(KGTV) - A pair of Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets from an El Cajon high school are turning heads for their achievements.It has been 19 years since a student from Grossmont High School was appointed to military service academy and the class of 2018 has two who received multiple appointments.John Flaherty and Nicholas Ghosn earned four appointments in total.Flaherty was nominated to West Point and the United States Merchant Marine Academy while Ghosn earned them to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy.“I was on top of the world,” said Flaherty describing the moment he got the call he was being appointed, “it was everything I dreamed of since I was four-years-old.”Flaherty is attending West Point and Ghosn will head to Annapolis at the end of their summer.Nicholas Ghosn says it was bittersweet to get the nod from the U.S. Navy.“All I ever wanted was to go to that college and join the ranks of the officer corps in the Navy, but I knew I was going to be away from my family and friends and home,” said Ghosn, “it’s going to be a long time before I get to see them so I was kind of sad because I knew this was it.”The 17-year-olds grew up a mile and a half from each other in Spring Valley and played sports together.“It’s unprecedented,” said Gunnery Master Sgt. Mark Brosnan on the two earning nearly million dollars in scholarship money from the schools.“I’ve never had cadets from public school get two appointments in the same year,” added Brosnan.They are teenagers, but they know they are on the precipice of something great.“They don’t let you into the Naval Academy or West Point if you eat tide pods,” laughed Ghosn, “Thats on the application.”The two head to their respective schools in late June, but plan to see each other at the Army-Navy game in December.  1855

Dozens fetuses and infant remains were discovered during Detroit police raids on two metro Detroit cemeteries on Wednesday as part of the state's investigation into Perry Funeral Home.According to police, the raids were prompted by a tip that there were between 100 and 125 fetuses from Perry Funeral Home being stored at the cemetery.Officers say they discovered 27 sets of infant and fetal remains that had improper or missing paperwork from Knollwood Cemetery in Canton, Michigan and 17 from Gethsemane Cemetery in Detroit.In October, officers found 36 fetuses in cardboard boxes and 27 more in freezers from inside Perry Funeral Home in Detroit. The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs revoked the funeral home's license and shut down the facility. Earlier that month, police also discovered 11 infant bodies in the ceiling of Cantrell Funeral Home, also in Detroit. 928

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- One person was taken to the hospital after an El Cajon home where a man was beaten to death with a pan in late 2018 was set on fire Thursday night. According to authorities, the fire started on the 1200 block of Naranca Avenue just after 7 p.m. Nine people were displaced by the fire. Heartland Fire says the flames were contained to one bedroom. EL CAJON, CA (KGTV) -- Before the COVID-19 pandemic, many low-income seniors would make weekly visits to their local clinic for treatment. But now times have changed, and so has the way they see their doctor. St. Paul's PACE in El Cajon has made a major adjustment in providing care for their elderly patients. They are now ofering what you might call a clinic on four wheels. "They used to come to the clinic for services, which some still do. But because of self isolation, and the fear of being in a crowded place, we have found a way to take care of them in a different manner," says St. Paul's PACE Medical Director Dr. Victor LeeAnd their new way of helping patients is what they are calling a roving clinic. It's basically the comforts of a doctors office, all inside a van"Our staff came up with some creative ways, and one of the ways was to create and convert a van into a clinic. So we can go to their homes to take care of them."The van is considered a safe place for patients who do not feel comfortable seeking treatment at home, or at the clinic."Doctors can examine them, and nurses can do their vital signs Whatever we can do in the clinic we try and replicate inside the van."There are currently close to 1,000 patients in the St. Paul's PACE program, many of whom Dr. Lee describes as frail with multiple medical problems. So the roving clinic has been a life saver. "They love it. We go to their place, we park outside their apartment, or even in a parking lot. It was gut-wrenching," said Erik Weichelt, President of the Fletcher Hills Little League."Just devastating for the league," said Weichelt's son Gage, 12, who plays in the league.Discovered on Saturday: a damaged fence, gate shoved open, and a locked batting cage that was broken into. A bevy of equipment was stolen, including a riding mower, a pitching machine, two custom hitting mats, two sets of catcher's gear, three catcher's mitts and hundreds of baseballs."To steal from the kids just doesn't make sense," said Weichelt.The total loss was about ,000."What a troubling year for this to happen," said Weichelt.So far this year, COVID-19 health orders have canceled the team's main fundraiser, along with limiting all activities to practices and no games.
