, "We are with you. We need to build that wall; we need to end the sanctuary state.""The fact that we have this unsecured border is putting all of us at risk because we know that terrorists are coming in," San Juan Capistrano City Councilwoman Pam Patterson said.Governor Jerry Brown responded on twitter saying Trump is “lying on immigration, lying about crime and lying about the laws of CA.” 1822

(KGTV) — Residents of East County's 50th Congressional District woke up to a new reality Monday: They no longer have representation in Congress. Congressman Duncan Hunter resigned after pleading guilty to a felony count of campaign fraud in December. "For two years now, we've had a member of Congress who didn't serve on any committees, and that's really where you help your district," said John Dadian, a political analyst who lives in Hunter's district. "Over a month now, we've had a Congressman who couldn't vote."RELATED: Who could take of the 50th District after Hunter's guilty pleaThose privileges will be restored to the person who ultimately replaces Hunter in the 50th District. A 10News-Union-Tribune scientific poll released Monday is shedding light on who may have the best chance of taking over the seat. The SurveyUSA poll shows Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar leading a crowded field with 26 percent of the vote. Three Republicans come next: Former Congressman Darrell Issa is in second at 21 percent, former City Councilman Carl DeMaio is at 20 percent, and State Sen. Brian Jones is in third with 12 percent. The margin of error for the question was 5.7 percent. RELATED: TIMELINE: Campaign spending probe against HunterThe top two vote-getters, regardless of party, advance from the March 3 primary to the November runoff. "This is a strongly Republican district with a good number of Democrats," said Thad Kousser, who chairs the political science department at UC San Diego. "Ammar Campa-Najjar looks very likely that he'll advance to November, but there are even more votes out there for Republicans."In 2018, Campa-Najjar narrowly lost to Hunter, who was indicted about three months before the election. Dadian said the poll is a snapshot in time, which could change quickly now that the holidays are over and the March primary is approaching. RELATED: Rep. Duncan Hunter to resign January 13"Now is when you will see the campaign's start spending real money, whether it be in direct mail, door hangers, TV, however they decide on their strategy, that's when you see these numbers move," he said. The poll surveyed 618 district residents registered to vote in California. Of those, 512 were likely voters. When it came to choosing a candidate to replace hunter, respondents said their top issues were character of the candidate, border security, and holding the president accountable. 2414
